Windows 8 tablets’ pricing will drop to $200, says Intel’s CEO

The prices of the Windows 8 touch devices and laptops will soon see a price drop, according to Intel executives. The upcoming Windows 8 devices will be designed based on the Intel’s quad-core Bay Trial chipset, which will allow for far more attractive pricing.

Intel’s upcoming Bay Trail chipset is a redesign of the company’s Atom micro architecture and the newest chipset in the making is said to be the most powerful Atom processor to date. Read more »

The affordable HP Slate 7 will be available from the first days of May in UK, Germany

Announced at the MWC 2013, the HP Slate 7 is HP’s move back to the consumer tablet market. Shying away from its own webOS, the company stakes on Android, instead.

The HP Slate 7 key selling point is not its latest high-performance hardware (or software), but rather the low asking price, which in the case of the UK is £129. In the other European countries the price should hover around €149. Read more »

Alleged iPad 5 case caught in Hong Kong Electronics Fair, suggests thinner and narrower device

We’ve heard this one before. Over in Hong Kong at a booth in the local Electronics Fair resides a case that was supposedly made for an early next-generation iPad mold.

If the case is legit we can gather that the fifth generation iPad will sports a thinner and narrower body, meaning if it retains its 9.7″ Retina then we can expect slimmer bezels on each side of it, in order for it to fit the smaller footprint. Read more »

It’s been a while since the launch of the Google Nexus 10, but it’s only now that you can get an official screen cover to protect its beautiful 10″ high-resolution display.

The Book Cover, as its called, snaps onto the back of the Nexus 10 without making an unnecessarily big hump. It has a matte finish and can wake the slate when opened. Read more »

Samsung is at the forefront of Android phablets and its latest gadget is for people who want a bigger, more affordable Galaxy Note. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 just went official and we had a chance to handle one for a couple of minutes.

Unlike the Note, the Galaxy Mega does not have an S Pen but it does have the S4’s Air View so you can still perform some of the same things as you can with the S Pen. That’s not the only thing the Mega has borrowed from the S4 either. Read more »

Microsoft said to be working on a 7-inch Surface tablet

We have reported in the past that Microsoft is allegedly working on a 7-inch gaming tablet under the Xbox brand. It seems, though, there will be another 7-inch tablet from Microsoft in the near future.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is working on a 7-inch version of the Surface tablet. There are no other details available about this product at this time, including which version of Windows it would be running and what would be the specifications, pricing and release date. WSJ does say, however, that the tablet will go into mass production later this year. Read more »

Acer allegedly working on a $149 quad-core tablet

Taiwanese-based Acer has joined a growing list of manufacturers allegedly working on an iPad Mini competitor. According to a report from DigiTimes, the rumored tablet will also compete against the likes of Google Nexus 7 in terms of pricing.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 hits UK, prices start from 339 pounds

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is up for sale in the Samsung’s Experience Store in the UK’s Westfield Stratford City.

The model in question is the 16 GB Wi-Fi-only and will set you back £339 (around 400 Euro or $516). However waiting for April 15 and onward will let you purchase the slate with additional £20 voucher for Samsung’s Learning Hub, free use of Samsung’s Music Hub, two-month subscription to The Times, etc. Read more »

Samsung starts rolling out Android 4.1.2 update to Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Good news for Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus owners. According to SamMobile, Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to this tablet.

The first country to receive this update is Austria, however, other regions should be getting the updates shortly. As usual, the Jelly Bean update would bring features such as Project Butter, Google Now and several other improvements under the hood. Read more »

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 leaked so many times prior to its announcement late last month, that it’s almost yesterday’s news.

Nevertheless, we’ve been busy putting it through our gauntlet of testing, and will give you a quick look at what’s in store for you from Samsung’s latest tablet offering.

The Note 8.0 is set to compete directly with Apple’s iPad mini, and is spec’d competitively enough to do just that. It offers a (you guessed it) 8-inch screen of 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, which results in 189 ppi. It has a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos 4412 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. Read more »

Nexus 7 is now available for purchase from the Google Play Store in India

The ASUS made Nexus 7 slate has officially made its way to the Google Play Store in India. Users can currently order the 16GB version of the tablet from the freshly popped up “devices” section of the market for everything Google.
