The chipset of the upcoming Sony Ericsson LT22i Nypon smartphone made its first public appearance as several demo videos appeared. The ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 chipset comes with a couple of Cortex-A9 cores, clocked at 1GHz and a Mali-400MP GPU.

Unsurprisingly, it was shown to run the latest version of Android – 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Presumably, ICS will be the OS of choice for the Sony Ericsson Nypon, when it comes out next year. Read more »

We just got word on what might be the next big thing in the tablet world. Or rather things, as the leak involves two Android-running slates. Acer Iconia Tab A701 and Iconia Tab A700 are a couple of monster devices running on the Tegra 3 chipset, featuring a quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU.

Yet we feel that the displays of the two slates will be what proves to be their key selling point. We are talking 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution here. That’s FullHD in 16:10 aspect, which is unprecedented in the tablet world. Read more »

It’s not exactly shocking, but Chinese newspaper Commercial Times has published a report saying that HTC will announce its first Tegra 3 powered tablet at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next year.

According to the paper, at MWC in February, the Taiwanese-based manufacturer will not only announce an Android tablet, but two Android smartphones too. Could one of them be the recently leaked HTC Edge? Read more »

We got an interesting tip from one of our readers, about the upcoming Sony Ericsson flagship. The handset, which he refers to as Sony Ericsson Arc HD (though the final name will probably be different) is said to come with a 720p screen (that’s 1280 x 720 pixels) and support FullHD video recording.

A pretty cool feature of the Sony Ericsson (or just Sony, if the deal goes through before the announcement) Xperia Arc HD will be the option to capture full-res still shots while recording video. That would allow you to capture the most interesting moments of your videos in full resolution without interrupting the videos themselves. Read more »

We just got wind of some photos of an upcoming LG smartphone, which is yet to be announced. The device will reportedly be called LG Optimus U1 and will be the company’s first handset to run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Our anonymous tipster didn’t give us any more details and we cannot confirm the authenticity of the image, but we couldn’t find anything wrong with it so we’re giving it the benefit of doubt. Plus, this one looks like a Korea-bound smartphone, judging by its design and it would make perfect sense for LG to release a handset called Optimus U1 there. Read more »

An insider source has apparently disclosed to The Korea Times that Apple is indeed counting on Samsung to produce its quad-core custom A6 processor that should be showcased in the next iPhone and iPad incarnations – whether 5 and 3 or something involving the letter “S” and so forth.

A supposed exec from an Apple parts supplier has said that Apple is in talks with Samsung over the shipments of its A6 processor and that Apple still views Samsung as a “critical business partner”. Read more »

As all Android fans should be familiar by now, every Android release is marked with a beautiful mascot in the Google headquarters’ backyard. The Ice Cream Sandwich is also nearing its release (October 19, anyone?), so it makes sense we see its statue already standing among its siblings.

A press image of the yet unannounced LG Doubleplay for T-Mobile US (which we first saw under the assumed name ‘Flip II’) just appeared online and gave us a clearer view of what the upcoming droid will look like. The peculiar QWERTY slider will pack a couple of screens – a HVGA main one and a secondary display of unknown resolution on the QWERTY.

Other specs of the T-Mobile Doubleplay that we know include a 5 MP camera, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. That logo on the screen also shows that there’s 4G connectivity, which in T-Mobile’s case couldn’t be anything but HSPA+. Read more »

It would appear that something special will be coming out of Verizon and Motorola’s goodie bag later this month as they hint at a ‘big innovation’ to be unveiled at 12pm on October 18th.

OK, so this may not make up for the delay to the Samsung/Google ‘Unpacked’ event that we had been expecting, but chief of staff at mydroidworld.com, P3Droid has another piece of Nexus Prime/Ice Cream Sandwich goodness to add to the pile.

OK, I admit the Meltemi case has become awkward. First it was the good news about Nokia working on a Linux-based project called Meltemi to replace the S40 platform. Then all of a sudden we found out The Register has already revealed months ago that the Meltemi is actually the codename for Nokia’s Windows Phone project.

We just found out that the Nokia Sea Ray, the first Windows Phone handset from the Finnish manufacturer, will supposedly be called ‘Sun’. There are at least a couple of other WP7 Nokia phones in the rumor mill and one of them might be called ‘Lumia’.
