HERE Maps now available on Nokia Asha 501

Nokia has just released HERE Maps of its latest Asha 501. Nokia promised to bring us soon its mapping service to the new Asha platform during the Asha 501 announcement event and it kept its promise.

This beta version of HERE Maps is specifically designed for devices without GPS, but still offers drive, walk and public transport directions. Read more »

B&N cuts Nook HD and HD+ prices in UK, e-Ink readers discounted too

London mayor Boris Johnson, Barnes & Noble and Evening Standard are organizing the Get Reading festival, which will be held in Trafalgar Square on June 13. To get you ready, B&N cut the prices of its Android-powered (with full Play Store access) Nook HD and HD+ tablets to £99 and £149 respectively.

If you prefer e-Ink, the Nook Simple Touch GlowLight (what a name, huh?) is currently at £69 (down from £109). The non-GlowLight model can be found for £29 here or here (a few other places too). Read more »

Nokia 207 and 208 promo videos appear, are almost identical

Despite the budget nature of the Nokia 207 and 208, they get treated like any other Nokia product and as such have received promo videos of their own to accompany the launch.

In the promos, Nokia emphasizes the colors available for the duo as well as the software features they have, such as Facebook, Xpress Browser and YouTube video playback. Read more »

Alleged pricing for budget iPhone surfaces

The line of cheaper iPhones which Apple is supposedly preparing to launch alongside the iPhone 5S have leaked several times already, including this latest image below, which purports an iPhone mini name.

Besides new color schemes and more cost effective materials, the latest rumors surrounding the budget iPhone range include mass production of the models currently under way, as well as leaked pricing. Turns out budget version isn’t that cheap after all. Read more »

Latest BlackBerry Q10 ad brags about cool gesture-based UI

BlackBerry has outed a new TV advertisement for the US, promoting the touch gestures available in BlackBerry OS 10.1. The star of the show is the QWERTY-packing BlackBerry Q10, which is used to show just how much you can do in a short period of time.

The ad demonstrates that you can change your Facebook status without actually opening the social network’s app. Quickly browsing and sharing photos and other content is demoed in the TV spot as well. Read more »

Angry Birds latest update brings new 15 new levels with new gameplay

The latest episode of the original Angry Birds title is called Red’s Mighty Feathers and brings 15 new levels. Those feature new gameplay where you have to defend eggs from all the pigs trying to steal it.

These high resolution renderings give an idea of what the low-cost iPhone would look like

We have seen some leaked panels of what is allegedly the low-cost version of the iPhone that Apple is expected to announce later this year, along with the successor to the iPhone 5. The panels give a fair idea of what the device might look like but leave you wanting for a better look.

Mac Rumors probably felt the same way so they decided to go ahead and get high resolution renderings made from the images that have been leaked so far. What you see above is not real but if the leaks were authentic, this is pretty much what you can expect to see from Apple later this year. Read more »

Snapdragon 800-powered Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A gets its GPU properly tested

The Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A edition with the Snapdragon 800 chip inside is understandable getting the attention of all benchmark-loving geeks. The smartphone was already put through its paces in a couple of benchmarks last week, but today, another batch of benchmarks has surfaced showing what the Adreno 320 GPU is capable of.

The benchmarks that were used are GFX Bench 2.7, Epic Citadel, AnTuTu 3D, and 3DMark benchmark, The Wi-Fi adapter in the phone was put through some testing as well to see if supports higher speeds than its Snapdragon 600 and Octa variations. Read more »

Samsung ATIV Q priced at 1,599 Euro in Germany

German retailer Arlt briefly published a pre-order page for the Samsung ATIV Q transformer device with a price of €1,599 with shipping beginning this August.

However the page has gone missing, meaning the device was either sold out or just pulled back for other considerations. Yet, the info stayed online long enough for us to learn the pricing of the hybrid device. Read more »

The Sony Xperia Honami is expected to be Sony’s foray back into the cameraphone business and leaked software gives us a peek of what to expect. XDA-Developers member krabappel2548 has ported the camera app to the Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z.

The Sony Xperia Honami is expected to run on a Snapdragon 800 chipset and pack a 20MP camera that shoots 4K video, but the lesser sensors didn’t prevent the current crop of Xperia devices from running its camera software. Read more »

Nokia and HTC grab IDEA Gold awards for their WP8 handsets

The International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) recognized a number of gadgets from the mobile world for pushing design forward. Nokia nabbed two Gold awards, HTC got one and so did the emergency SpareOne phone (that works on a single AA battery).

Nokia scored two gold awards, one for its Lumia range – specifically the Lumia 920, 820 and 620, the first batch of Nokia’s second-gen Lumias – and one for its overall colors and materials strategy. Read more »

Microsoft to launch 256GB Surface Pro in the US for $1,199

Google Reader finally shuts down

We knew this day was coming. Google had informed us back in March that come July, the popular RSS service Google Reader would be shutting down for good. And that day has now arrived.

Starting today, the Google Reader service will no longer be available. If you have any data that you may want to recover, such as list of sites you subscribed to, starred items, notes, etc., then you can download a copy from Google before July 15, 2013. Read more »
