This rumor is proving harder to kill than most fictional characters – I’m talking about the iPad Mini rumor. It reappeared again, just days after Apple’s official announcement of the new iPad when Apple’s exec made no mentions of any such thing.

The diminutive iPad is said to have a small bezel so that it can be about the same size as 7″ Android tablets (Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, etc.), while having a slightly larger screen diagonal – 7.85″ according to chitchat. Read more »

The new iPad was announced last week with a planned launch date this Friday. Overwhelming demand has already pushed that date back, so if you haven’t pre-ordered already, the soonest you can hope to get the newest Apple tablet is March 19 (and there’s a two iPads per customer limit).

Apple’s event will start in a few short hours and the iPad 3, rumors are flying high. The name “iPad HD” is mentioned quite often as the actual name of the next-gen product and there are even some leaked shots of the box to support that.

CeBIT is underway and Acer just unveiled a new ultrabook – the Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 – along with three laptops for non-ultra users – the Aspire V3 Series. The M3 is a 15″ ultrabook and features an un-ultrabookish DVD drive. The V3 Series on the other hand come in 14″, 15.6″ and 17.3″.

The Timeline Ultra M3 measures just 20mm thick (not bad for 15″) and is made of an aluminum alloy. In the fairly thin package you get enough room for a HDD+SSD combo. You can go SSD-only if you want. Read more »

The MeeGo-running Nokia N9 is much beloved by its owners, but it seems that it wasn’t quite the Linux-powered phone that some hoped it would be. Those people like to pick and choose their software components (including stuff like kernel modules) and now they can.

Opera has long held the top spot in mobile browsers and is still highly popular (especially Mini, which is the browser of choice in developing countries). According to StatCounter its reign has come to an end, with the two popular smartphone OSes battling for first spot.

StatCounter has Android’s browser on top, but they treat iPhone and iPod as separate. Add them up and Mobile Safari climbs on top. Read more »

Nokia revamped their mapping apps for their Windows Phone handsets and added one more app to the list of Lumia-exclusive apps. Nokia Drive has gained full offline functionality and is joined by the new app, Nokia Transport, so you can navigate a city with public transport instead of a car.

Nokia Drive for Windows Phone had one big problem at launch – it couldn’t plot a route in offline mode (even if you have downloaded the map for the region). The latest update fixes that and adds other improvements. Read more »

An anonymous source has tipped off The Guardian that Apple is working on bringing HD sound quality to iTunes. This will reportedly happen through the introduction of a new file format with advanced functions.

The new audio format is said to be very flexible – it will offer both high-quality HD audio and a version with smaller size. It will also offer adaptive streaming depending on the device and the internet connections. Read more »

With all those Tegra 3 smartphones and tablets out there, people will need quality games to push those 4-PLUS-1 CPU cores and the 12-core GeForce GPU to their limits. NVIDIA has that covered as they’re debuting several new game titles at the MWC that claim to provide a console-level gaming experience.

Along with the three Android phones, ViewSonic also announced three new tablets, two droids and one Windows 7 slate. The Android tablets come in two sizes – 7″ and 9.7″, while the Atom-powered Windows 7 slate is a 10-incher.

Google updated the Docs for Android application and brought interface and formatting improvements, but most importantly the latest version features the cool real-time collaborative editing of the desktop version.

Opera Mini is still a wildly popular mobile browser no doubt, but there’s always room for growth. The newest territory that the browser has conquered is a group of Samsung feature phones.
