Yesterday, Apple announced the fifth generation iPad, christened the iPad Air. It’s thinner, lighter and faster than the model it replaces. The company has now released a new TV ad for it and who better to voice it than Bryan “Heisenberg” Cranston himself.

Apple announced today that the long-awaited OS X Mavericks will be available today. Even more importantly, Apple’s latest desktop OS will be available as a free download.

Introduced back in June during WWDC 2013, OS X Mavericks is a major update in comparison to its predecessor, which includes refreshed native apps, as well as look and feel which bring it close in line with the iOS 7 aesthetics. Read more »

At today’s iPad-centric Apple event, company’s CEO Tim Cook took the time to share exciting news regarding the App Store. Back in June at the WWDC, the apps in the App Store were more than 900,000 and now they’ve already passed the 1,000,000 mark.

Moreover, total number of downloaded apps is now more than 60 billion. The main rival of the App Store – the Google Play Store passed the 1 million apps mark in July, but at that point it only had 50 billion downloads accumulated. Read more »

BlackBerry has revealed on its BBM Twitter page that the BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android has received extremely warm reception. The company has seen some 5 million activations in just 8 hours after the app was launched.

Those are not just downloads, mind you, but the number of people that have activated their accounts with the app. Read more »

Exactly a month after initially releasing the app, BlackBerry resumed the rollout of the popular BBM app for iOS and Android. In order to avoid the hiccups from last month which caused BlackBerry to pause the rollout, the company has implemented a line-up system to manage the high demand.

The reservation system is based on the user entering his or her email after installing the app on his or her compatible device. Read more »

The latest Gartner report has global tablet shipments up some 42.7% compared to last year, while PC sales are predicted to be down 11.2%.

It’s predicted that by 2017, PCs – which include desktop computers, laptops, and ultramobiles – will become outshipped by tablets running primarily Android and iOS. Read more »

Remember how Apple made free a plethora of apps free for all new iPhones? Apple iPhoto, iMovie and the iWork suite (Pages, Keynote and Numbers) for iOS now cost you nothing if you upgrade your iPhone and it seems the GarageBand will soon join this list.

Apple has an event set for tomorrow, October 22, and the wall Street Journal is confirming that the stars of the show will be two new iPads – the new mini and a new version of the 9.7″ model. There might be Mac-related announcements too.

While not official, the news that the iPad mini 2 will be at the event tomorrow is slightly surprising as there were quite a few reports on the low yields of the new 7.9″ Retina display, meaning the tablet won’t make it in time for the holidays or at least won’t be widely available. Read more »

Google has issued an update for its Hangouts app on iOS. The latest version of the popular messaging service allows you to place free voice calls as long as you live in the US and Canada.

The app uses your Google Voice number for both outgoing and incoming calls. Calls outside the two countries work too, albeit for a fee. Read more »

New images of the alleged next iPad mini and iPad 5 have leaked just days before the Apple October 22 event.

The images show the iPad mini 2 next to the iPhone 5s and with another iPad lurking in the background. Notice how the home button isn’t TouchID but a vanilla one? Previous leaks suggested the iPad mini 2 will have TouchID, but this seems to put those speculations to rest. Read more »

The slo-mo videos has been kind of a big deal about the iPhone 5s since Apple announced the fella in September. The iPhone 5s indeed outputs 720p videos at 120 fps, but does it record them in 720p resolution as well? As it turns out – it does not.

A reader of ours tipped us the Apple iPhone 5s doesn’t actually capture proper 720p footage when you enable slow-motion recording and since we had already noticed that those videos have less captured detail than expected, we though a more detailed investigation was in order. It’s like they were recorded in lower resolution and then upsized to 720p. Read more »
