After selling over 150 million units world wide since it went on sale almost 13 years ago, the old warhorse PlayStation 2, it seems, is now finally making an exit. According to Famitsu, Sony has stopped shipping the console to retailers in Japan.
The PlayStation 2 went on sale in Japan back on March 4, 2000, and was a tremendous success for the company.
We already saw how the Windows Phone 8 Store is doing, time to have a look at the Windows 8 store. According to MetroStore Scanner, the store for Microsoft’s new computer OS has over 35,000 apps, over 22,000 of which are available in the UK.
That’s not bad, considering that the Store had only 10,000 apps at the end of October.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone Store has steadily been making progress, at least as far as the number of applications are concerned. 2012, in particular, seems to have been a good year, with over 75,000 new applications been added to the store, roughly doubling the overall number.
Back during the launch of Windows Phone 8, Microsoft had said that they had over 120,000 apps on the Windows Phone Store, although no further update was provided on that number this time. What we do know is that customers are now downloading an average of 54 applications to their device, which is over half of what iOS users do.

Samsung is teasing a new TV that will be unveiled at CES early next year. The video is obscure as can be, but the company’s Flickr account has several images of the revamped Smart TVs, which will be showcased at CES too, and are slightly more generous with the details.
The new Smart Hub promises easier to use interface and it will serve as a content platform – the TVs will handle broadcast television as well as on-demand TV shows and movies, browse photos and support apps too.
It appears that Apple will ship significantly less iPad mini tablets in Q4 than initially predicted. According to component suppliers in Taiwan, the Cupertino giant will ship an estimated 8 million slates in the last quarter of 2012 – not the projected 10-12 million.
The reason for the occurrence is not lack of interest towards Apple’s creation – it remains quite healthy.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Acer will launch a $99 Android tablet in 2013. The sub-$100 slate will go head to head with the numerous low-cost Chinese tablets which are offered in developing countries under a plethora of different brands.
The budget-friendly Acer Iconia Tab B1 will sport a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU (likely a Mediatek unit), a 7″ display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and 512MB of RAM.
A yet to be revealed Samsung GT-N5100 has made an appearance in GLBenchmark, thus all but confirming that there is a new member of the Galaxy Note family coming our way. As you probably know by now, the N moniker has been used by Galaxy Note products since the launch of the original N7000 last year.
According to the benchmark data, the Samsung GT-N5100 boots Android 4.1.2 and features a 1.6GHz Exynos 4412 CPU.

Gameloft’s Modern Combat series of games have gained a bit of infamy for being heavily based on Call of Duty games. Still, despite that fact, one can’t deny that these have always been some of the best first person shooters on mobile.
The last one, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation was a particularly good game and with the latest one, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Gameloft seems to have turned every dial to eleven to produce, at least on paper, one of the best first person shooters on the mobile platform.
