Nokia and Microsoft have been targeting Android and iOS in their ads and campaigns, urging users to switch to Lumia while Microsoft is planning on releasing an Android app demonstrating the variety of WP’s apps.

Google gets €145,000 fine for collecting Wi-Fi data with its Street View cars in Germany

Google got into some hot water when it was discovered its Street View cars are collecting Wi-Fi data (including things like email, passwords and more) and while there was no criminal prosecution, there’s a fine.

Samsung has officially announced its partnership with Best Buy, which is one of the most popular retail stores across US. The South Korean giant is all set to install more than 1,400 Experience shops in the Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile specialty stores across the US, starting from this month.

Sony’s MWC video wall of 196 Xperia ZL phones is officially a Guinness world record

Sony had an interesting video wall at the MWC earlier this year – it was made out of 196 Sony Xperia ZL phones in a 14 x 14 grid and their 1080p screens were synchronized to display one 1.9m x 1m image (6 ft 2 in by 3 ft 4 in). The team behind it said that it’s a record-breaking wall and today the Guinness book of records concurred.

The previous record was held by a setup of only 72 phones, less than half of the Xperia ZL phones used in Sony’s wall. Read more »

A special screen protector can turn your phone’s (or tablet’s) screen into a 3D display

3D phones fizzled out pretty quickly but some people won’t give up on the dream. Temasek Polytechnic and IMRE from Singapore offer a special type of screen protector that turns a regular mobile phone or tablet screen into a 3D display, regardless of its platform.

It’s based on the old lenticular glasses-free tech, but modernized with nanotechnology. The team behind the 3D screen protector is also developing tools for making 3D games and making 2D images 3D (your regular 2D camera won’t magically grow a third dimension). Read more »

Apple to have negative income growth for the first time since 2003, analysts say

For the first time since 2003 Apple might report negative income growth, according to an analyst survey conducted by CNN Fortune.

Every single analyst that took part in the survey believes Apple will report a lower income for Q2, 2013 (ending in March – the company has a shifted fiscal year) compared to the same period last year. Analyst company Thomson Financial estimates Apple’s earnings per share (EPS) for the fiscal second quarter will stand at $10.18, compared to $12.30 in Q2 2012. Read more »

Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik leaves Samsung, praises the Galaxy S4, but hates TouchWiz

Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik, the leading man behind the popular CyanogenMod, joined Samsung in mid-2011 but now, less than two years later, he left the company. He had spent some “quality time” with the new Galaxy S4 and had some words to share about it.

For one, he seems to be a fan of the device, saying in a Google+ post that it “blows the competition out of the water” and feels more solid than the Galaxy S III he loves and uses every day. What he had to say about TouchWiz was less pleasant. Read more »
