Microsoft is on a roll with all the iOS apps. After Kinectimals and One Note, Microsoft is now following them with an official SkyDrive app for iOS and their own Windows Phone. Android, as usual, has been given the cold shoulder.

Nokia has just announced that they have made the beta version of their Live View app available to their MeeGo smartphone, Nokia N9. The augmented reality app was so far only available for Symbian devices, but it obviously gathered enough interest to warrant its porting to Qt.

As you know Qt apps are compatible with both MeeGo and Symbian and allow easy porting of apps between the platforms. One can’t help but wonder, though, why didn’t the Nokia software engineers write the app for Qt from the beginning. Read more »

After the desktop version of Windows, Android has quickly become the second best place to party for all the malware and Trojan app creators of the world, undoubtedly aided by the popularity and open nature of the platform. 22 of such Trojan apps were discovered at once by a company called Lookout Mobile Security, who then quickly informed Google about them.

These 22 apps, called RuFraud, disguised themselves as wallpaper apps, horoscopes and games. Once installed, they would send unsolicited SMSes to a certain paid toll number, from where the fraudsters get their money and which will then be charged to the user’s monthly bill. Read more »

The Skype app for Android has received an update and the big new feature is the ability to send photos, videos and files across to your contacts.

Skype has also made the auto sign-in and sign-out easier, improved the look and feel of the app, added voicemail improvements and improved the video quality on Tegra 2 devices. Read more »

Gameloft has come up with an interesting promotion for their Facebook page. The famous software development studio will give away four of its titles for free, when it collects enough likes on the event’s dedicated page.

iPhone users have been using One Note on their phones for a while now but with the latest 1.3 update Microsoft has also released a special version for the iPad.

The new version brings features like tabbed user interface, table rendering, improved Windows Live sign-in experience, integrated upgrade option and many more The iPad version features a new UI that takes advantage of the bigger display. You can have text, bullets and add pictures from your photo gallery and the notes are synced with your SkyDrive account and can be accessed through One Note on other platforms. Read more »

For something that they claimed to have stopped developing, Adobe sure is finding it hard to let go of the Flash Player for mobile. After their announcement last month to cease its development they released another update soon afterwards and now we have another one sitting in our Market app.

According to the release notes on the latest v11.1.111.5, it brings performance updates and bug fixes. Delving a little deeper on the Adobe website reveals that the update fixes the video streaming issue on the Samsung Galaxy S II, enables 1080p video playback for Nvidia Tegra 3-based devices and video playback fixes for video decoding. Microsoft has just added some improvements to its SkyDrive service, making it play nice with 3rd party apps. SkyDrive, which is one of the key selling points of Windows Phone platform, now grants non-Microsoft apps full access to SkyDrive, allowing them to upload and share all kinds of files.

This should allow the development of much richer WP apps that don’t take a lot of space. And since the Microsoft platform refuses to allow user replacement of the microSD cards (where available), storage is quite valuable there. Read more »

After mocking iPhone fans in general and then returning to tout the 4G LTE feature of its Galaxy S II smartphone, Samsung is back again with the third installment of what is now clearly a series of ads.

In the latest ad Samsung talks about the iPhone users sticking to iPhones for the fear of ‘giving up’ all their music and movies whereas Galaxy S II owners have nothing to worry about because all of their music comes from the cloud and that they have tons of other places to download their movies from. Flipboard is a digital magazine-like application that combines all of your Facebook, Twitter, website news, articles, photos and more into one live feed for simple (and gorgeous) browsing from one dedicated place. It used to be an iPad exclusive up until the other day when Flipboard launched a version for the iPhone too and we thought we’d take it for a spin and do a little impromptu review of it.

Once the app launched yesterday things went seriously wrong and Flipboard’s servers were overwhelmed by the incredible demand. Today Flipboard updated the app and things started working again. Microsoft began rolling out the latest dashboard update for Xbox 360 consoles everywhere yesterday, bringing a new look and a number of new features to the platform.

As well as the metro-style UI, Kinect support for controlling the dash and voice search powered by Bing, the update coincides with simultaneous launches of companion apps for both iOS and Windows Phone. Read more »

The highly anticipated update to the Android version of the Facebook app has finally hit the Android Market. With this new update, Facebook has introduced a new UI that should make your life a lot easier.

For starters there is now a bar at the top with that, just like the Facebook website, which gives you quick access to your friends requests, messages and notifications. You even get real time push notifications now. Another new feature is a left-hand menu that slides in from the side to give you quick access to your favorites, lists and the search bar. Read more »

Hot on the heels of the update for the iOS version, Google has now upgraded the Android version of the Google+ app. Among the most noticeable changes is a new red icon, which is now the same as the favicon for the Google+ website.

Although the future of the platform is still up in the air it seems HP intends to take care of webOS and its users for time being. According to PreCentral.net, HP has seeded the webOS 3.0.5 update to members of the Early Access Program, just two months after the 3.0.4 update was released to users.

Like the previous updates, 3.0.5 concentrates mostly on fixing bugs in the OS. Read more »
