The Xperia PLAY enjoyed exclusivity with a number of titles, most notably including the likes of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, the mobile iteration of hit indy title Minecraft, made by Swedish game developers Mojang.

If you thought the OS on the PlayStation Vita would be limited to that device, think again. It seems Sony is looking into porting the Vita OS onto smartphones and tablets. This OS has apparently been designed by Sony to be expandable and can be used for powering smartphones and tablets. They may not be in a hurry to port it over on to other platforms right now but it is certainly something they could do down the line.

Vodafone UK will be offering Sony’s next-gen portable console, the PlayStation Vita, starting February 22 (the same date as the US launch). The console packs impressive hardware for a portable device – 5.5″ AMOLED screen, quad-core Cortex-A9 processor and PowerVR SGX543MP4+.

It comes with 3G connectivity too – for a £5 top-up you can get 250MB data (that you have to use within 30 days). An extra perk is that you’ll get a free game too, WipEout 2048 along with the data. Read more »

After a few years of domination, the Nintendo Wii has finally yielded upon the Xbox 360. The Microsoft’s console sold 8.2 million units throughout the holiday quarter – 2.6 million more than the Wii sales.

It is also the best-selling console for the whole 2011 with 14.9 million Xboxes sold. The PlayStation 3 comes second with 14.1 million and the Wii is last with 10.33 million units sold. Read more »

The Kinect controller for Windows has just become available. It is compatible with all Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs with a 2.66GHz dual-core or faster CPU and at least 2GB RAM.

Note that the Kinect for Windows comes with no pre-bundled compatible application or game. We are yet to see its powers in Windows environment. Read more »

The hit mobile game Cut the Rope has now landed on your desktop browser. The game developers have partnered with Microsoft to release the game for their Internet Explorer 9 browser. Having said that, the game works just fine on other browsers too.

This version of the game seems to be identical to the one that we saw for Windows 8. It uses a landscape layout unlike the mobile versions. Right now, you only have 25 levels available, with the last seven only available if you pin the game through IE9 to your Windows 7 taskbar. Additional levels are expected to arrive soon. Read more »

February 22, the launch day for the North American version of the the PlayStation Vita is drawing near and Sony has now announced a new version for those who’d like to buy the console on the day of the launch.

This limited edition Launch Bundle comes with the 3G/Wi-Fi version of the PlayStation Vita, along with a free PSN game, 8GB memory card and an AT&T DataConnect Session pass that will give you 250MB of free 3G data. The Launch Bundle will set you back by $299, which is actually a bit less than the standard 3G/Wi-Fi model, which would cost you $299.99. Read more »

Rage HD is not only one of the best looking games on iOS but also one of the best looking games on any mobile platform. Now this gorgeous first person shooter has been upgraded to v2.0 and brings along some nice goodies.

For starters, you get higher resolution player and weapon models in the game. Secondly, the game brings performance enhancements and a wide variety of bug fixes. Next, the game also includes the ability to output the video through an HDMI cable to a television so now you can play the game on a bigger screen. Read more »

Qualcomm recently launched GameCommand to showcase games that leverage on the capabilities of the their Adreno GPUs. GameCommand features games from various dev companies, but apparently, Qualcomm are upping the ante with a game studio of their own.

This Valentine’s day may be quite lonely for a lot of people, whose significant others are into Angry Birds. Rovio just confirmed that their immensely popular title is hitting the world’s largest social network on February 14.

Rovio plans to hold a huge launch event in Jakarta, which according to the company is the “global capital of Facebook”. The Facebook version will brings some nice new twists to the gameplay, so it’s definitely one worth checking out. Read more »

Steam has released a new companion application for the iOS and Android platforms. This app lets you browse all the Steam games, see if there are new offers and chat with your Steam friends. Unfortunately, it seems you can’t buy any games through the app for now but you can add it to your cart so you can purchase it through the desktop client.

But what’s worse is that the app will only let you use it if you’re part of the beta program. Steam has restricted access to a few accounts and you have to sign in to request an invite. After that you wait for the invite to arrive so you can use the app, which let’s face it, doesn’t let you do much. Read more »

With Microsoft’s next-gen console expected to hit stores between late October and early November 2013, speculation of its final hardware is already on everyone’s lips.

That latest rumblings contradict initial speculation that the Xbox ’720′ was going to utilize AMD’s Radeon 7000 series Southern Islands GPUs and in their place, it’s expect to be using a derivative of a Radeon 6000 series unit. Read more »

I can’t believe I am writing this – Counter-Strike has gone mobile. Yes, one of the most played and famous multiplayer first-person shooters is undergoing serious development for Android devices.

The games comes courtesy of the devs over at XDA. Currently, they are working on two versions – 5o (that’s five-oh), which runs on Android 2.0+ devices and 6p, which is for Android 2.3+ devices and looks a lot like Counter-Strike 1.6. Read more »
