The Jelly Bean update didn’t bring quick toggles in the notification area as expected, but most of the manufacturers offer them within their custom UI launchers (TouchWiz, Sense, etc.). Read more »

by 83 comments

Lately, it’s been quiet on the iPad Mini rumors side. When 10 Oct, the rumored invitation day, came and went, we started worrying that previous rumors have let us down. While this may be the case indeed, not all is lost, as new rumors suggest the announcement event has only been moved to October 23.

Today’s rumors are not any better than the last, but at least, they help keep our hopes high. Read more »

Is Google working with Samsung on a 10.1-inch Nexus tablet with a Retina-beating screen?

by 85 comments

The rumor mill is going wild with gossip about various Nexus devices – from an LG-made Nexus phone to a new 10″ Nexus tablet. The rumor claims the new tab will have a killer screen, better than even the one on the new iPad.

It will reportedly be a high-end device, unlike the current (and only) Nexus tablet -the Asus-made Nexus 7 (and it’s potential $99 version). The Nexus 10 will reportedly be manufactured and co-branded with Samsung. Read more »

BlackBerry OS 10 tutorials caught on video, cool new gestures demonstrated

by 62 comments

BlackBerry OS 10 faced a few delays, but the waiting might be worth it as the new OS is a far cry from its bland, text-based predecessors. The new OS relies heavily on clever gestures for many of the basic tasks – even going back to the homescreen is done with a gesture rather than a button like on Android or iOS. As such, BB OS 10 brings back memories of the (short-lived) excitement that MeeGo caused.

The best way to teach users the new gestures are quick and simple tutorials played on the phone itself. Here are four of them, that show both gestures we’ve seen before and a few of new ones. Read more »

The Samsung I9260 – purportedly the Galaxy Nexus 2 – is such a tease. We’ve already seen a couple of photos that were (perhaps accidentally, perhaps not) uploaded to Picasa and now there’s a new one.

The HTC 5-inch phablet to be the Google Nexus 5?

by 134 comments

It will soon be a year from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus announced, and if Google keeps with the tradition, we should be seeing its successor. According to a tip we received, the device to replace it might be the oft rumored HTC 5″ phablet, known as Droid Incredible X or One X 5. There’s no way to confirm the validity of the tip so take it with a pinch of salt, but it certainly sounds plausible.

Our anonymous tipster claims that the Google Nexus 5 will run on Android 4.1.2, which brings bugfixes, Project Butter improvements, extra lockscreen functionality as well as other minor tweaks. Read more »

Is this the real iPad mini?

by 61 comments

A Chinese website says it had an encounter with an actual iPad mini. Looking on these shots below, I will surely give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

The iPhone 5 leaked long before it was announced, so maybe Apple’s R&D center isn’t as leak-proof as it was. Read more »

Apple iPhone 5 rumors roundup: what came true and what not

by 49 comments

Naturally, prior to its announcement, the iPhone 5 was surrounded by hundreds of rumors. Somewhat unexpectedly though, this time round most of them turned out correct and we knew almost all there was to know about the latest Apple flagship, long before Tim Cook took the stage.

The amount of leaks of hardware parts and accessories as well as reports of iPhone 5′s features that turned out to be true was staggering. In fact we knew more about the iPhone 5 than we knew about the iPhone 4 and back then a real unit escaped the R&D center. There were still a few persistent rumors that turned out incorrect, so we thought we might do a quick round up and see if we’d actually miss any of them. Read more »

This userland iPhone 5 video is as close to the real deal as we’ll see before Wednesday

by 171 comments

By now even my grandma knows the new iPhone will be announced on Wednesday (and it took me a good half an hour on the phone to explain what’s an iPhone). My point is one of the hottest industry events is just around the corner and the rumor soup has already reached a boiling point. Things get frantic and for the casual reader it gets pretty hard to follow all the rumored leads and suggested features.

It’s exactly cases like this, when there’s nothing better than a nice, fake iPhone 5 ad to get us through the latest rumors in a quick and informative way. And kudos to the author, as this is one nicely done video. Read more »
