There is little doubt that the BlackBerry PlayBook is the most anticipated product to come from RIM in a long time. After all, the initial announcement was almost seven months ago – which is a hefty amount of time in the rapidly changing mobile technology world.
Back in September, 2010, the freshly announced PlayBook appeared to have all the muscle necessary to carve its spot in the market for tablets. It was the first tablet offering with a dual-core processor. The latter, coupled with 1 GB of RAM seemed like a certain recipe for success. It was hardly a surprise when the PlayBook trounced the original iPad in a browser comparison – the RIM product simply had better hardware. Read more »
The Samsung Galaxy Pro B7510 has just been released on the market and we were more than surprised to see it get this snow white color version. It looks even cooler than in gray.
Hot on the heels of the iPhone 4′s eventual appearance in a new white suit, Samsung have similarly coated one of their latest portrait QWERTY’s in a slick coat of paint. The Samsung Pro now appears officially on an official Samsung site in a classy new white number. Great news for the fashion conscious text-a-holics, or the business man or woman after a different, whiter, brighter look among you. Read more »
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is just around the corner and it has already more than proven itself as the next-gen smartphone. How about seeing it get unboxed in a bunch of extreme situations? Yup, it’s the greatest thing to be captured on film since extreme ironing (yes, that’s real too).
Smartphones just don’t get any more extravagant than the Sprint-bound Kyocera Echo these days. We got to spend some quality time with the dual-screened Android smartphone at a New York event and we thought you might be interested to know what our first impressions are.
With the dual-screen concept so extravagant, we too were pretty curious if there’s a niche for such devices. In theory the two 3.5” WVGA screens that form a common 4.7 UI pane with a resolution of 800 x 960 sounds pretty exciting. The second-gen Snapdragon inside also feels quite nice, though it doesn’t sound as groundbreaking as the display. Naturally we feel a dual-core CPU would have suited the dual screen UI better, but things aren’t looking too bad now either. Read more »
Qwiki is a visual Wikipedia with quite stunning graphics, voice over and subtitles. It uses clever algorithms to mix articles with pictures, maps and infographics to make dynamic, hyperlinked presentation.
As a big fan of Flipboard for the iPad, the first reports on the multimedia rich Qwiki got me hooked right away. I was misled though, Qwiki is no Flipboard, in fact the only similarity between the two apps is the original idea behind them. Yeah, and that both are free.
However Qwiki is an interesting application on its own and you should definitely check out this video. Read more »
It seems Apple had considered the Facebook integration within the iOS 4 until it came up with another idea – its own Media Stream.

“Join the hunt for Golden Eggs!” is Rovio’s slogan appearing in the latest Angry Birds Season commercial. There are golden eggs, Indiana Jones styled font, a really angry bird and… a space shuttle.
Finally, the HTC Sensation 4G (that’s the US version of the European Sensation) just got a specific launch date – 8 June.
The HTC Sensation 4G for T-Mobile US had a rather broad launch window (“summer”) but a Google AdWord pinpoints 8 June as the exact launch date. Read more »
The launch date for the Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II got moved around quite a bit but, for the UK at least, it has finally settled to 27 April from Phones 4u. If you pre-order sooner, you can score a free 8GB microSD card too.
It was set for an UK launch in May but Phones 4u are quite eager and will be releasing it on 27 April. Read more »
Who said fixed-focus cameras aren’t fit for proper shooting? Nokia wants to prove that you won’t be losing anything in terms of picture quality if you go for the Nokia E6-00 and its 8MP fixed-focus snapper.
That’s why they have selected a bunch of photos taken from an internal competition at Nokia during the device’s testing. Read more »
With Sony Ericsson being kind enough to unlock the XPERIA Arc bootloader, rooting the device was the only thing missing for a grand hacker slam. Well now we’ve got that one completed, thanks to the ever helpful XDA community.
The best part is that you can try this at home and get full access to the system folders of your very own XPERIA Arc. There is only a single step required (check out the source link) so it shouldn’t be a problem to anyone who knows their way around smartphones. You will need to unlock your bootloader first though, if you haven’t done so already. Read more »
The second Samsung Galaxy S II ad is out and it takes us far north where an Eskimo faces a challenge – send an SMS with gloves on. Taking the gloves off isn’t recommended, even predictive text input can’t make sense of text typed with freezing, shaking hands.
So, how does the Galaxy S II help the Eskimo? Well… Read more »
After ASUS unveiled the Eee Transformer Pad and Motorola introduced the ATRIX 4G, now the widely infamous Kosmaz Technology want to take their shot at mobile convergence with the Compufon concept. While this isn’t really a great name to be honest, the Compufon aims to target the smartphone, tablet and netbook markets all at the same time.
Admittedly, the shots of the thing look impressive. Kosmaz has done a far better job at discretely integrating the smartphone into the netbook/tablet dock than Motorola did with the ATRIX 4G. The specifications, while nothing we haven’t heard of, are still impressive. Read more »
Nokia has teamed up with Rovio to bring an exclusive Angry Birds Magic game on the NFC-capable Nokia Astound and C7 (after the functionality gets unlocked). The free version of the game contains 20 levels, 15 of which are unlocked only via NFC communication with another device.
