Sony Tablet S and Tablet P to be updated to Android 4.0 ICS according to mod in Sony’s forum

by 5 comments

New reports suggest that Sony is already testing ICS on their two Android tablets and that the public release of the update should coincide with the release of the update for the company’s now wholly owned Xperia lineup some time in April.

Sony is also allegedly preparing “some really cool unique bits” to spice up the Android 4.0 for its tablet devices, but we can only guess.

A new unofficial ROM lets you taste the MIUI flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich on your Galaxy S II

by 14 comments

Those of you that are eager to take Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for a spin on their Samsung Galaxy S II just got another option. In addition to flashing the leaked Samsung beta ICS ROM (which we tried), you can now try the ICS-based latest version of the MIUI ROM.

The unofficial release is said to be quite stable and ready to do the job as your everyday ROM. Of course, MIUI comes with a heavily customized interface, so if you are a fan of the stock ICS looks you probably don’t need to bother with this one. Read more »

Samsung keeps the ad war going – adds two more videos to its arsenal

by 82 comments

Samsung continued its controversial (but admittedly rather funny) promo campaign of the Galaxy S II with a couple of new videos.

Just like the previous ads that we covered, these two take a dig at the die-hard Apple fans, who seem to be so detached from the world, that they would prefer spending hours in queues and even camping in front of the store, instead of getting an obviously superior product like the Galaxy S II. Kinect-powered hack lets you you use a projector to make a huge touchscreen for your Galaxy Nexus [VIDEO]

by 14 comments

One of the cool things about Android is that allows talented devs to create amazing things – like creating a huge touchscreen of sorts (using a projector) driven by a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that takes input from a Microsoft Kinect.

The result lets you interact with your phone through the projection screen just as if you were touching the phone’s own screen. Here’s the setup in action: Read more »

Motorola launches DROID RAZR MAXX promo video, promises all-day, all-night battery life with 4G [VIDEO]

by 27 comments

4G phones are (in)famous for their less than stellar battery life. Motorola seems to understand this very well, which is why they announced the DROID RAZR MAXX at the CES with a massive 3,300 mAh built-in battery.

Now they have launched a new promo video, that boasts about this outrageous battery capacity. Motorola is promising the longest battery life on any 4G LTE smartphone, that will supposedly last all-day, all-night. Motorola is also taking a jab at other smartphones in the video that die an untimely death when their battery runs out. Just curious though, Motorola, do these other phones include your own as well?

Anyway, enough talk. You can find the video below. Read more »

by 31 comments

It’s no secret to anyone that no device is perfect and the Transformer Prime doesn’t make an exception. Shortly after its release it got clear that some Prime tablets carried a faulty GPS.

Unofficial Counter-Strike port hits Android devices, join in the action [VIDEO]

by 29 comments

I can’t believe I am writing this – Counter-Strike has gone mobile. Yes, one of the most played and famous multiplayer first-person shooters is undergoing serious development for Android devices.

The games comes courtesy of the devs over at XDA. Currently, they are working on two versions – 5o (that’s five-oh), which runs on Android 2.0+ devices and 6p, which is for Android 2.3+ devices and looks a lot like Counter-Strike 1.6. Read more »

CyanogenMod to launch its own application store, to feature apps removed from the Android Market

by 30 comments

CyanogenMod is working on releasing their very own application store for Android. The idea was originally by one of CyanogenMod team members Koushik Dutta, who wanted to create an application store that would host applications that were removed from Android Market for some reason. This would include stuff like one click root apps, game emulators, tether apps, visual voicemail apps, etc. Although Google’s Market is open, some of these apps do get removed from time to time when they don’t meet Google’s or the carrier’s terms and conditions.

The other reason to have their own application store is so that they could use a small portion of the money coming in from app sales to fund the CyanogenMod project, which has been made available to users for no cost at all. Read more »

Notion Ink Adam II to come with Ice Cream Sandwich, Texas Instruments processor

by 30 comments

The first Adam was an ambitious product from the India-based Notion Ink but was plagued with issues even before it started shipping and when eventually it did ship, the less than stellar performance meant that few actually bothered to purchase it resulting in what is possibly one of the biggest failures in the tablet segment.

But it seems Notion Ink isn’t going to let the lack of success of its first tablet leave this burgeoning segment. So now there is going to be an Adam II, which was rumored for a while now but has now been officially confirmed by the company. Read more »

Motorola building classrooms of the 21 century, shows uncanny Apple-styled video too

by 49 comments

Motorola has outed an article and video on building classrooms of the 21 century, where focus falls on using the Xoom tablet as an interactive tool for teaching and learning.

Now that, normally, would be all fine and good but the problem lies with the fact that Motorola, sly as they are, have released the video and article on the same day that Apple had their textbook-centric event in New York (touche!) Read more »

Motorola has started rolling out an OTA Ice Cream Sandwich software update to its Xoom Wi-Fi tablet but sadly only users in the US can take advantage so far.

ASUS tries to fix the GPS issues on Transformer Prime

by 6 comments

Transformer Prime users suffering from GPS issues can now hopefully get some help. We say hopefully, because the latest OTA bugfix update is leaving many users still suffering from GPS woes (and unrooted, among other things).

This is understandable, since even ASUS admitted that the all-aluminum back panel was causing connectivity issues, and therefore software fixes might not be enough. Read more »

by 8 comments

When the whole Carrier IQ fiasco happened, Sprint was found to be one of the key offenders who sneaked in Carrier IQ software in their phones. After they were caught in the act, they promised to remove the offending software from their devices soon.

The first Sprint phone to be relieved of its Carrier IQ duties was the HTC EVO 3D through a firmware update and also added some security enhancements and bug fixes along the way. Now three more Sprint devices have joined the Anti-Carrier IQ squad. These include the HTC EVO 4G, the EVO Design 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G. Read more »

Guys, meet the Samsung Galaxy R I9103, a value-oriented version of the Galaxy S II. But don’t rush into thinking that being cheaper than its bigger brother makes the I9103 a tripped horse.
