Huawei inks a sponsorship deal with AC Milan football club

Huawei joined the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony, and HTC in being a football sponsor. The Chinese giant inked a deal with the storied Italian football team AC Milan to become its premium sponsor.

Apple has sold over 170 million iPads to date

Right before the announcement of the latest generation of its slate, Apple announced that it has sold 170 million iPads to date. The number is quite impressive considering the tablet debuted only in 2010.

The iPad in all its incarnations accounts for 81% of the tablet usage today according to data presented by Apple. Its unclear where the data is coming from as it sharply contrasts recent market analyses. Read more »

Apple OS X Mavericks is now available as a free upgrade

Apple announced today that the long-awaited OS X Mavericks will be available today. Even more importantly, Apple’s latest desktop OS will be available as a free download.

Introduced back in June during WWDC 2013, OS X Mavericks is a major update in comparison to its predecessor, which includes refreshed native apps, as well as look and feel which bring it close in line with the iOS 7 aesthetics. Read more »

BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android rollout resumes

Exactly a month after initially releasing the app, BlackBerry resumed the rollout of the popular BBM app for iOS and Android. In order to avoid the hiccups from last month which caused BlackBerry to pause the rollout, the company has implemented a line-up system to manage the high demand.

Seven-inch Amazon Kindle Fire HDX shipments kick off today

Amazon announced that the 7” Kindle Fire HDX tablet is now shipping. The Wi-Fi-only models are the ones available for the time being. LTE-capable slates will be shipping on November 14.

Pricing of the Android tablet starts at $229 for a 16GB Wi-Fi version with ads on the lockscreen, and tops out at $324 for a 64GB device with no ads. Read more »

HTC One max fingerprint collection method gets detailed by the manufacturer

HTC detailed the fingerprint collection method of the freshly announced One max phablet. In a fashion, similar to Apple’s solution in the iPhone 5s, the Taiwanese manufacturer stores the fingerprint data in the device’s local memory.

When in local memory, the fingerprint data is stored and encrypted in the system partition which cannot be easily accessed or copied. Read more »
