The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with an immense amount of camera innovation. It’s the first time we see a cameraphone with real optical image stabilization system in place and surprise, surprise… it doesn’t come with a huge hump on its back.
While only having 8MP of maximum image resolution, the Nokia Lumia 920 also wows with the high-quality Carl Zeiss optics, a last-gen backlit image sensor, multi-aspect shooting, the extra wide viewing angle (up to 26mm in 16:9 mode), a new type of high power/short pulse LED flash and finally, the extra bright F2.0 aperture.
As you see, with the Nokia Lumia 920, PureView development has zoomed on low light performance rather than class leading sharpness and dynamic range. But the results we get should be as impressive as ever. It’s just that this time Nokia’s R&D team is focusing in another direction. Read more »
Amazon didn’t forget the Kindle Fire tablets, either. The old Kindle Fire gets a hardware upgrade – the processor has been updated to run at 1.2GHz, the RAM has been doubled to 1GB and the battery life has been improved. With the new parts the Kindle Fire is now 40% faster. It costs $159 and will hit the shelves on September 14.
Amazon also announced the new Kindle Fire HD. It’s a powerful tablet with a 7.0 or 8.9-inch IPS display options. Read more »
Amazon has just unveiled the Kindle Paperwhite. It’s a new thin e-reader with revolutionary Paperwhite screen where whites are whiter and black are blacker. The new (capacitive) display offers 25% more contrast and 62% more pixels, reaching 212ppi for an even crisper text.
Thanks to the new technology, the new Kindle Paperwhite is just 9.1mm thin and weighs 213 grams. Among the most touted feature is the screen lighting system. Along the screen there is a patented light guide systems that makes use of sort of “flattened out optical fibres”. Read more »
Nokia’s yesterday announcement shook the mobile world for sure, one way or another. The new flagship, Lumia 920, managed both to impress and get involved in a PR scandal.
Then you learn that the Lumia 920’s PureView camera lacks the monstrous sensor the 808 PureView has, instead it relies on other kind of magic. And finally, the smartphone lacks memory expansion slot. You probably wonder why that is. After all Windows Phone 8 introduced support for microSD slots. Read more »
Adobe has released v1.3 of their Photoshop Touch app for iOS and Android and comes with a handful of improvements. First of all, v1.3 brings with it Retina display support for the new iPad, making it a lot more usable now.
The other important feature available on both iOS as well as the Android version is that Photoshop Touch now supports up to 12 megapixel images, which is great for quickly editing those high resolution images from you camera while you are outdoors and away from your computer. Read more »
For the nerds among us, finding how stuff works has been a never-ending adventure. The demos of the Super Sensitive Touch technology on the newly announced Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 were really impressive in their own right. Operating capacitive touchscreens with a nail or even with a glove on seems amazing. But it’s even more interesting to see how they made that possible.
The secret behind it is Synaptics new ClearPad capacitive touchscreen sensing technology. It’s actually the latest development in the Synaptics ClearPad Series 3 portfolio, which has been around for quite some time now. In fact, ClearPad Series 3 touch technology has already been implemented in top smartphones such as the HTC One X or the Sony Xperia P.
But the Lumias use an even more advanced version – the Synaptics ClearPad 3250. As the latest in the ClearPad Series 3 portfolio, this innovative product allows the new Lumias’ screens to automatically recognize bare skin, gloves or fingernails and the controller optimizes the touch configuration accordingly on the fly. The original Samsung Galaxy Note was not left in the cold now that the sequel has been announced. The new Ice Cream Sandwich ROM N7000XXLRQ with a timestamp of 28.08.2012 is reportedly available to users in Germany via KIES or OTA and also as a direct download to everyone by the XDA community.
The novelties include an updated user interface – much like the one you may have seen on the Galaxy S III – and S-Cloud integration. Also the gallery has received the sidebar look that we saw first on the recently announced Note II. Read more »
Gameloft has released a new trailer for their upcoming hack and slash action game based on the Unreal Engine.
Wild Blood is a third person action game based in the medieval times and follows the story of Sir Lancelot. The trailer shows off the expected impressive graphics along with some exciting combat elements. Having said that, Wild Blood does bear strong resemblances to the God of War and Infinity Blade games at times. Read more »
Kobo just went ahead today and announced a lineup of three spanking new readers. The Kobo Mini is a simple e-book reader, the smallest one available, as the company claims. The Kobo Glo is my favorite and it matches what Barnes&Nobles have with their glowing Nook SimpleTouch and what Amazon will soon have with their sidelit e-book Kindle, too. And finally, the Kobo Arc is a reboot of the Kobo Vox, the rather unsuccessful attempt of the company at making an Android tablet for multimedia consumption ala Kindle Fire.
Kobo is the smallest of three major online bookstore/ebook reader providers on the US market. And when you are that small, the best way to cast a shadow on your competitor’s announcement, is to go public with your products right after their announcement, not before it. That’s the way the internet rolls, newer stuff goes on top of older news. But, hey, what do I know, over at Kobo they probably read off their own marketing textbook. But I digress. Read more »
All tech enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for Amazon’s announcement later today, where we should see the next generation of the Kindle ebook readers and the Kindle Fire tablet. It turns out, however, that Amazon already showed these in a video spot, which was aired yesterday.
The commercial obviously shows what I was hoping for – that backlit (or sidelit, whatever) ebook readers are coming strong after Barnes&Noble debuted their illuminated Nook. It also shows that we’ll see a revamp of the Kindle Fire, and quite obviously, a bigger 10-inch version of that too (watch out for this at 0:53). But enough talking, enjoy the video. Read more »

Motorola unleashed the first wave of promo videos and the one for the Droid RAZR HD describes it as the “all-day phone”. It also focuses on the new 4.7” Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution and fact that the RAZR HD is the most compact phone for its screen size.
The Nokia Lumia 920 hosts a good deal of new tech features. The easiest way to figure out what they are is to watch these videos from Nokia, which do a good job of demonstrating them.
First is the PureView camera – the 920 has an 8MP shooter with bright F/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens, image stabilization and “best in class” low-light performance. In Nokia’s own words: “It’s not about the number megapixels, but about how you use them”. Read more »
The freshly announced Lumia 820 is Nokia’s take at a budget Windows Phone 8-running smartphone. It offers easy customization in the form of exchangeable back covers, which come in different colors and can support Nokia’s wireless charging.
So, Nokia has decided to demonstrate that and the other unique features of the Lumia 820 in a quick hands-on video. Check it out. Read more »
