Opera released the latest version of its desktop browser, Opera 12, which brings support for themes. Setting a new theme for your Opera browser will add a new background image on the speed dial and new tab page and would also change the colors the tab bar and the browser chrome.

It’s not a terribly unique feature, with both Firefox and Chrome being able to do this for a long time now but it’s good to see it arrive on Opera as well and the implementation is actually pretty good. The few themes available on Opera’s site also look pretty good. Read more »

One of the things we wait for when a new product is launched, apart from getting our hands on it, is watching iFixit tear them apart and expose their innards. Naturally, the new MacBooks announced at WWDC weren’t going to be treated differently, so now we have the full iFixit teardown of both the new MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air.

Sony showcased a flexible 9.9″ OLED screen at SID’s Display Week 2012. The screen is just a prototype for now and wasn’t even physically present at the event – they just showed a video of it.

Sony said “We have just made the panel and did not have time to evaluate its reliability for bringing it out”, but even so “it is a realistic choice for volume production of a flexible OLED panel”. Read more »

Sony announced the Xperia tipo and tipo dual this morning (among other things). And here come the first promo videos of the two mini droids.

The Xperia tipo is an entry-level smartphone but it comes with the latest Android ICS out of the box. Inside the Xperia tipo there is a 800Mhz Snapdragon chipset, 2.9GB of built-in memory and a 1500mAh battery. The screen is a smallish 3.2″ HVGA TFT unit and there’s a 3 megapixel snapper on the back. Apple may have announced support for iOS 6 on the three year old iPhone 3GS and the two year old iPhone 4 but they won’t be getting the same treatment as the company’s newest iPhone 4S. If you go through Apple’s website and read the fine print you will find out that some of the more important features in iOS 6 that were demoed in the keynote couple of days ago won’t be available at all on the iPhone 4 and 3GS.

One of these features is Flyover, part of the new Maps app in iOS 6. Flyover lets you see an aerial view of the major metro areas around the world in glorious photorealistic 3D. Read more »

Amazon has finally released its Cloud Player app to iOS. Right now only the iPhone and iPod Touch units running version 4.3 or later of the platform are supported.

The app provides an alternative to users, who don’t feel happy about iTunes’ DRM policy on songs and makes it possible to play the tracks from the Cloud Drive. Read more »

Samsung’s flagship the Galaxy S III is among the most capable Android mobile devices on the market today and its powers aren’t confined to just raw computing power and a great display.

The S III is quite the connectivity beast, as tech blog AndroidNZ was eager to demonstrate in a lengthy video. They put the Galaxy S III through its paces by hooking it up to various devices, flash drives, hard disks and other gadgets to see if it delivers. Read more »

By now we’re all familiar with the PlayBook’s ability to run Android apps, but a video has surfaced allegedly showing iOS running on the RIM tablet.

There’s no arguing that Android could feel a little sluggish at times, especially when faced with less capable hardware. Even in its latest, Ice Cream Sandwich release, Google’s mobile OS feels like it could do with more code optimization. And that’s exactly what the Linaro team has done.
