To say that Internet Explorer has lost a step in the browser wars is a bit of an understatement; there was a point in time, not too long ago, where if you told someone you used IE to browse the web, you were mocked.

But Internet Explorer has since cleaned up its act and is a way more capable browser than it once was, and now the IE team has decided to try and get more power users on board by creating an IE Developer Channel Release. Read more »

Intel’s Braswell Atom chip to come in early 2015 alongside Broadwell K for desktops

Intel announced its upcoming Braswell SoC at the IDF conference earlier this year, set to run Windows or Android, among others, on a 14nm 64-bit architecture. We now learn that those will finally be available at the start of 2015, over 6 months from now.

Meanwhile, its Broadwell K desktop architecture, the successor of its current Haswell lineup, will also reportedly be delayed until 2015. Read more »

Ubisoft launches a plethora of trailers for Tom Clancy’s The Division

8-inch Emdoor EM-i8080 tablet runs Windows 8.1, costs just $100

Windows tablets are aggressively coming down in price, having reached the $100 / €100 mark. The Emdoor EM-i8080 packs surprisingly good specs for one Ben Franklin, but also some disappointing compromises.

The EM-i8080 has an 8″ IPS screen with 1,280 x 800 resolution and is powered by a quad-core Atom processor (Bay Trail). It even has stereo speakers. Read more »

Asus unveils four new laptops – Book V, Book T300 Chi, Book Flip and Zenbook NX500

Asus unveiled a large number of devices at the start of Computex, including four laptops – the Asus Transformer Book V, Transformer Book T300 Chi, Transformer Book Flip and Zenbook NX500. To call the Transformer Book V a “laptop” would be like calling a centaur a horse, however. Asus calls it “the world’s first five-mode, three-in-one converged laptop”.

Skype Translator does speech to speech translation in near real time

Microsoft presented a cool upcoming update to Skype called Translator – it breaks down the language barrier by serving as an interpreter. It listens to what you say and then speaks it to the other side in a language they understand, then does the same for them.

Most impressive is the speed – not quite real-time, but the translation is spoken almost as soon as you’re done talking. Read more »

Microsoft outs April 2014 app store statistics for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has published its Windows and Windows Phone Store statistics for the month of April 2014 on the Most downloaded apps by category, country and markets. The stats aim to give developers a better idea what the “app ecosystem” needs developed and what consumers are more likely to purchase.

The statistics show that the US is still Microsoft’s largest market for Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps with the former boasting more downloads. Read more »

Microsoft announces Surface Pro 3 – the 12″ tablet that aims to replace your laptop

At an event in New York City, Microsoft took the wraps off the Surface Pro 3 tablet. The slate features a 12” display with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and 3:2 aspect ratio.
