Skype for Android got the video calling feature just two days ago but there were only four handset that could use it: the Samsung Nexus S, HTC Desire S and Sony Ericsson’s Xperia pro and Xperia neo devices.

Well thanks to some hardworking hackers the reach of the Skype video-calls has been greatly extended. You can now enable the feature on the Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Droid Charge, HTC EVO 3D, HTC Sensation and the HTC Thunderbolt plus potentially some other smartphones. Read more »

A popular joke has it that Microsoft’s default browser best feature is that it allows you to download a rival browser. But the fact is that IE is still the most popular browser worldwide and one that Microsoft is dead set on pushing to all of its devices – PCs, tablets and WP7 smartphones.

So the release of the second platform preview of Internet Explorer 10 should still be pretty good news. Meant mainly for developers those platform previews are hardly anything to download and use on your PC, but they are a good indication that a release is nearing. One of the most important parts of Windows Phone 7, its Facebook app, just got an update. Version 2.0 of Facebook finally brings some push notification magic to SNS addicts in the WP7 crowd.

Those are shown as toast notifications (or banners in the top of the device like a pop-up) and live tiles. You can set to be notified for a message, wall post, feed comment, when somebody tags you in a photo, comments on a photo of you, etc. So it’s now a fully functioning Facebook app, save for the missing Facebook chat feature. The Opera browser has received yet another update – version 11.5. Bringing performance updates, widgets for the Speed Dial (like weather), as well as improvements to the Opera Link sync service.

The new “live” Speed Dial means that widgets can be placed where only webpages used to be. So now you can, for example, place a weather widget on a Speed Dial window and it will display weather information for a city of your choice with hourly updates. Read more »

Lawrence Hryb (or just Larry as most know him), the Director of programming for the Microsoft gaming network – Xbox Live, has just announced via Twitter that Angry Birds is available for WP7 users over at the Marketplace.

You may have never heard of Nokia Shorts, and no it’s not some dirty euphemism for underwear. It’s actually a creative contest for film-making for artists, armed with the world’s current camera-phone top dog the Nokia N8.

The winner is a chap, named James W Griffiths, who made a split-screen video showing us two different points of view of two people, living in different cities. The N9 continues to top the worldwide charts for most interesting handset of the month and that’s the way Nokia made it. We waited for the first MeeGo device for nearly two years and now that it’s finally official we can’t keep off it. It’s made to blend in top notch design and innovative build quality with a “fresh out the oven” OS with Nokia’s knowhow of craftsmanship and technology all into one device. A powerful combo indeed.

Now the official Nokia blog – Conversations, is dedicating an article to the new browser of the N9, detailing how it works, how it feels, how it scores and what were the ideas behind it. Nokia-appointed “browser guru” Christian Sejersen shares that the N9′s Meego browser was designed with the idea not to annoy its users and keep out of the way while they are browsing. The start of the week brought some great news to the Acer Iconia Tab A500 users around the globe. The Honeycomb 3.1 update has just surfaced and those brave enough to try a manual flash might get it right away.

The update is the real deal, meaning an official Acer update, which just burst out ahead of its time. It could all be on purpose to test if there are any problems with it but as usual with such updates – those willing to risk it and try it sooner rather than later are in no short supply. Read more »

ASUS is on track to releasing the second generation Eee Pad Transformer late this year, probably some time in October. The tablet-slash-notebook will probably pack the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, which is said to feature a quad-core monster of a CPU. Reportedly the company is also releasing a second Padfone with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and making available the Eee Pad Slider and a 7″ Eee Pad MeMO tablet with 3D support this year.

The next Transformer crossover between a tablet and a netbook will offer the Tegra 3 chipset, rumored to be the 5x faster than Tegra 2 Kal-El. The HTC Flyer is the first ever true tablet to come out of the HTC portfolio (those humongous Advantage things don’t count). It looks very cool and sleek in its white-slash-aluminum casing and feels very solid in your hands.

When you unlock this bad boy, you are greeted by the awesome HTC Sense 3.0, popping up on a 7-incher and it really lights up the entire experience compared to the smaller smartphone screens. Some might argue that offering only a phone-optimized Gingerbread instead of the tablet-in-mind Honeycomb OS is a bad thing but this has allowed HTC to bring the proper Sense feel to the Flyer. This latest Samsung ad that I am about to show you is pretty cool and miles ahead of the last one, which practically was a total fail. You know, the one with the Tron crowd running into a single and a dual tunnel, showcasing the direct effects of dual-core power – with the Durex ad styling but worse?

Yeah, that one. Well this new one is way cooler and shows a young man doing incredible stuff with his hands and prompts us to “unleash” our own.

It seems as though Facebook is in the making of a new app for iOS with some photo-sharing capabilities. Everyone who has used Facebook on his/hers iOS device knows that uploading a picture to the social network takes some extra unnecessary steps. Well this new super-secret app will supposedly give all of us the cure.

The guys over at TechCrunch are in possession of 50MB worth of insider photos and docs on this secret project and have kindly shared one with the world. That would be the one below. The Nokia X7-00 is here and we’ve prepared a video and a couple of pictures for you guys to enjoy. It has a very interesting (not to mention geekishly charming) design and most importantly, it features the latest version of Symbian – Anna.

We’ve already seen Symbian Anna in action on the E6 messenger phone. It even came in touchscreen fashion but on the much smaller 2.46″ landscape display. Now that the OS has ample 4″ screen real estate to work with, it can give its best. Read more »

The talk of the day is still Apple’s keynote and the unveiling of iOS 5. It brought along many changes, most of which good ones but this geek can’t help but wonder – weren’t those things already available?

Much like some old iPhone ads by Apple itself, when somebody asked me how can I enable SMS delivery reports (you know as a joke that the iPhone can’t) I’d say – “There’s an app for that”. I used to say this about many things – like the missing DivX and XviD support too. And there is an app for most things we’d want to do with our iPhones. The Google Chrome web browser got a new stable release – version 12 – which brings along a safer browsing experience and faster graphic performance.

The Chrome browser got safer with the enhancements added to its Safe Browsing technology. It will warn you if you’re about to enter a site with malicious content or a phishing site (a site, which tricks you into sharing personal and secure information) and will also warn you while trying to download malware.
