The tech company behind SlimPort unveiled a new version of the USB-enhancement called SlimPort Pro. The new standard can simultaneously transmit high-definition video (up to UHD / 2160p), 8-channel audio, USB 2.0 data (480Mbps) and power over a standard-looking 5-pin USB port.

The press release talks up docks – with smartphones becoming more powerful, a dock could connect them to both displays and peripheral devices and SlimPort Pro can do it with a single connector. Read more »

Motorola is part of a small subset of phonemakers that doesn’t take part of specification races, but focuses on delivering great value at attractive price points. As such, ever since the summer of 2011 when Google set its eyes on the company, Motorola has set its focus on the mid- and low-end of the phone spectrum and it appears things aren’t changing after the Lenovo acquisition.

In January this year Lenovo unveiled the ThinkPad 8, a Windows 8-powered tablet. Now it revealed the ThinkPad 10, you guessed it a 10″ version of the tablet. It has a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution, a quad-core Atom processor (Bay Trail) and 64-128GB of built-in storage (plus what you put in the microSD card slot).

Samsung has inked a deal with the English Football Association to be the official consumer electronics and smartphone supplier for the England’s World Cup football team.

So, all the superstars in the team along with the coaching staff will use Samsung gadgets. The company’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, will be used by all the members of the team during this year’s FIFA World Cup that will kick off on June 12. Read more »

We talked about the imminent arrival of two popular Valve titles, Portal and Half-Life 2, on the NVIDIA Shield in the past. Thankfully, NVIDIA didn’t make us wait too long and both games are now available on the Play Store.

For the three of you who still haven’t heard of either Portal or Half-Life 2, the former is a futuristic first person shooter where you primarily solve puzzles in a lab and the second is a first-person action game. Both games are ridiculously popular and for good reason. Half-Life 2 revolutionized the first person shooter genre with its terrific story, characters, gameplay and weapons. Samsung and Seagate have joined forced to create a new wireless media drive. The drive lets you store all your media content, which can then be wirelessly streamed to a mobile device or a computer.

The device has a 1.5TB hard drive that should provide plenty of space for most of your content. You can connect a mobile device running Android 2.3 and above directly to it to stream the content. You can also stream to a Windows or OS X computer. Read more »

Samsung has launched an external battery pack that has the same faux-leather design as the Galaxy Note 3. With a capacity of 6,000mAh, the battery pack is capable of charging the Galaxy S5 two times.

The Samsung EB-PG900B battery pack measures 74 x 140 x 11mm, which is quite compact. A neat feature is the built-in retractable microUSB cable used for charging. Read more »

Twitter is a great way to keep in touch with people and all that goes around in the world. But often, you may be following someone whose tweets you may not want to read on occasions but don’t want to unfollow them either. Muting, a functionality offered by many third party Twitter clients, enabled users to mute these people so that their tweets would be hidden from your timeline without their knowledge and without you having to unfollow them.

Not a lot of people use third party clients, however, and those who use the website or the official app have been asking for an official mute functionality from Twitter for a long time now. After years of requests, Twitter has finally obliged. Read more »

Gmail for Android now boasts over 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store. Gmail is the first app to reach this milestone, after Google Play Services package, which is automatically installed on every certified Android device.

The download counter reflects unique installs and not a total number of downloads, including repeats. Don’t think, however, that there are 1 billion active Android Gmail users, as there are most certainly some abandoned or duplicate accounts. Read more »

Samsung may be busy transitioning its tablet lineup to AMOLED screens and expanding it with new sizes, but it hasn’t completely forgotten about the devices it already has. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, which once was a premium mid-sized tablet is starting to receive its Android 4.4 KitKat update across the globe.

The Korean version was the first to get the boost, but only a few hours later the international version joined the fun with Poland the first market to receive it. Unless there are unexpected issues with the update, all Galaxy Note 8.0 units should follow suit shortly. Read more »

The Nokia 1020 is at the center of a new photographic project, dubbed RedBull photography. As the name suggests it involves both RedBull and its photographer Ray Demski and Nokia’s acclaimed 41 MP shooter Lumia 1020.

The photoshoot takes place on location in the Norwegian Alps and makes the Lumia 1020 face vast and bright landscapes and a contrast between golden sun and deep blue ice. Read more »

A report conducted by DisplaySearch states that Samsung was the largest supplier of iPad displays in the first quarter of the year. In spite of the ruthless legal battle between the two companies, Samsung Display shipped 5.2 million 9.7″ iPad display panels.

This accounts for 62% of the total shipment of such displays, which are used in the iPad Air and iPad 4. The other company that is handling the iPad’s display production is LG. Read more »
