Opera has released a brand new browser made specifically for the iPad called Coast. Coast reimagines the traditional browser interface and utilizes gestures to make the interaction easier and more attractive.

When you launch Coast you will see some sites pinned to the browser’s homescreen, along with the URL/search bar, which opens one of the most innovative interfaces I’ve seen. Read more »

Microsoft has announced that their music service, oddly named Xbox Music, will now be available on iOS and Android devices. The company has made dedicated apps for both platforms and they are now available for download for free on their respective stores.

Xbox Music is Microsoft’s subscription based ‘all you can eat’ music service, where you pay a subscription fee and then stream as much music as you want. You will need to purchase the Xbox Music Pass that enables you to use the service. Read more »

You may know 2K Games from excellent desktop and console series such as Bioshock, Borderlands and Mafia. Their sports division, 2K Sports, has now released a new title for iOS, called 2K Drive.

2K Drive is a racing game but not quite in the same league as your Asphalt or Need for Speed. It’s more along the lines of Real Racing, wherein it is a simulation racing game that tries to be more realistic with believable physics and other characteristics. Activision has released a brand new version of Call of Duty, called Call of Duty: Strike Team, on iOS. The game has been built from the ground up for the mobile platform and features a unique hybrid FPS and third person modes.

Playing first person shooters on consoles is difficult enough as it is with a controller but on a touch device with no physical buttons it is even more frustrating. Activision seems to understand this well, which is why they have offered the choice to play the game in a top down third person mode. Read more »

2K and Lucid games have joined forced to release 2K Drive exclusively to iOS devices.

The new racing game for mobiles features some 25 licenced cars, as well as multiplayer connectivity and social networking integration. Read more »

According to the latest report from ABI research, Android smartphone app revenues are expected to reach $6.8 billion – nearly twice more than last years numbers.

While that may sound like a lot, that’s only about 60% of the total posted by iOS – the clear leader in app revenue amongst all mobile OS’s. Read more »

Hawaiian Airlines will start using iPad minis as an alternative to (and eventual replacement of) its existing in-flight entertainment system on all of the company’s Boeing 767-300 planes.

The company plans to roll the portable Apple tablets starting September 1 and plans to deploy 1,500 iPad minis to 14 airplanes, which serve 14 routes between the US and Hawaii. This makes Hawaiian Airlines the first US airline company to deploy Apple tablets on board. Read more »

Companies behind mobile OSes love bragging about how many apps there are in their respective app stores, but mobile app testing company StarDust has conducted a 6 month long study and found things they wouldn’t be so proud about.

The study looked into how many old apps get updated and how many don’t get updated at all. The results of the study are presented as an easy to digest infographic. Read more »

Twitter is a buzzing social network of which conversations have always been an integral part but up until now were rather hard to follow – you’d need to dig through people’s profiles in order to see what’s going on.

However now Twitter is rolling out an update on its website as well as on Android and iOS clients, which puts conversations into focus. You’ll get up to three replies to a tweet displayed and there’s a new tap to see all replies thread link. Read more »

Apple’s iWatch is one of the most hotly anticipated gadgets, especially after reports that Samsung will be launching its Galaxy Gear smartwatch next week. However, according to the latest gossip, Apple’s iWatch is not coming anytime soon and is expected to launch only in the second half of 2014.

According to an analyst at CIMB Group, 60% of Apple’s iWatch orders are expected to be manufactured by Invetec, the Taiwan-based ODM. The deal is expected to generate about 19% of Invetec’s profits in the coming year. Read more »

Asphalt 8: Airborne is the latest in the long running series of mobile racing games from Gameloft. The previous game in the series — Asphalt 7: Heat — was a phenomenal game and one of the best racing games available on mobile today.

Airborne lets you take to the air, jumping off ramps and performing stunts mid-air with your car. Add to that a new range of cars and tracks, improved graphics and some new gameplay modes and you have all the ingredients for a great sequel. But does all that necessarily make it a great game? There have been some particularly cheeky iPhone knockoffs, but this one is pretty entertaining. It was slowly, teasingly revealed to a mostly sarcastic crowd at 4chan with a pretty big plot twist. At any rate, it’s a fun detraction from the deluge of iPhone 5S and 5C leaks.

We reviewed Contra: Evolution when it was released on iOS back in May. Now, developers Punchbox Studios have also released an Android version of the game on the Play Store for $0.99.

Contra: Evolution, as you can imagine, is an evolved version of the 1987 cult classic. The gameplay and even the general level design is nearly identical but the game has been given a solid shot in the arm with significantly updated visuals that are completely redrawn and not just running at a higher resolution like most ports. Gameloft’s next big release in the Asphalt series of racing games – Asphalt 8: Airborne – has finally been released on the App Store. The Android version of the game should be arriving shortly and even a Windows Phone 8 version is on the cards.

Just two months after Google acquired the community-based traffic and navigation app Waze, the company’s Maps app now supports real time incident reports. The information will come directly from reports submitted by the Waze community, but the feature won’t be available everywhere.

At first users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, UK and the US will benefit from real time accident, construction, road closure and other reports submitted from Waze users. However, Google Maps isn’t the only app that benefits from the collaboration of the two companies. The Waze app has been updated as well. Read more »
