Samsung turns ‘The Next Big Thing’ ad series into a Super Bowl ad for the Galaxy Note [VIDEO]

by 70 comments

Continuing its ongoing ‘The Next Big Thing’ series of ads designed to ruthlessly mock the iPhone-line-waiters comes what seems to be the final chapter. But this is no ordinary ad, it is the Super Bowl ad, which is a pretty big deal in the US as millions of people watch these games.

So is the ad any good? Well, I’ll leave that for you to decide. This time, however, Samsung is using it to advertise the Galaxy Note instead of the Galaxy S II. I’m using the term ‘advertise’ loosely here because you barely see what the phone is capable of in it. Then again, that hardly seemed to be the point of these ads to begin with. You can check out the ad for yourself after the break. Read more »

Motorola sold several refurbished Xooms with previous owner’s data intact

by 40 comments

In a rather embarrassing blunder, Motorola has admitted to selling refurbished Xooms to new owners without wiping the data off of them, left there by their previous owners. The ‘affected’ devices include those that were resold through Woot.com between October and December 2011. This includes about a 100 devices out of the total 6200 devices resold by Motorola so far.

To make up for this gaffe, Motorola will give previous owners of the affected tablets a complimentary two-year membership of Experian’s ProtectMyID Alert to mitigate any risks. This applies to those who returned their Xooms between March and October 2011. Those who bought these refurbished devices will be getting a $100 American Express gift card. All you have to do is ship the device back to Motorola (they’ll pay for it) and then they will wipe it clean for you and send it back. Read more »

This is not the Galaxy S II Plus you’re looking for

by 21 comments

Today our inbox was flooded with tips about a leaked image of what is supposedly a new Galaxy phone, namely the Galaxy S II Plus. Upon closer inspection, we can see some telltale signs of photo manipulation which lead us to believe that the image is most likely fake.

The photo, originally published on mobile-review.com editor-in-chief Elder Murtazin’s twitter page, shows some blatant inconsistencies with what we know about the upcoming ICS TouchWiz interface, among other things. Read more »

An Android-powered phone made of bamboo is light, eco-friendly

by 52 comments

Here’s an interesting phone designed by a 23 year-old student at Middlesex University – an Android-powered smartphone, whose body is made of a single piece of bamboo. It’s a unibody that Kieron-Scott Woodhouse, the designer, claims is as strong as plastic, but is eco-friendly and is twice as light as an iPhone.

Woodhouse is working for a Chinese company called ADzero that will make the phone – the bamboo phone won’t suffer the fate of most beautiful concepts that never make it into the hands of consumers. Read more »

A shiny white Samsung Galaxy Note pays us a visit [HANDS-ON]

by 40 comments

The white color Galaxy Note has been an elusive bird and it’s rarely been sighted. We finally have one and we’ve prepared a bunch of photos for you.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note back in October, but it launched only a black version of the unique phoneblet, as we like to call it internally. Just before Christmas though, the Galaxy Note appeared in snow white dress in Korea and a few other markets.

A few days ago the white Galaxy Note hit the UK and other European markets, AT&T US is also launching both the black and white Notes next month.
