Undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated tablets of the season is the ASUS Transformer Prime. With its expected market release just around the corner (November 9), we already know almost everything there is know about the beast.

That certainly didn’t take long. The Samsung Galaxy Note only went on sale on Friday, but we already have a working root solution for it. There are some nice text and video tutorials as well, so if you aren’t too committed to your warranty you might even try it yourself.

The European version of the first Honeycomb tablet – the Motorola XOOM is on its way to receive the long-awaited Android 3.2 update. More specifically, the update is targeted at Wi-Fi-only XOOM units, that are running versions 6.4.20 and 6.4.20.3; they will be upgraded to 6.6.23.

And to make things even more limiting – only users in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK will receive the update notification message. Read more »

With all the hot features of the Samsung Galaxy Note you may have forgotten that the phoneblet comes with a nifty little accessory called the S Pen. Unfortunate choice of naming aside, the S Pen might turn out to be one of the hottest features of the Galaxy Note as it adds quite a lot of extra functionality.

Samsung has included cool gesture controls that you can use with the S Pen, like making a screenshot and making notes on top of it and launching the notepad from anywhere in the interface, opening contexts menus and whatnot. The fancy stylus seems to offer pretty good response time and allows for the kind of accuracy that lets you create some pretty impressive sketches right on the Note’s 5.3″ HD Super AMOLED screen. As the Samsung Galaxy Note launch nears (we’ll be covering the launch event on Thursday live) we got to see the first video ad of the upcoming device. The 30-second promo focuses on that huge HD Super AMOLED and all the benefits of the S Pen.

Samsung also flirts with the too-big-a-phone-or-too-small-a-tablet body of the Galaxy Note towards the end. We are yet to see if there’s enough demand for such a product, but the video is definitely worth checking out. Read more »

The iPad continues to be the undisputed tablet market leader as the Q3, analysts show. During the past three months 16.7 million slates were sold and the mind-blowing 66.6% of those were iPads.

The few dozens Android tablets shipped a total of 4.5 million in the third quarter, giving them a share of 26.9%. Now that may be enough to make Android the only other major player in the tablet game, but it’s actually a step back for the Google OS, compared to Q2. Read more »

Well, that didn’t take long. The next version of the Transformer teased us with its video just yesterday and now ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih unveiled the new Transformer model, called Transformer Prime.

Apple may have got an injunction against Samsung in Germany and Australia but they are still trying their best to win it in the US as well.

Got an HP TouchPad, do you? Well, you either got it before HP axed it or you snatched one up for $99 (lucky you!) – either way, there’s a good chance you want to lose the WebOS and move to a more popular OS, Android to be precise.

Ask yourself how much you want it – because you can get it right now, the CyanogenMod team just released an alpha of v7.1 that you can install. But it’s a really early version and the team themselves discourage you from installing it because you’ll encounter problems “ranging from the benign to the very serious”. Read more »

Continuing their legal assault on Samsung, Apple recently decided to take the Korean giant to court in Australia, asking them to block the sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. A while later, Samsung approached Apple to settle the debate outside the court, which Apple refused. Then yesterday, Samsung crashed Apple’s iPhone 4S launch part by giving away Galaxy S II smartphones for almost nothing for the first ten customers everyday till Friday right across the street from the Apple Store in Sydney, even nagging some of the people in line for the iPhone 4S.

But now Apple will be having the last laugh because the Australian court has granted Apple injunction against Samsung, blocking the sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. Read more »

Social networking sites don’t really get more recognizable than Facebook and for all the great things the iPad brings to the table, until now Facebook has amazingly not been one of them.

Excluding scaling up the iPhone app or accessing the site through Mobile Safari, Facebook has only really been available in app form via 3rd party solutions. Read more »

Qualcomm has released the specifications of its upcoming Snapdragon S4 chipset, which will be the first in the mobile world to be using 28nm process technology. That would give it a substantial advantage in power-efficiency and processing power over its competitors.

The Snapdragon S4 chipset will be packing either two or four brand new Krait cores, which have been custom designed by Qualcomm and should bring a 60% improvement over the currently used Scorpion processors at the same clock speed. However, Qualcomm has obviously found 60% to be an insufficient upgrade and it will be clocking those cores from 1.5GHz to the mind-blowing 2.5GHz. Read more »

The youngest member of the Galaxy Tab family of Honeycomb slates just got its US pricing revealed. The Wi-Fi-only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 will come in two flavors – 16GB and 32GB, which will cost $399 and $499, respectively.

For that kind of cash you are getting a 7″ slate with a WSVGA PLS LCD that runs the latest, 3.2, edition of Honeycomb on a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU. You should know that there’s a microSD card slot on board, too, so we are not sure that there’s much sense in ordering the 32GB unit for that kind of premium. Read more »
