Rumor has it Apple is looking to introduce a 12.9″ iPad Maxi in the first half of next year

Apple higher-ups always say “We’re never going to do X” and later they go and do X anyway – the company was claiming that 9.7″ is the perfect screen size for a tablet and then went and released a smaller, 7.9″ tablet. Can the same happen in the other direction, a tablet with a bigger screen?

Korean site ETNews thinks yes and claims Apple plans to launch an iPad Maxi (no, it’s not going to be called that) in the first half of next year. The publication also suggests that Apple is already talking to parts suppliers that will make the screens. Read more »

Real Racing 3 set to receive a Dubai-themed update soon, will let you race at the Dubai Autodrome

The popular racing game Real Racing 3 is about to get a major update dubbed simply The Dubai Update. As you’ve already guessed by now, racing will take place in Dubai, and more specifically at the Dubai Audorome.

Microsoft pits the Lumia 920 camera against the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III

If you ever stumbled upon the recently created Windows Phone tumblr blog, you’d have notice a smattering of amusing GIFs comparing the quality of the Lumia 920′s low light images against those of the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III.

Now, they have released a video that shows the three phones placed side by side, shooting the same bizarre scene all at the same time and then the results are provided for you to see. As you can guess, the Lumia 920 comes out on top with a significantly brighter image, with the iPhone 5 a distant second and the Galaxy S III in the last. Read more »

Apple releases new iPhone 5 TV commercial: ‘Music Every Day’

After some short, fast-paced ads with upbeat music, Apple went back to its roots with slower, more emotional ads for the iPhone 5 with the last one. Well, now, there is one more. Whereas the previous ad concentrated on the camera functionality of the iPhone, the new one focuses on the music experience.

As with the previous one, the entire ad is practically wordless with just some simple, soothing music playing in the background. We see people enjoying music on their iPhones in a variety of ways, from using the iconic white earbuds to loudspeaker, sound docks and even DJ consoles. In the end, you get a simple message: ‘Every day, more people enjoy their music on the iPhone than any other phone.’ Read more »

Microsoft’s latest Windows 8 tablet ad bashes the Apple iPad with the help of Siri

In one of its most memorable Windows 8 tablet ads to date, Microsoft utilized the voice of Apple’s own Siri virtual assistant to make a case for its product. The Redmond giant took a jab at the iPad in a parody of one of Apple’s commercials.

‘Karateka Classic’ for iOS and Android game review

Last year we reviewed the new Karateka game on iOS. It was a remake of the 1984 game that was originally released for the Apple II. The original game has a cult following and although the 2012 remake was a decent effort it didn’t quite have the charm of the original.

Now Jordan Mechner, the developer who created the original game and worked on the remake, has released a port of the 1984 game for iOS and Android. Called Karateka Classic, the game is a blast from the past that lets you relive the classic gameplay on your modern smartphone or tablet. Let us take a closer look at it. Read more »

Apple reduces iPad Mini’s display orders, hints at decline in shipments

Apple has reduced its orders for display panels from AU Optronics, the company that supplies the panels for the iPad Mini. The firm will now ship only 2.5 million to 2.8 million units in the second quarter, which is down from 4 million shipped in the first quarter.

According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple is cutting its orders due to a slowdown in iPad Mini shipments for the rest of the second quarter. Read more »

With the megapixel race fizzling out, Optical Image Stabilization seems to be the “next big thing” in mobile phone cameras. But it’s very rare – only two phones currently on sale have it, while the rest rely on digital processing to stabilize the image. CNET did a test to see how some of the most popular phones on the market cope with a user’s shaky hands.

eBay for iOS updated, gets an improved user interface and other performance tweaks

eBay has updated its iOS app and the latest version comes with few significant changes which enhance the user experience.

The user interface of the app has been tweaked and the application now has a much simpler and smoother UI. The update also brings an improved last minute bidding process, larger photo views and the ability to checkout multiple items at a time with the new eBay shopping cart in the United States and United Kingdom. You can now request an invite for the updated Google Maps

Google uncovered the redesigned Maps service featuring a slew of new features and capabilities at its Google I/O keynote yesterday. Alas, you will only have to wait until the summer to experience the new Maps in its full glory. Despite that, Google has set up a page for you to request an invite to experience the beta version of the service.

The new service sports a new user interface that’s centers only on the map itself. The map imagery itself is also slightly touched and is now completely vector-based. The social network now has a redesigned UI with a new stream, which is all about design and depth. Google has taken the multi-column design from the mobile devices and has brought it to the desktop, making the interface beautiful and dynamic.
