Since the announcement of the Asus Transformer Prime, I’m sure many of you were wondering what Hasbro thinks about this. Well, the thinking seems to be over – Hasbro is taking Asus to court.

Update v6.2.1 pushed out to Kindle Fire – it installs silently and breaks root with SuperOneClick

The Amazon Kindle Fire gets listed in the same column as the rest of the Android tablets, but it’s worth remembering that it’s a highly customized version of Android and works differently than the rest. Take the silent auto-updates for example – the Fire will install the latest available firmware version 6.2.1 without asking, which will break root and make the tablet immune to SuperOneClick rooting.

The update does bring several goodies, the most valuable of which is probably the ability to remove items from the homescreen carousel. Read more »

Asus Transformer Prime preorders from Amazon now shipping

Asus delivered on their promise to make the Transformer Prime available on 19th December and users who placed a pre-order on Amazon.com got their shipping notifications over the past couple of days. The quad-core tablet is now on its way to its first US adopters and just as rumors, takers aren’t in short supply.

The other major retailer that will sell the Transformer Prime in the US, Best Buy, is also expected to start shipping the first orders this week, so units should arrive in time for Christmas. Read more »

Motorola Xoom gets unofficial Android 4.0.3 update, comes at the cost of camera functionality

It’s been just a day since Google released the Android 4.0.3 update and the folks over at xda-developers have managed to get it working on the original Motorola Xoom already.

Kindle Fire is Amazon’s bestselling product 11 weeks in a row, over a million Kindle devices sold a week for 21 days straight

The Kindle lineup has made Amazon proud – over a million Kindle devices are flying off their virtual shelves every week, three weeks in a row now. That includes the eInk readers, of course, but the droid tablet, the Kindle Fire, is doing very well too.

Amazon didn’t give any specific numbers, but said that the Kindle Fire was the bestselling product on all of Amazon for the 11 weeks during which it has been on sale. It’s also the most gifted and most wished for product on Amazon’s lists. Read more »

Apple introduces refurbished iPad 2, lets you save up to $100 compared to new units

As if the iPad 2 wasn’t well-priced already, here’s your chance to get one for an even lower price. Apple has started selling refurbished units from their online store and prices start at a very attractive $419 for the base 16GB Wi-Fi-only model, which usually sells for $499.

You will find a similar $80 discount on the 16GB 3G model and a $100 discount on the 32GB and 64GB models. You can even find the first generation 64GB 3G + Wi-Fi model for a $499, a whole $230 less than what it once used to sell for. Read more »

Samsung FINALLY allowed to sell the Galaxy Tab in Australia

After a long game of inflicting and lifting bans backwards and forwards, finally the Australian High Court has allowed Samsung to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country.

Still sitting on the fence regarding the purchase of the Asus Transformer Prime? Well, this latest piece of info might just be enough to make you reach for your wallet. We just got the NenaMark 2 results that the slate achieved and we can confirm that it has the graphics power to match its impressive CPU.

No one really doubted the CPU power of the Tegra 3 chipset that the Transformer Prime uses – after all it uses the same architecture as the current crop of top-shelf smart devices and is adds a couple of extra cores. However, some were suspecting that the GPU didn’t get a sufficient enough update and the Transformer Prime might struggle with graphics performance. Read more »

HP to release the second batch of $99 TouchPads on December 11

Unsurprisingly, the first HP TouchPad clearance sale enjoyed great interest, but the problem with it was that the limited stock only lasted for a few hours. Well, now HP is about to deliver a second batch of $99 TouchPad slates, so if you were left in the dry last time, now might be your chance to get a proper slate on the cheap

The second sale will take place on the HP eBay store and will begin at 6PM Central time on December 11 (that’s this Sunday). The 16GB version of the TouchPad will go for $99, while the 32GB model will cost $149, but there’s no saying how many units will be available. Read more »

Chinese court denies Apple lawsuit, forbids it to use the iPad name in China

Apple has just suffered a setback in China as the Intermediate People’s Court in Shenzhen rejected its lawsuit regarding the iPad naming rights. Apple was suing the local Proview Technology for infringing its iPad trademark, but the outcome wasn’t in its favor.

According to the court order, Apple cannot use the iPad name in China, which might turn out to be quite a big deal as the company is aiming for a rapid expansion in the Chinese market. To make matters worse, Proview Technology, which registered the iPad trademark in 2000, is now suing the Cupertino-based electronics giant, seeking 10 billion Chinese yuan ($1.5 billion) in compensation. Ever since we first laid our eyes on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, we’ve been mesmerized by its gorgeous SuperAMOLED Plus screen and have since been holding our breath to find out how much it’ll cost.

DingleBerry rooting tool now publicly available, your PlayBook finds it gross

If your fingers have been itching ever since you read that story about the PlayBook jailbreak, you’d be glad to know that the tool is now publicly available. It’s still in beta and it keeps the unfortunate naming, but if you dare DingleBerry is fully capable of giving you root access on your PlayBook.

Right now, DingleBerry only supports Windows, but the Mac version is in the works and it should be coming out soon. Read more »

Asus shows the Eee Pad Transformer Prime sleeve, the Smart covers smirk

Asus Taiwan just unveiled a pretty cool accessory for its yet-to-be-released Eee Pad Transformer Prime quad-core Android tablet. Quite strangely called “sleeve” the accessory is actually a cover for the Transformer Prime screen that easily transforms into a stand that can be used for watching video on the slate.

Yeap, it’s much the same deal as with the Apple iPad 2′s Smart covers, save for the slightly different folding pattern. And before you start pointing any fingers, don’t forget that the Smart covers aren’t exactly a new idea either. Read more »
