A year ago Mozilla announced its plans for a mobile OS based on web standards called Boot2Gecko (B2G). Then, in November last year the company showed us simple drawings of its prototype mobile OS and now it has come to this – Boot2Gecko is out for everyone to taste.

Not only that, but according to company’s CTO Brenden Eich, at this year’s Mobile Web Congress in Barcelona, Mozilla will announce some of its hardware manufacturing partners interested in building B2G running products. Read more »

Yet another Samsung Galaxy S II Android 4.0 ICS ROM escaped the Samsung R&D center and walked right into the hand of indie developers and smartphone enthusiasts. Carrying the version number I9100XXLPH, the new ROM has a build date of February 9 and, as you can expect, it is the most stable and functional ICS ROM for the Galaxy S II to date.

The LPH release is only a short step away from feeling like a polished final ROM. It’s smooth enough, it supports all of the phone’s hardware and it gets rid of the nagging “set up update” notification from previous beta releases. Read more »

An image of what is purportedly Google’s as yet unreleased cloud storage service, Google Drive, has been leaked.

Drive (as in what’s in your computer, not what you do with your car), will potentially allow you to store a certain amount of data online, with the idea that it be accessible from any location with internet access, as well as via other devices you own. Read more »

The Kindle Fire was Amazon’s first step into the tablet world, discounting the E Ink enabled Kindles before it, the Fire was a full color, 7″ Android tab rocking Silk, its cloud-supported web browser.

Now it would appear that Amazon have approached electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn as a new OEM to add to list of those charged with producing its successor, the Kindle Fire 2. Read more »

Rockstar has launched the second official Max Payne 3 trailer, which reveals a bit more about the storyline in the game. Until now the game studio only revealed a bit of the gameplay of the action title.

If you remember, in the first two parts of Max Payne, he was looking for the people who murdered his family, and he finally had his sweet revenge. Now, the story is quite different, but it could still prove very interesting. Read more »

The Android version of the popular Skype application just got an update. The messenger had its version number pumped up to 2.7.0.907 and received a few nice features to go with that.

First and foremost, the calling interface is updated and the quality of the calls is improved. The video-call support is now extended to the Samsung Epic 4G Touch and there are a few minor issues with the app resolved. Read more »

After making PC gamers wait for nearly two years, the PC version of Alan Wake is finally here. You can now download the game exclusively from Steam right now for $29.99. For that price you get the game, Collector’s Edition DLC (free until February 23rd), developer commentary videos, illustrated PDF book, and the official soundtrack for the game.

The PC version of the game promises higher quality graphics compared to the Xbox 360 version, along with full support and optimization for a keyboard and mouse layout. The graphics settings are configurable, the game is optimized for quad-core CPUs and you can now even hide the HUD for a more immersive experience. The perennial beta version of the Swype keyboard for Android has been updated to support the latest version of the operating system. The keyboard, as you may be aware, relies on swipes on the keys to enter words, along with traditional text input where you can just press individual keys. The new beta also offers the ability to install additional languages for tablets and accuracy improvements.

To test out the new beta, I installed it on my phone to see how well it works. Despite being a beta, the application was just as stable as it has ever been, with no real bugs or issues. However, there are some thing about the way the keypad works that still bugs me. Read more »

At this point we shouldn’t be more than a month and a half away from the Samsung Galaxy Note official Android 4.0 ICS update, but how about getting a little preview of what’s to come? The first ICS 4.0.3 ROM for the phoneblet just leaked and we even managed to install in on a Note we had lying around and test it.

Today Apple released a developer preview of their next desktop OS, dubbed Mountain Lion. Much like with the Leopard and Snow Leopard, the Mountain Lion is more of an improvement to the current Lion than a brand new OS but brings along some iOS features in an attempt to unify the Apple ecosystem across devices.

I’m going to break the new stuff up for you guys in order of importance so that you can get an idea of what’s to come. The developer preview is out now and Apple expects the retail version of Mountain Lion (which should be 10.8) to be available through the Mac App Store sometime this summer, probably costing the same as Lion did – $29.99. The guys at Google who are working on the Android version of Maps seem to be determined to bring down battery usage. They put out an update in early January that improved consumption in Latitude and now (about a month later) they’re back with a brand new update to do just that again.

While this release was supposedly scheduled for tomorrow, it seems like RIM will be waiting an extra 10 or so days to release the much-anticipated update at the Mobile World Congress.

The new PlayBook OS will add many new features to RIM’s proprietary OS, such as a calendar, contacts, email, as well as an Android emulator. Read more »

Adobe added Flash support for Ice Cream Sandwich a while ago but an update by the company has popped up on Android Market, claiming added compatibility with new Android 4 supported devices.

Aside from the added ICS support, Adobe claims to have added performance improvements, bug fixes and a fixed security flaw that could’ve posed a threat to your phone’s security. Read more »
