Apple shares have slipped today during premarket and early market trading by nearly $17, bringing the overall value of Apple stock close to $500.

Gartner has posted its estimated PC shipment results for 2012 and things aren’t bright for the good ol’ personal computer.

The company estimates that PC vendors have shipped more than 90 million PCs in Q4, 2012 which is 4.9% lower than what they managed in the same period in 2011. According to Gartner, the tablets are to blame. Read more »

ASUS has announced a the new MeMo Pad, which is their new 7-inch low cost Android tablet and will be going on sale in the US for just $149 for the base model.

For that money, you get a tablet with a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution display, VIA WM8950 SoC with 1GHz Cortex A9 CPU and Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8/16GB internal memory with microSD card slot. Read more »

Some of you may already know about the new Daydream feature in Android 4.2. For those who don’t, Daydream allows the application to display information on the screen when the device is is idle or docked. Think of it as being the equivalent of the screensaver that we still see on desktop computers. Developers can use this functionality to display relevant information on the screen in an easy to see manner.

The developers of Flipboard have decided to take advantage of this functionality in the latest update to their app. Once enabled, Flipboard will show new items full screen from the feeds you have subscribed to. Read more »

A surprise leak on the XDA forums gave the Motorola Atrix 2 users access to an official Jelly Bean ROM for their smartphones. Under its new management, Motorola announced certain phones won’t be updated anymore. Still, for most of the handsets released in 2011 or later the update was to be guaranteed.

The Motorola Atrix 2 was released in October 2011 but it was never on the white list of the devices lucky enough to get an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

After pushing the update to the European version of the Galaxy Tab 2, Samsung has now begun rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the US version as well.

According to Android Police, both the 10.1-inch as well as the 7.0-inch models are now receiving the 4.1.1 update, over the air as well as through the Samsung Kies application. Read more »

Popular file storage and sharing service Dropbox just updated the Android version of their application, which brings with it some useful new features.

Two of the important new features are the ability to share as well delete multiple files at once. But either there is some bug or I’m missing something here, because I can’t for the life of me find any option to mark multiple files at once. Read more »

The highly successful TV series Game of Thrones by HBO is getting ready for its third season on the small (or big) screen of your TV. The new teaser is here and it’s three times longer than the one released back in December.

Nokia’s Xpress Browser is the default web browser on the Nokia’s Asha lineup and it’s also an optional download for the Lumia phones, running on Windows Phone. Nokia prides on the capabilities of the web browser to compress data and reduce traffic.

To accomplish this Nokia servers process and compress all data to and from the mobile device. But has it occurred to you that in the process Nokia’s servers are also decrypting the information sent over the allegedly secure HTTPS protocol, which you may have thought no one has access to. Archos is well known for offering affordable tablets but for the first time ever the manufacturer comes out with so good-looking ones.

Over at the now fading away CES 2013 show the France-based company showed off the Titanium line of tablets (70, 80, 101 and 97) – all running Android 4.1, all using IPS screens with dual-core processors and quad-core graphics (that’s 1080p capable), all having sleek aluminum design and all costing under $250. Up until now, leaving a user review on an app on the Play Store was a one way dialogue. Most people would express their opinions or concerns about an app and there was no way for them to get a response from the developer.

To solve this predicament, Google has now introduced the option to allow developers to respond directly to the people who leave reviews on their apps. Read more »

The Google Chrome browser for Android started life as a beta download from the Play Store, but was shortly promoted to the stable status. However, unlike with the desktop version, there was no separate beta channel that you could download later if you wanted to be on the bleeding edge of the browser’s development.

That is, until now. Google has released the new Chrome Beta for Android, which, just like its desktop counterpart, would let you sample all the upcoming features and improvements before they hit the stable version. Read more »
