Android is closer to iOS in mobile browsing than ever

Android is the undisputed leader in global smartphone shipments with iOS a distant second but when it comes to mobile browsing iOS is king and has been for some time now, despite Android’s overwhelming lead in number of active devices and users.

But things are changing with Android rapidly closing the gap behind iOS and now sitting just 1.86 percentage points behind Apple’s OS. The trend of Android catching up and finally surpassing iOS is nothing new – Android had less apps but finally caught up and surpassed Apple, Google Play is also closing-in in terms of revenue from apps. HTC One Max and Oppo Find 7 get CyanogenMod support

The HTC One Max phablet and the newly released Oppo Find 7 with QHD display are the latest devices to get official CyanogenMod support. Their proper CM11 builds are already available for download.

Samsung Gear Live availability expanded, teardown reveals Snapdragon 400 chip

Samsung Gear Live is the company’s first smartwatch based on Android Wear OS. It is available via the Google Play Store and will ship on July 11.

Google has expanded the Gear Live availability into three more countries today. The full list of markets to get the Gear Live includes Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, United States. LG outs four hilarious ads focusing on G3′s Knock Code

LG G3 launched four commercials advertising the company’s proprietary Knock Code. They tell about a family squabble that started after a woman succeeds unlocking the secure-locked Galaxy S5 of her significant other.

Nvidia promises Android L update for the Tegra Note 7

Nividia spokesperson has confirmed to Fudzilla that the company’s Tegra Note 7 tablet unveiled back in February is definitely going to receive an update to Android L.

The Tegra Note 7 is powered by the Tegra 4 chipset and came with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Currently, the tablet is updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but no exact date has been provided as to when the update to L might come. Read more »

Doutzen Kroes promotes the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear Fit in a pool

Samsung has launched a new advertising campaign in the Netherlands today, and the Korean company is using well known Dutch model Doutzen Kroes to get its point across.

The model stars in a photo shoot in a pool, where she’s seen using the Galaxy S5 smartphone as well as the Gear Fit wristband. Both of these are water resistant, so that’s not out of the ordinary. Read more »

Gionee is the latest company to make fun of the Samsung Galaxy S5

The Chinese smartphone maker has outed a TV commercial for its insanely slim Elife S5.5 in India, and in it the Galaxy S5′s plastic build comes up. And not in a positive way. Read more »

OnePlus One is the first smartphone to record in DCI 4K, check it out in action

4K video recording has started to become a staple feature of all the flagship Android smartphone these days. But the version of 4K that these phones record in is the UHD resolution, or the ones used by 4K televisions, and is exactly four times the resolution of full HD.

But there is another version of 4K and that is DCI 4K, which is what the professional cinema cameras use while recording in 4K. The difference here is the added width; whereas UHD is 3840×2160, DCI 4K is 4096×2160. But while several smartphones record in UHD, the OnePlus One is the first to record in DCI 4K. Read more »

OnePlus One hands-on

The OnePlus One is finally here after some delays that could have potentially ruined the occasion. Thankfully those delays didn’t last as long as we feared so without further ado here goes the One.

Sharing a name with a popular HTC handset we know the OnePlus One has some proving to do but covers the right basics as a start. For one it brings a capable Snapdragon 801 chipset, a 5.5″ 1080p display and a 4K-enabled 13 MP snapper. Adding to a good foundation the One could also be the Nexus fan’s dream come true with a tailor-made CyanogenMod 11 OS for a clean, near-stock Android KitKat 4.4.2 experience. Read more »

Jolla Launcher unofficially ported to Android 4.2

Jolla released an alpha version of its Android launcher for testing but you need to sign up to gain access and it only works on Android 4.3. As can be expected, the XDA-developers forums already have the original APK plus a version for Android 4.2.

The in-depth review of the Gionee Elife S5.5 is live on our home page, and as usual we are now going to share the battery life breakdown with you.

The Gionee Elife S5.5 is running on a MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core chipset with eight Cortex-A7 cores, aging Mali-450MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The phone uses the same 5″ 1080p Super AMOLED screen as the Galaxy S4 last year. We didn’t know what to expect as we haven’t tested this particular combo yet. Read more »
