Transformer Prime ICS update will come on January 12, unlocked bootloader to follow, GPS is no good

by 21 comments

We’ve got some good news and some bad news for Asus Transformer Primer owners and future buyers. The company just provided an exact time frame for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its slate and it isn’t too far away either.

The ICS update rollout for the Transformer Prime should start on January 12, which is just 9 days away now. The company also said that it’s already working to release a tool that will enable you to unlock the Tegra 3-powered beast bootloader and get all those custom ROMs up and running. Read more »

Child actor appears in both iPhone 4S ad and Galaxy Tab 8.9 ad, coincidence?

by 101 comments

Acting is a competitive career to say the least and there are two ways to keep steady work coming in, become a principle character on a long running TV series/stage show or carve a niche for yourself in TV ads, something one young female actor appears to be doing in the tech world.

Look familiar?

Dubbed “Little Miss Tablet” by the Sydney Morning Herald, this little lady has managed to land a part in not just one popular gadget ad, but two. Read more »

RIM trying to get rid of 64GB BlackBerry PlayBook stock, now down to $299

by 17 comments

It seems RIM has been trying to get rid of their entire BlackBerry PlayBook stock and the emphasis today is on the 64GB version. Last week they had all models on promo prices ($199, $249 and $399 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB respectively). Today, in a surprising move, we find the three models all equally priced at $299. Obviously, it’s only the 64GB version that has its price cut down from the original fire sale in December.

The new sale ends on February 4th. Read more »

Upcoming 7-inch ASUS Android tablet leaks through press image

by 14 comments

ASUS has so far limited itself to making only 10-inch Android tablets but it seems it will be entering into the more compact tablet segment soon and it will probably do so with the device seen below.

What we have here is a 7-inch Android tablet from ASUS. Unlike the previous two tablets, this one has a portrait orientation that goes better with this screen size. Judging by the UI it’s not clear whether it is running Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich although I hope it will be the latter. Read more »

BlackBerry PlayBook goes out of stock in India following discount, RIM extends the offer by another week

by 18 comments

Looks like RIM is having a great start to the new year, at least in India. Following the massive price cut the Canadian company is having a hard time keeping the PlayBook in stock thanks to the great response from the customers.

As you may know, RIM announced a major price cut at the end of December that was to last till the end of the year. The prices for 16, 32 and 64GB models were slashed to $199, $249 and $399 respectively in the US but similar prices were found in other markets as well. After the price cut, and perhaps due to the limited nature of the sale, there was suddenly a large number of buyers for the tablet that was till now gathering dust on the shelves, with most of the retailers in India going out of stock within a day or two. In fact RIM sold over 12,000 units in the country in just four days after the sale was announced. Read more »

Sony drops Tablet S price to $399, throws in some freebies to go with it

by 34 comments

Last week we saw that Sony promised an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to all the Tablet S devices sometime this year. Seeing that may not be enough to entice buyers, they have now also dropped the price of the device by $100 across the board. The 16GB model now costs $399 and the 32GB model now costs $499.

But that’s not all. Sony is also throwing in some free stuff along with the price cut. Read more »

Here’s how you steal a truckload of BlackBerry Playbooks

by 51 comments

Times are just not good for RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook. First, they make the Canadian-based company lose quite a lot of money and now this.

A “well-orchestrated” heist, as the Police describes it, has taken place in Indiana. A semi-truck fully loaded with BlackBerry Playbook tablets has been stolen, while the driver was taking a refreshing break. Read more »

Acer Iconia Tab A700 images leak, said to have 1920×1200 display and Tegra 3 processor

by 37 comments

We had heard about the Acer Iconia Tab A700 before but this is the first time we’re seeing actual images of the device. Well, not of the actual device because what you see below is just a dummy but that’s basically what the A700 will look like when it will launch.

As we had heard before, the A700 will have a 1920 x 1200 resolution display, the highest on any tablet so far and will be powered by the same quad-core Tegra 3 processor ticking inside the ASUS Transformer Prime. Read more »

RIM treats buyers with an end of year sale, slashes PlayBook price down to $199

by 23 comments

These days it seems there are only two ways to sell a tablet. Either you have to be Apple and your tablet is called the iPad or you bring the price down so low that people just cannot resist buying them. The first strategy has worked out well for Apple and second is working well for Amazon and in the past for a short time for HP too.

RIM hasn’t had much success with their PlayBook so for the past few months they have constantly been offering great discounts to entice buyers. Today we have another one of those sales that will end along with the year 2011. Read more »

HTC Flyer price slashed in the UK, 16GB Wi-Fi version costs £200 while the 32GB 3G version goes for £249

by 16 comments

HTC’s first Android tablet – the Flyer – started off with a hefty price tag in the UK (£600!), but it has dropped significantly since then. The latest price cut brings it to a manageable £200.

The specs of the 7″ aluminum-clad tablet won’t impress anyone, but with Android 3.2 already rolling out, it’s not a bad piece of kit. Read more »

JXD S7100 combines 7-inch Android tablet and gaming console into one, sells for $139.99

by 33 comments

Ever wanted a 7-inch Android tablet that also had gaming keys on the side? Then JXD has just the thing for you. Although the company usually spends its time making PSP clones, this time they have gone ahead and made something original. Oh, wait. Never mind.

The device has a 7-inch display with a rather unimpressive 800 x 480 resolution. What is impressive, however, is the processor it runs on. The S7100 has the same dual-core Cortex A9 with Mali-400 GPU found under the hood of Samsung’s Galaxy S II. Read more »

Sony promises Ice Cream Sandwich update to Tablet S, fails to mention a release date

by 25 comments

Sony may not have had a lot of success in the tablet market but it is not going to abandon those who decided to spend their money on their Tablet S. And so to show that it will continue to support the device, Sony has just announced its intention to upgrade the tablet to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Unfortunately, Sony failed to mention any release date for the update, instead requesting its users to stay tuned. They did not say anything about the Tablet P either, which also runs Android Honeycomb at the moment. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is next to taste Ice Cream Sandwich unofficially

by 7 comments

The hacking community is on a roll. Over the past days and weeks we saw about a dozen Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for difference smartphones surface and we even got to play with one of them.

Rovio puts the ‘Play’ in PlayBook, brings Angry Birds to the tablet

by 11 comments

Other than the lack of a native email, calendar and contact app, the biggest item on the list of things you can’t do on a BlackBerry PlayBook is play Angry Birds. These days you can probably play Angry Birds on washing machines and microwave ovens as well, so its absence on the PlayBook was a bit disappointing.

However, if you’re one of the PlayBook owners or planning to buy one now that the prices have dropped so much, you don’t have to worry about missing out on all the bird flinging action because Rovio has just launched the entire Angry Birds series on the BlackBerry App World. Read more »
