ADW Launcher Ex updated, gets some ICS visuals and features

One of the most popular 3rd party launchers for Android devices got an update today, which brought a host of new features and some nice visual tune-ups. ADW Launcher Ex 1.3.3.5 comes with most of the eye-candy that you normally associate with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The update should allow the Launcher Ex to play nice with the host Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones and tablets, which are bound to come at the start of 2012. You get a new Dockbar, the option to create folders by dragging an app onto another on your homescreen and some new transition effects. Read more »

Chinese court denies Apple lawsuit, forbids it to use the iPad name in China

Apple has just suffered a setback in China as the Intermediate People’s Court in Shenzhen rejected its lawsuit regarding the iPad naming rights. Apple was suing the local Proview Technology for infringing its iPad trademark, but the outcome wasn’t in its favor.

According to the court order, Apple cannot use the iPad name in China, which might turn out to be quite a big deal as the company is aiming for a rapid expansion in the Chinese market. To make matters worse, Proview Technology, which registered the iPad trademark in 2000, is now suing the Cupertino-based electronics giant, seeking 10 billion Chinese yuan ($1.5 billion) in compensation. Rejoice, mobile gamers! Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition will be hitting Android and iOS smartphones and tablets next week. We got actual screenshots from the game, a list of compatible devices and even an exact pricing.

Firmware 4.00 for PlayStation 3 doesn’t close exploit, jailbreaking still an option

Sony recently released firmware 4.00 for its PlayStation 3 console, but some users have been hesitant to apply it as it was still uncertain if it patches the exploit used for the jailbreak. Well, now we know that’s not the case, thanks to a tweet by one of the popular hackers that work on the platform.

Windows Store opens in February to developers, will be your only source for Metro-style apps

Microsoft has divulged some juicy details regarding the upcoming Windows Store for Windows 8. Like any application store, this will be a unified location to download apps on your Windows 8 device and will be your only source for downloading Metro-style apps.

Chinese hackers bring a fully functioning port of Siri to the iPhone 4 [VIDEO]

A group of Chinese hackers who go by the name ‘CD-Team’ have created a working iteration of the iPhone 4S‘s well known voice assistant, Siri. Since the inclusion of Siri on the iPhone 4S, hackers have been trying to modify, hack or in some way manipulate the underlying coding so that the unique service can run on other iOS-endowed devices, but as of yet, we haven’t seen a successful release.

This latest solution only currently works on the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4G with a jailbroken version of either iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1, so if you were hoping for some Siri action from your iPhone 3GS or your iPad 2, you’re going to find yourself waiting a very long time. Read more »

Ever since we first laid our eyes on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, we’ve been mesmerized by its gorgeous SuperAMOLED Plus screen and have since been holding our breath to find out how much it’ll cost.

Facebook app for Android getting an update, dedicated Places app coming up next

Facebook is getting ready to refresh its arsenal on Android. The software engineers of the behemoth social network are putting the finishing touches on version 1.8 of the Facebook app for Android and there will be a whole new app coming to the Google platform in the near future.

The new version of the app brings slightly cleaner UI and should supposedly improve navigation, menu and search functionality. We should be hearing more about it in the near future, when it is expected to hit the Android Market. Read more »

DingleBerry rooting tool now publicly available, your PlayBook finds it gross

If your fingers have been itching ever since you read that story about the PlayBook jailbreak, you’d be glad to know that the tool is now publicly available. It’s still in beta and it keeps the unfortunate naming, but if you dare DingleBerry is fully capable of giving you root access on your PlayBook.

Asus shows the Eee Pad Transformer Prime sleeve, the Smart covers smirk

Asus Taiwan just unveiled a pretty cool accessory for its yet-to-be-released Eee Pad Transformer Prime quad-core Android tablet. Quite strangely called “sleeve” the accessory is actually a cover for the Transformer Prime screen that easily transforms into a stand that can be used for watching video on the slate.

Yeap, it’s much the same deal as with the Apple iPad 2′s Smart covers, save for the slightly different folding pattern. And before you start pointing any fingers, don’t forget that the Smart covers aren’t exactly a new idea either. Read more »

Opera 11.60 is out, you’ll want to use it, because Justin Bieber doesn’t

Today, Opera software released the latest version of its desktop browser. Opera 11.60 brings a few new features to the table, including new HTML5 parsing algorithm, which should help unify code discrepancies among browsers, new email client and improved speeds for SSL sites.

The new Opera browser also comes with a new star button, which lets you quickly add sites you like to your Speed Dial. The address field has been revamped with new search suggestions and you should now be able to find your favorite websites faster. The browser engine saw some updates as well so Opera 11.60 should be the most stable version of the browser so far. Read more »

LG just introduced a new member to its lineup of portable computers. The LG X-Note Z330 is a 1.21kg ultrabook with a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Just 14.7mm thick and with an extremely cool design, the Z330 is certainly among the hottest looking laptops to date.

The LG X-Note Z330 comes with either Core i7 2637M or Core i5 2467M CPU, 4GB or RAM and 120GB or 300GB SSD, which allow it to make a cold boot in the amazing 9.9 seconds.
