WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update across the various platforms that prioritizes the voice messaging feature of the service. This move probably comes after other messaging services have started incorporating and promoting their voice messaging feature.
To be clear, this is not a new feature even for WhatsApp as the functionality was always available. The only difference is that now it is prominently placed in the UI with the latest update. Now, you’ll see a microphone button instead of the Send button when no message is being typed in the message field. Press and hold this button and your message starts getting recorded. Skype, the popular instant messenger, has updated its Windows Phone 8 application and the latest version now comes with few new features and tweaks to improve its performance.
Skype for Windows Phone 8 now has a people list filter, which allows you to filter out your phone contacts and your Skype contacts. You can now have a list of all your contacts, just Skype contacts or only those that are online. Read more »
Nokia has released a new commercial for the Lumia 925 that showcases the camera capability of the device and pits it against the iPhone 5.
The video is directed in the same way as the recent iPhone commercial, showing people using the Lumia 925 in almost near identical situations, obviously intended more as a mockery of Apple’s commercial rather than flattery. Nokia shows side by side comparisons of low light shots taken through the Lumia 925 and the iPhone 5 and the former obviously has an edge over the latter due to the presence of optical image stabilization that enables the use of a longer shutter speed. Nokia has updated its Pro Cam app for its recently launched Lumia 1020 smartphone. The Pro Cam app, which grants you full control over the settings of the monstrous camera and allows capture of 38MP shots, now brings the exposure bracketing functionality.

In our preview of the Nokia Lumia 1020 we noticed that the camera produces photos with more saturated colors than the 808 PureView, which aimed for accurate, realistic colors. Damian Dinning – former Nokia camera guru, the man in charge of the 808 development and a fan of realistic colors in photos – says the change was made on purpose, to match the preference of the majority of users.

The Amber update for Nokia Lumia phones will bring a number of нев features to current phones, including the Glance feature. What is Glance? It allows you to wake the phone with a double tap (a la MeeGo) and it displays the time and missed notifications.
It’s not an AMOLED-only feature, LCD-packing Lumias will get it too. They can leverage the Timed option, which switches off the display completely after a preset period of time. Read more »

Which is the most popular, Windows Phone handset you ask? The Nokia Lumia 520 is after raising from fifth place a month ago according to numbers by AdDuplex. The entry-level handset holds 13.3% of the worldwide WP market, ahead of the flagship Lumia 920′s 11.8% (the 925, 928 and 1020 are too new to have made a dent).
