Barnes & Noble recently cut the prices of its Nook HD tablets in the UK, but the price cuts now got extended to the US too and Amazon is fighting back with price cuts of its own Fire HD tablets (again both in the UK and in the US).

In the US the 7″ B&N Nook HD costs $129 for the 8GB version and $149 for the 16GB version. In the UK the prices are £99 and £129 respectively. Read more »

London mayor Boris Johnson, Barnes & Noble and Evening Standard are organizing the Get Reading festival, which will be held in Trafalgar Square on June 13. To get you ready, B&N cut the prices of its Android-powered (with full Play Store access) Nook HD and HD+ tablets to £99 and £149 respectively.

German retailer Arlt briefly published a pre-order page for the Samsung ATIV Q transformer device with a price of €1,599 with shipping beginning this August.

What looks to be schematics of the upcoming fifth edition of the Apple iPad have surfaced, showing it is set to inherit the visuals of the iPad mini.

In a strange turn of events, it seems an ASUS support representative revealed the specifications for the next generation Nexus 7 tablet. And all it took was asking nicely.

Someone contacted ASUS live chat support and enquired about the next generation Nexus 7 tablet and the support rep was more than willing to divulge the information. First of all, he said that the tablet is expected to release before the ending of Q2, which he says should be at the end of July (never mind that Q2 actually ends in June). Read more »

After releasing on the Google Play Store recently, the Vine app is now available on Kindle Fire. The app requires Android 4.0 and above, so can work on every version of the Kindle Fire, except for the very first model.

For those who are not aware, Vine is a new social networking service for sharing short, six second videos. It used to be known as the Instagram of videos, until recently when Instagram itself added support for videos. The Vine app for Kindle Fire is the first tablet version of the app, as it is only available on smartphones on iOS and Android. Having said that, the UI is similar to the Play Store version of the app and not really optimized for the big screen as such. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is arguably the most interesting of the latest generation Samsung slates. It’s an affordable dual-core tablet running on the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and the 1280 x 800 pixel resolution isn’t as big an issue as it is on the 10″ screen of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz is on top, of course, full of useful apps and services.

The SamsungGalaxy Tab 3 8.0 is a thinner, lighter and S-Pen-less version of the Galaxy Note 8.0. It’s cheaper too, so you may be willing to forgive the less capable chipset. Read more »

Today is certainly not a good day for the BlackBerry fans. Earlier CEO Thorsten Heins reported disappointing earnings results for the last quarter. The company did manage to increase its revenue, but it didn’t meet profit expectations, in fact its operating loss is $84 million. Because of the bad financial report the company’s stock tumbled down over 25% at time of writing.

During the financial results conference call BlackBerry delivered another portion of bad news – there will not be BlackBerry 10 update for the PlayBook slates. Read more »

At an event in Beijing, China, HP officially took the wraps off the Slate 21 Android tablet. It’s built around a 21.5″ IPS display sporting a 1920×1080 pixels resolution.

The rather oversized tablet is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chipset and runs Android 4.2.2. The extra space is further used to house a dual speakers DTS Digital Theater Systems setup. Read more »
