Tumblr for iOS was recently updated with few new features and the app now gets a “very important” security update. The latest fix addresses an issue that allowed passwords to be compromised in certain circumstances.

BlackBerry’s CEO Thorsten Heins announced that the popular BlackBerry Messenger will be available on Android and iOS back at the BlackBerry live 2013 conference. We then had a tweet from the BlackBerry Worldwide tweeter account stating that the app will be available on June 27.

Unfortunately, the account didn’t turn out to be an official BlackkBerry affair and the BlackBerry Messenger for the Android and iOS did not make its appearance on the suggested date. Ever since the Google Maps application got separated from iOS and started life as a standalone app on the App Store, it has only been available on the iPhone with iPad users having to rely on Apple Maps for navigation. The latest update, however, fixes that and Google Maps is now available on the iPad as well.

The iPad version makes good use of that big beautiful canvas and hides all the controls and just keeps the search bar in the top left corner. We have been hearing reports about a woman’s death in China caused by an electric shock while answering a phone call on her iPhone 5. Now Apple has chipped in, saying it will be fully investigating the issue and will be co-operating with the authorities, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The 23-year old flight attendant had purchased her brand new Apple iPhone 5 in the month of December 2012 and the phone with all the in-box accessories has been already handed over to the police by her family. Read more »

Rovio teased its new Angry Birds game in last week and now the popular game publisher has officially announced the Angry Birds Star Wars II.

The Angry Birds Star Wars II is said to be bigger, more innovative than any of the other titles in the franchise. The upcoming Angry Birds game will be based on the prequel Star Wars movies and the gameplay will feature 30 different characters. Read more »

The name Rovio has long been associated only with the Angry Birds series. Although the company has tried to branch out a bit by releasing titles such as Amazing Alex and Bad Piggies in the past, neither managed to emulate the success of Angry Birds, which also meant Rovio kept going back to the well and kept releasing more Angry Birds game to the point where it’s now hard to tell which one’s which.

Warner Bros. Pictiures’ epic giant monster vs. giant robot action movie Pacific Rim released in theaters this week. As has often become the case these days, a movie tie-in game is not far behind thus we now have the Pacific Rim game on iOS and Android.

Rovio has released a new game for iOS and Android called Tiny Thief, the first game to come out of the Rovio Stars initiative. The game is now available for download on the App Store and the Play Store for $2.99.

Tiny Thief is a puzzle solving game, involving the adventures of a thief who is trying to escape from the authorities. It’s a point-and-click (or tap, in this case) game, where you interact with objects on screen by tapping on them and solving the puzzles. According to a research conducted by StatCounter, Samsung smartphones have overtaken Apple iPhones and iPod Touches in web browsing for June and now account for 25.5% of worldwide pageviews. Apple is still close behind at 25.1%, though.

The analyst company puts Nokia in third place with a 22% share. StatCounter has been monitoring web usage of smartphone brands across a network of 3 million websites to compile the report. Read more »

Microsoft has released a new ad to promote its Windows 8 tablets. The latest ad, which goes by the name “Baseball”, talks up the multi-tasking abilities of a Windows 8 tablet by comparing them against those of the Apple’s iPad.

Google Latitude will be officially retiring on August 9. Related products in Google Maps for Android, Latitude for iPhone, the Latitude API, the public badge, the iGoogle Gadget and the Latitude website will no longer be available in a month.

The retirement of Google Latitude means that you will no longer be able to share your location using the latitude and Google hasn’t included latitude as a feature in its latest version of Google Maps for Android.
