Nokia has just released a new commercial about its first slate – the Lumia 2520 running on Windows 8.1 RT. It is one minute long and takes a few jabs at the Apple’s iPad.

Nokia is expanding into new categories with a tablet and two phablets, but talk from Digitimes is that Nokia will soon follow up with a new slate dubbed Nokia Lumia 2020. There’s not a lot of info available for the tablet other than that it will run Windows 8.1 RT and that it will have an 8″ screen.
Digitimes sources say the Lumia 2020 will target the mid- to high-end segment, so it most likely won’t cost $200and compete compete with the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HDX. Read more »
Toshiba’s latest Dynabook KIRA V654 has, at a glance, good but not spectacular specs. It rocks a 13-inch display of the generic 1366 x 768 resolution, no touch included, Haswell chip and a very low 1.12 kg weight. The battery life expectancy of 22 hours warrants a WOW, though.
If 14 hours will do it for you then you can opt for the V654 version with a 2560 x 1440 display, 8 gigs of RAM, 128 GB SSD and Haswell chip. Finally there’s the V834 model with a touch-enabled 2560 x 1440 screen and otherwise the same innards. Read more »
The popular news-gobbling app Flipboard is now officially available for Windows 8.1 devices, including those running the RT version of Redmond’s OS. The application is available to install from the Windows Marketplace.

Gameloft has released their latest hit game, Asphalt 8: Airborne, on two new platforms. Launched initially on iOS and Android, the game is now also available on Windows Phone 8 and even Windows 8.1.
We reviewed Asphalt 8 when it was initially released and found it to be pretty enjoyable, although in some ways, not as much as its predecessor, which is still a really fun game. Having said that, Asphalt 8 is a marked improvement in terms of visuals and should be great on Windows 8.1 with a powerful desktop GPU (it wasn’t very smooth on mobile). Read more »

Microsoft has released the latest Windows Store marketplace statistics, which show the number of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 app downloaded daily has averaged 1.7 million.
This includes both free and paid apps and show a 38.5% increase over June. The result is a total of 51.2 million apps downloaded in October alone – 15 million more than recorded in June. Read more »
The Windows 8.1 update released a new DPI framework that caused problems in games that don’t read raw mouse data. The result was significant mouse lag across several titles like Call of Duty.
Microsoft has released a hotfix that addresses the issue, and has included a list of affected games. There are also instructions on how to extend the update to other games. Read more »
According to a report in Bloomberg, Nokia’s former chief Stephen Elop has grand plans in consideration if elected as the next CEO of Microsoft. Already on the shortlist for the position, Elop is said to consider selling off the Xbox business and axing Bing.
In addition to the abovementioned changes, Stephen Elop is reportedly mulling over expanding the reach of the popular Microsoft Office to a broad variety of devices, including iOS and Android products. Read more »
Lenovo has officially taken wraps of IdeaPad Flex, a dual-mode notebook PC with a 10 point multitouch feature. Lenovo’s newest addition comes with an ability to flip 300 degrees to instantly switch between laptop and stand modes.

The world’s first 4K resolution tablet from Panasonic, which debuted at CES this year, is set to hit the US just after the holiday season this coming January.

As the Nokia Lumia 2520 enjoys its fair share of attention, a report on the company’s second Windows RT tablet made the rounds. Allegedly, an 8” Windows RT slate dubbed Nokia Illusionist is in development.

Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm has expressed his view on the latest tablets from Nokia and Microsoft. Speaking to CNET, he said that the Nokia Lumia 2520 trumps the Microsoft Surface 2 in every way possible.
That’s not too surprising, considering the Lumia 2520 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, while Microsoft’s second-gen Surface uses the Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset. Read more »
