Pegman returns to Google Maps with new update

You may have noticed that after the latest major Google Maps update for desktop browsers, an important figure suddenly went missing: Pegman. This move made many users frustrated by their inability to quickly access Street View and nearby images by dragging the icon onto the map, and more than a few people opted to continue using Google Maps’ classic view.

Now, the latest update brings back Pegman, and makes viewing images, panoramas, and even indoor areas even easier by having all of them appear on the map whenever you grab hold of Pegman. Read more »

Google announces Helpouts

Google Helpouts is a brand new service from Google that will let you get help on any topic you want from real people over the internet through a video call. The service offers you a bunch of topics to choose from and you can also type in what you need help with.

Helpouts then presents you with options that match your query. You will see a list of Helpouts that you can choose from that best match your query, with the name of the people who will be conducting the call. You can start a Helpout call with the person immediately or schedule it for later. Read more »

Facebook’s latest third quarter earnings report shows things are looking up for the social media giant after a rough entrance into public trading following its IPO last year.

Google+ gets a ton of new features along with Hangouts

At yesterday’s Google event, the company announced a slew of new features for their Google+ social networking service, along with the Hangouts messaging service.

Google+ already had a pretty impressive photo sharing experience that is way ahead of what other services such as Facebook offer but now Google has made it even better. In the new update, the service automatically scans your photos and sorts them by categories such as sunsets, snow, etc. by identifying over a thousand objects within the images to make searching for your photos easier. Amazon’s Kindle MatchBook now available with 70,000 books

Amazon recently announced its new service, named Kindle MatchBook, and it has now gone live. MatchBook allows you to buy the Kindle editions of your print books for $2.99 or less.

You can now use handwriting input in Gmail and Google Drive

Google already offers handwriting input in its Mobile Search, Google Translate (on web, Android and iOS) and in Chrome but it’s now adding it to its Gmail and Google Drive services.

Currently handwriting input supports over 20 languages in Google Drive and over 50 in Gmail. In order to get handwriting input you need to enable it in input tools in either service. Read more »

Moto X MotoMaker now lets you sync contacts and calendars from Apple’s iCloud

Motorola’s MotoMaker, the online software that let’s you customize the Moto X (currently only in the US and so far only on AT&T) has a fresh new feature that will appeal to Moto X converts coming from iOS.

After purchasing a Moto X through MotoMaker customers will be given a choice, if coming from an iPhone, to add their iCloud and Google credentials and have their iOS contacts and calendars synced with Google. Read more »

Some 2.9 million accounts compromised in Adobe Creative Cloud hack

Cyber attackers have breached Adobe’s new Creative Cloud customer subscription model, and have gained access to some 2.9 million user accounts.

Google might soon launch a native Music app for iOS

Google launched its own music streaming services at its I/O event this summer. The Google Play Music All Access has been exclusive to the Android platform since then, but we might soon see a native Google Music app for iOS, according to a report from Engadget.

Google is said to have started testing out its native iOS app and the new service will allegedly launch later this month. The app seems to have a few bugs, which need fixing before the final version of the app is out for public. Read more »

Google turns 15, announces upgrades to its search engine

Well, Happy birthday Google and Google Search! The search giant (along with its bread and butter) turned 15 this month but showed that it’s not just eating cake and celebrating – there was serious work done before the actual party.

Android Device Manager now features remote locking option

Google was expected to update its own tracking service, known as Android Device Manager with the remote locking feature. The newest security option is now available on the ADM dashboard and you can remotely lock your smartphone from the web interface.

Google recently launched its own service, which allows you to locate your misplaced Android smartphone and to protect your privacy if your device is stolen. Initially, the latest service came with ability to locate your smartphone on Google Maps via the Device Manager website.
