This one is for straight-up supergeeks with way too much cash to burn so if you don’t fit into the category you may want to skip it. Only a day old, the PureView-driven Nokia Lumia 1020 has got itself the most expensive accessory it could have asked for.

Built by Lehmann Aviation the LA300 is a drone, to which the Lumia 1020 attaches, that can fly as high as 15 kilometers (that’s about 9.3 miles for you Imperial users), for as long as 30 minutes, at speeds of 20-80 km/h (12/49 MPH) and will withstand temperatures between -25 °C up to +60 °C (-13 °F to 140 °F). Nokia Cinemagraph updated, lets you create 720p animated GIFs now

Nokia has updated its Cinemagraph camera lens app, which lets you create animated GIF right from your WP8 smartphone. The latest version of the Nokia Cinemagraph comes with support for higher-resolution 1280 x 720 pixel GIFs, which is a notable improvement over the 800 x 448 pixel animated images the app produced before .

The update also brings a crossfading transitions and a color pop feature that makes it easier to restore original colors of your images. Read more »

Vine for Android updated with capture widget

Vine, one of the popular services for creating short, looping videos to share among your social network buddies has updated its Android application. The latest version of Vine for Android comes with a host of new features along with few performance improvements and bug fixes.

Microsoft drops base Surface RT price to $349

The Surface RT tablet, which was announced last year, met with lukewarm response from customers and reviewers alike. Burdened with a fairly outdated processor and an OS with few apps, not to mention priced the same as the iPad which has neither of those issues, the Surface RT was never going to set the sales charts on fire.

Microsoft seems to have realized their mistake and intend to solve at least one of those problems, by dropping the price by a cool $150 across the board. The base 32GB Surface RT now costs $349.99 whereas the 64GB model costs $449.99. If you want to get the Touch Keyboard, you’ll have to add $100 to these prices. Read more »

The first Nokia Lumia 1020 camera samples are here

The first camera samples from the newly announced Nokia Lumia 1020 are in. Nokia published a plethora of photos in both full resolution and the 5MP oversampled mode a.k.a. PureView mode.

Nokia Lumia 1020 features a 41MP camera sensor which is capable of taking 7152 x 5368 pixels pictures in 4:3 mode (that’s 38MP effective resolution) and 7728 x 4354 in 16:9 aspect (34MP). As with the Nokia 808 PureView, those huge photos can be oversampled to 5MP, producing shots with excellent per-pixel quality. Alternatively, you can use the extra resolution for loseless zoom – you’ll be giving up on the oversampled super pixels, but you’ll be getting real 5MP resolution while zooming – something beyond the powers of any other smartphone. Nokia announces an Imaging SDK for developers, now available for download

At today’s unveiling event of the Nokia Lumia 1020 in New York, Nokia has also announced the immediate availability of a new Imaging Software Development Kit (SDK). The new SDK would give developers a “powerful code library of exciting image manipulation tools, which will make creating the next generation of imaging apps for Windows Phone 8 devices quicker and easier. ”

The intriguing bit is that the SDK can be used for developing camera/image manipulation apps not just or Lumia phones, but for any Windows Phone 8 device. Read more »

The Nokia Lumia 1020 just went live with a 41 MP PureView sensor and 6-element ZEISS lens with optical image stabilization. There’s also a slew of improvements to the Windows Phone camera package to go along with the impressive hardware.

Tizen 2.0-powered Systena tablet gets a quick hands-on

Samsung integrated its Bada OS into the Tizen OS project earlier this year and we even saw few screenshots of the brand new mobile operating system that was developed by the global market leaders. Now, the hands-images and the video of what seems to be the first Tizen powered tablet has been leaked.

Foxconn posts 2Q 2013 revenue of $30 billion, up 0.6 % YoY

Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer has posted its financial report for the second quarter of the year and surprisingly, the revenues have surpassed the estimates and the company has managed to generate $30 billion.

The second-quarter revenue of Foxconn is up by 0.6% over the same period a year ago. Foxconn saw its revenue decline by 19.2% decline in its revenue for the first quarter of 2013 due to the decline in the iPhone orders from Apple. Read more »

If This Then That service launches on iOS, lets you automate your iDevice

Google brings offline caching back to its Maps

Google Maps was updated with a refreshed UI as announced at Google I/O 2013 and the update had dropped the offline map support, which wasn’t particularly well received.

Fortunately, Google engineering team has heard the pleas and has brought back the offline caching in its new Maps app. A large “Make this map area available offline” button has been added below the search box. Read more »
