Google Play Game Services provides game cloud saves, leaderboards, multiplayer and achivements

In addition to multiple new and cool APIs for developers, Hugo Barra introduced Google Play Game Service which introduces leaderboards, game progress saves in the cloud, real-time multiplayer and game achievements.

What’s cool is that all of the new game services features, save for real-time multiplayer, are going to work crossplatform between Android, iOS and the web. Read more »

Analog Camera for iPhone unveiled, will soon be available in the AppStore

Realmac software, the creator of the popular Clear to-do app, has launched a new iPhone photography software called Analog Camera.

The newly built photography app features a simple user interface and comes with a set of filters for post-processing. The application is built on the existing Analog for Mac program, but with a much simpler and smoother UI. Read more »

Flipboard for iOS updated to v2.02, check out your friends’ magazines

A new update to popular news-consuming application Flipboard brings about a handful of new features. Magazine curators can now make fuller standalone profiles and readers can easily find what magazines their friends have created thanks to the new Friends category in the Content Guide. But that’s not all.

Rovio announces Angry Birds Seasons: Abra-Ca-Bacon, to hit your appstore on May 16

Rovio has just announced the latest update for the Angry Birds Seasons game. Dubbed Abra-Ca-Bacon, the new release is set to bring some interesting features to the franchise.

One of them is the addition of Magic Portals which allows you to teleport Angry Birds, Bad Piggies and everything else in the game. Furthermore, there are 30 new levels joined by six bonus levels for your unlocking pleasure. Read more »

Asphalt 7: Heat goes free on iOS, probably for limited time

Gameloft’s Asphalt 7: Heat racing game is now free in the Apple’s AppStore. It was released in June 2012 on iOS and until now it maintained the $0.99 price tag.

Google allows iOS developers to use Chrome instead of Safari to open links from their apps

After the launch of Google Now for iOS (check out our full review), Google’s charge on Apple’s mobile platform continues with the little, but important piece of code that allows developers to open links from their apps in Chrome instead of Safari.

The new feature is dubbed iOS links and iOS developers can utilize it to open links in Chrome; something that Google has been doing with its YouTube, Maps and Gmail apps for quite a while now. Read more »

Rovio introduces accounts for game progress syncing, just two titles supported at launch

One of the main gripes people have with Rovio and its games is that progress isn’t synced from one device to another. The company has listened and as a result has introduced Rovio accounts yesterday.

Signing up for an account requires just an email address and that’s it. Once you’ve registered you can set up your games to sync between your phone and tablet for instance. Sadly, not all of the Rovio titles are supported just yet. Read more »

Instagram 3.5 update brings photo tagging, minor UI changes

Instagram has released v3.5 of their mobile app for iOS and Android and along with that introduced a new feature to the service. Now, you will be able to tag your friends in your photos and see all the pictures you have been tagged in in your profile.

To tag someone in a photo, click on the ‘Add People’ option after you take a photo. You will them be asked to tap anywhere on the photo you want to tag someone and then type their profile name. You then select the ID and the photo gets tagged. You can not just tag new photos but also existing ones by clicking on the options key in the bottom right of each photo. Read more »

IDC: 49.2M tablets shipped in Q1 2013, Android and iOS still the top dogs

According to a preliminary data from the IDC, the tablet market is set to skyrocket in 2013 with a very promising first quarter. The data is still preliminary, but IDC expects to see a 142% jump in tablet shipments this quarter with a total of 49.2 million units shipped – more than all of 2012′s first half.

Apple continues to be at the top of the tablet sales chart for Q1 2013, managing to ship 19.5 million units, which secured it a 39.6% tablet market share. Year-over-year growth for the company is impressive as well at 65.3%, but not nearly as impressive as the rest of the tablet manufacturers. Read more »
