Quickoffice goes free on iOS and Android

Google recently acquired the company behind the Quickoffice app for iOS and Android devices. And just like with Snapseed, they have now made the app free and available on both platforms.

Quickoffice is a mobile productivity app that lets you create, view and edit Microsoft Office files, such as your Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The new app now also integrates with Google Drive and if you download and log into your Google account from the app, you also get an additional 10GB of Google Drive storage space for the next two years. Google Wallet now available on the iPhone

Google’s ambitious Wallet service has largely been ignored by everyone since it launched a couple of years ago. The service was available only on a handful of carriers and Android devices with NFC built-in and thus was unavailable to a majority of people out there.

Google partially solved the problem earlier this week by lifting the NFC limit and making the Wallet app available on every Android device and US carrier. But starting today, you can now also use the Google Wallet service on your iPhone. Read more »

Apple is blocking unauthorized third-party Lightning cables with iOS 7

It appears that Apple is blocking non-certified Lightning cables from charging iPhones running iOS 7. The move is line with a warning from the Cupertino giant, issued during the launch of an iOS 7 pre-release version.

Apple bumps the cellular download limit to 100MB, adds Chrome and Firefox bookmark sync to iCloud

Without making a big fuss about it, Apple has increased the download size limit over your cellular connection in the App Store apps and the iTunes videos, books, and music content to 100MB. Previously, the cap was set to 50MB, but as app development for iOS progresses, the size of apps increases and the bump was simply unavoidable.

Additionally, iCloud has dropped its exclusive Safari/Internet Explorer bookmark syncing capabilities and now supports syncing your iOS device bookmarks with both Chrome and Firefox. Read more »

Angry Birds Star Wars II now available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8

A few hours ago Rovio released the Angry Birds Star Wars II into the Android’s Play Store, Apple’s AppStore and Windows Phone Store. The games costs 99c, but you can have it for free on Android if you opt for the ad-supported version.

Angry Birds Star Wars II covers the events of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (Episode I, II and III), so the nostalgic fever we felt in the first game is now gone. Read more »

Apple has released a new TV commercial that showcases the new iPhone 5c and the iOS 7 update together. Apple already mentioned during the 5c keynote how both the 5c and the iOS 7 have been designed to work well together and this ad shows just that.

BBM arriving on Android and iOS this weekend

Good news for those who have been waiting for BBM on iOS and Android (yes, all four of you). BlackBerry has finally announced the dates when you will be able to download the app for your iOS or Android device.

Android users will be getting their hands on BBM first on September 21. iPhone users, meanwhile, will have to contain their enthusiasm for a day longer, and can download the app on September 22. Both apps will be available for free from their respective stores. Read more »

Google enables bandwidth compression feature in Chrome for iOS, invitations only

Google has enabled a data compression feature on Chrome for iOS, which cuts data usage by up to alleged 50%. The feature has been available for the beta version of Chrome for Android, and now it is making a first, limited appearance for iOS as well.

The way the data compression works is this – you request a web page in Google Chrome, it then goes through Google’s servers where it gets compressed and this is the version of the page you get. It’s the same, but up to 50% smaller in size. Read more »

Infinity Blade III now available for download on the App Store

The third and final installment in the popular Infinity Blade series of games has finally arrived on the App Store. The game was announced and demoed at last week’s Apple keynote running on the new iPhone 5s but you can now try it out for yourself on your existing iOS devices.

Infinity Blade III is the conclusion of the story that began with the original game. The basic gameplay remains the same, where you swipe on the screen at key moments to attack or defend, a gameplay mechanic introduced by the original Infinity Blade and then borrowed by countless others over time. Apple will offer the last compatible version of apps to users with older devices

With most of the Apple community eagerly waiting for the release of iOS 7 tomorrow, the Cupertino giant showed that it has not forgotten the users of older iOS hardware. Users of Apple devices which will not receive iOS 7 will be automatically offered the last compatible version of the iOS apps they are trying to download going forward.

First Apple iPhone 5c TV ad goes online
