The next iPhone is maybe only days away from an official launch (here’s hoping) and the hype levels are through the roof. That’s why even minor news, concerning the upcoming Apple smartphone are greeted with quite a lot of excitement. Like this one – you might be a few seconds away from seeing the first photo captured with the iPhone 5.

The photo EXIF says that it has been created with an iPhone 4, but its resolution is 2235×2291 (around 5.12 megapixels), which is more than the iPhone 4 can capture. Plus the rectangular aspect suggests that the image has been cropped, possibly from a 3264×2448 pixels original -8 megapixels. The other clue is the lens specs, which are listed in the EXIF file as 4.3mm f/2.4, which is not even close to the current iPhone’s 3.85mm f/2.8. Read more »

The Sony Ericsson Nozomi is still happily living in rumorland, but we keep getting more information about it. The latest bit of online gossip has it that the future Sony Ericsson flagship will feature a dual-core processor -and one that’s clocked at 1.5GHz. Previous rumors suggested otherwise, but the new CPU seems more worthy of a flagship device.

The rest of the Nozomi specs include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.3″ 1280×720 resolution display with the amazing 342 ppi (pixels per inch), which is more than the one on the Retina display, 12 MP camera, 1 gig or RAM, a 1750 mAh battery and a microSIM slot. Read more »

The HTC Jetstream is now official and heading to AT&T with LTE connectivity, 10.1″ screen, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1 gig of RAM, 8 MP camera on its back and HTC Sense on top of its Android Honeycomb OS. It’s a very appealing slate by any standards. But it’s steep – prices start from $699.99 on a two-year deal.

Toshiba has announced the AT200 (Excite), which is reportedly the thinnest and lightest 10.1″ Honeycomb slate to date. It’s just 7.7 mm thick (the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 8.6 mm) and weighs only 558 g (565 g for the Galaxy slab).

Among the other specs is Android Honeycomb 3.2, a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor, 1 GB worth of RAM and up to 64 GB of internal storage. Read more »

Sony went ahead and announced their two slates, previously dubbed S1 and S2. The two Honeycomb tablets are now called (officially) the Tablet S and Tablet P.

The Tablet S is a 9.4-incher and runs on Android Honeycomb 3.1, a dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and has a display resolution of 1280×800 pixels. It should launch in the US in September for $499.99 for the 16GB version and $599.99 for the 32GB one. The Tablet S will only offer Wi-Fi versions for now. Read more »

The Dolphin browser is among the most popular mobile browsers out there and now it’s available on the iPhone. If offers a special finger-drawn gestures feature so that you can easily and quickly go to a specified page (your blog, Google, Facebook, etc.), scroll up or down, and more.

The gesture system offers you preset gestures (hand-drawn – like letters, numbers, symbols, etc.) or you can opt to create custom ones. Creating your own custom gestures, however, is a bit dodgy as the browser mistakes what you’re drawing to be something only remotely similar to it and would make you erase the preset, instead of creating a new gesture. The HP TouchPad is due for a comeback – well, sort of. HP will produce “one last run of TouchPads” to meet the unfulfilled demand.

Since HP introduced the price drop of the 16GB and 32GB versions to $99 and $149 respectively the interest in the tablet has risen so much that it actually scored the second spot as the hottest slate around after Apple’s iPad. Read more »

Samsung will showcase a revamped version of its Galaxy S II with LTE support and more, and it’s due to be unveiled next week at the IFA 2011 expo in Berlin. It will also launch a new version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 slate, which could land in just three days on August 29th at an event held in New York.

The Galaxy S II will have a bigger 4.5″ SuperAMOLED Plus display, a multi-mode LTE/WCDMA/GSM radio inside, NFC, a slightly beefier 1850mAh battery and finally, a snappier 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Sounds a little like a Galaxy S II Plus, doesn’t it? Specs aside, it will feature a revamped back panel, which is quoted to look made out of brushed aluminum. Read more »

The PlayBook OS version 2.0.0.2992 has leaked in screenshots form and the screens show the Playbook’s new email client suspiciously lacks an option for setting it up with a BlackBerry BES and BIS account. Also there’s an Android Emulator icon in the main menu, which means that the compatibility project between droid apps and QNX may be late but is still coming.

The accounts screen in the settings menu shows the available options to configure an email account. They include Exchange/ActiveSync, IMAP, POP, CalDAV, CardDAV, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn but there’s no BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) or BlackBerry Internet Server (BIS) on there. This could mean that QNX is on track to join the other smart OSes and use the same integrated email, calendar and contacts sync options. Read more »

It seems that HTC’s first 10.1 Honeycomb slate, dubbed Puccini or Jetstream, is all but confirmed for an appearance on the AT&T network with true 4G capabilities – yes, LTE support.

Fresh images of the device have leaked and this time we can really have a proper look at it. Also the some of the specs have been revealed like the 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1 gig of RAM, 16GB on-board storage, an 8 MP snapper with dual-LED flash, LTE support, a 10.1″ WXGA resolution (1280×800) and finally a Sensed-out Android Honeycomb OS. Lenovo have put up their Honeycomb-wearing ThinkPad slate for sale on their website with prices starting from $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version and $569/$669 for the 32GB/64GB Wi-Fi versions. A 3G-enabled ThinkPad will be available in October.

The previously-leaked ThinkPad is dubbed the “do anything, anywhere, anytime tablet” a business-minded device and offers password-protected network access, corporate email and full-device and SD card encryption. Read more »

Samsung has released a second video teaser for the IFA trade show for consumer electronics, which teases viewers with waves and the laconic punch line – “Something Big is Coming”.

Now we can’t ignore the clever sneaked-in waves or the fact that “bada” in Korean means ocean or sea. The teaser obviously hints at the newest Wave flagship – the rumored Samsung S8600 Wave III. Read more »
