Skype celebrates the whopping 2 billion minutes a day milestone

If you’re between 6 and 70 years old then you probably have or are still using Skype’s services for connecting with others on a daily basis. Well Skype is thanking all of you today with a special infographic because the service has reached 2 billion minutes a day milestone.

To put things in perspective (sort of) that means more than 3805 years or around 38 centuries of being connected on Skype, or enough time to walk around the Earth more than 845 times! Read more »

Quickoffice editing for Google Apps for Business subscribers no longer exclusive to iPad, hits iPhone and Android

Google, owner of Quickoffice, now lets users with Google Apps for Business use Quickoffice for editing docs on any Android smartphone and the iPhone. Previously, the editing functionality was available only for Google Apps for Business subscribers with iPads only so it’s good to see Google expanding.

As before Quickoffice is able to find and work with Google Drive documents and then let you save them into your Drive on iOS. Once you’ve signed in with your Google Apps for Business account in Quickoffice you’ll get the standard “Shared With Me”, “Starred”, “Recent” and any subfolders. Read more »

Facebook rolls out free calling on Messenger for iOS to the UK

Back in February, Facebook launched free calling through its Messenger for iOS app in the US and Canada.

Security hole spotted in Apple’s iForgot page, gets promptly fixed

Yesterday, we reported that Apple had implemented a two-step verification process for Apple IDs to add another layer of protection against unauthorized access to your account.

Shortly after that, however, a major security hole was discovered on the iForgot website (which allows users to reset their password) where you could reset the password for any Apple ID even if you have just the email and date of birth. This left anyone who hadn’t enabled the two-step verification vulnerable. Read more »

iCloud tops Cloud Media Services in the US for the fall with 27%

According to a survey by Strategy Analytics which was gathered by data collected last fall Apple’s iCloud is the most popular cloud service in the US.

27% of those surveyed who use a cloud service have tried iCloud in US with Dropbox and Amazon Cloud Drive in second and third with 17& and 15% respectively. Read more »

YouTube hits 1 billion monthly users, reaching one of two people using the Internet now

YouTube proudly announced that it has reached an important milestone. 8 years after its creation the popular video-sharing site has suprassed 1 billion monthly users.

The help you understand just how impressive this stat is, YouTube puts it into perspective stating that it reaches nearly one out of every two people on the Internet. Its user base is so vast that in fact, if it were a country, YouTube would be the third-largest, right after China and India. Read more »

The Samsung Galaxy S4 promo video gives you the features rundown in little over 4 minutes

Samsung has posted the first Galaxy S4 promo video on YouTube. As usual the clips goes through the phone’s design, software and hardware perks, and does so with a catchy background music and a patterned background to match the pattern of the smartphone itself.

We get to see Air View, which lets you hover a finger over the screen and get a thumbnail preview pop up. Smart Pause, which can monitor if your eyes move away from the screen and pause a video for you. See the S4 operated with gloves and much more. Read more »

Evernote loses usernames, emails and passwords in security breach, resets passwords as a precaution

Popular cloud-based note taking service Evernote experienced a security breach, where the company confirms it lost information such as usernames, associated email addresses and passwords to the hackers. No data, however, was said to be lost or changed and no payment information was accessed.

Even though the passwords were encrypted, the company is not taking any chances and is requiring users to reset their password before logging in again to their accounts. The company will also be releasing updates to its apps over the next few hours to make the password change process easier. Read more »

Pandora limits mobile streaming to 40 hours a month due to the rising royalty costs

The popular internet radio service Pandora has announced the implementation of its new 40 hours per month limit on mobile listening. However, the new limitation is expected to affect less than 4% of the total monthly listeners (probably, the abusers) as the average listener spends approximately 20 hours a month listening to Pandora.

Pandora’s per track royalty rates has been on the raise and according to few reports the royalty rates have increased by more than 25% over the last 3 years and have invoked the company to implement the new limits. Read more »

Nokia recently unveiled its Music+ service and now the subscription is available for the Nokia Lumia users in the US market.

Nokia Music+ aims to take on the host of currently available music streaming services with a much cheaper price tag. The latest service from Nokia offers you unlimited downloads for offline use, unlimited skips and allows you to use the service on as many devices as you have, while barely affecting your credit card bill. Twitter updates Android and iOS apps, brings search and UI changes

Twitter has released updated versions of their mobile apps, with the Android version getting the bulk of the changes. Among the list of improvements common to both iOS and Android versions is a new Discover view, which shows a single stream of tweets, trends, activity and accounts to follow.

The search has also been update and now presents you with accounts, tweets and pictures relevant to your query. The Connect tab has been updated to show only Interactions view now but you can switch it to show only mentions from the Settings menu. Read more »

Apple’s iTunes store hits record 25 billionth downloaded song, lucky guy wins €10k voucher
