iFixit rates Apple and Microsoft lowest in repairability amongst tablets

iFixit, the folks behind all those thorough device teardowns, we’ve come to know and love, have released a tablet ranking, based on how easy they are to take apart and repair.

The new Microsoft Surface devices and the recent iPad generations all rate very poorly amongst other tablets on the list, due in large part to the adhesive used on the devices, which renders them easily breakable while trying to take apart. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 launched in India as Galaxy Note 510

Samsung today announced the South West Asian version of the Galaxy Note 8.0 – and it’s called the Galaxy Note 510. The reason for renaming the 8″ slate is still mysterious.

The devices is slated for a launch on the Indian market and perhaps some other South West Asian markets too. Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 aka Galaxy Note 510 is a new addition to Samsung’s range of tablets – it slots somewhere in-between the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Galaxy Note II. Read more »

Foursquare for iOS redesigned with Explore section to help you find places quickly

Foursquare, the location based social networking website has updated its iOS application and the app now comes with the updated Explore, which shows you more recommendations on a single screen and allows you to compare results.

As before, the app shows you relevant information as per your needs and you can see the ratings of places, whether you have friends who have visited them and much more. The update also lets you see the directions and menu items of a place with a single tap. Read more »

YouTube for iOS now comes with send-to-TV option and improved streaming

The users of YouTube for iOS have been enjoying the streaming via AirPlay for quite a while now, but the latest update to the application adds the Send to TV option, which allows you to streaming content to your Smart TV, Xbox or Sony PS3.

The latest version of the application also comes with improved streaming over a slow Wi-Fi connection,, allowing anyone on the same Wi-Fi network to join in to control the video or queue videos. Read more »

NVIDIA Project Shield boots a PS3 game without breaking a sweat

After showing us Real Boxing running on its Project Shield gaming console a couple of weeks back, NVIDIA has posted yet another video which showcases the Tegra 4 gadget’s capabilities. This time around, NVIDIA Project Shield gets shown off running a PlayStation 3 game without braking any sweat.

Apple iPhone 5 video stabilization given a proper spanking by Morpho MovieSolid software

As we were cruising through the MWC 2013 grounds a particularly interesting piece of Android software caught our eye. Developed by the relatively unknown Japanese company Morpho, the MovieSolid video stabilization doesn’t require any special hardware to work, yet yields impressive results.

Using only the data from the camera sensor and the smartphone’s gyro sensor (if available), the MovieSolid solution manages to turn an otherwise shaky video into something that looks as if shot with a steadicam. We tested the software against the Apple iPhone 5, which we have found to have the best digital stabilization in the smartphone game so far and we were really stunned by the result. Read more »

OUYA gaming console will ship to Kickstarter backers next month

OUYA announced that it will begin shipping its Android gaming consoles to Kickstarter backers next month, on March 28. The consoles are already in production, so tens of thousands of early believers will get to enjoy OUYA three months before everyone else.

The retail launch of the OUYA gaming console is set for June. Game developers on the other hand, are testing out their creations on OUYA hardware since December of last year. Read more »

The Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona is coming to an end. Until 2013 the event took place at Fira de Barcelona in the foot of the Montjuïc hills, but this year the exhibition has moved to the more spacious and modern-looking Fira de Barcelona Gran Via.

Ubisoft announces Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Ubisoft has just announced the fourth major installment of the Assassin’s Creed saga – it’s called the Black Flag. The game is currently in development but will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, once it’s done. Update: Ubisoft has confirmed the game will also launch on the next generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720). It also announced the release date – October 29, 2013.

Since the controversial ending of the Assassin’s Creed III, as well as the uninspiring plot and repetitive gameplay, lots of fans considered the game to be the last of the series or at least the last one they would buy. Yet here is Ubisoft announcing Assassin’s Creed IV with pirates. Read more »

Pandora limits mobile streaming to 40 hours a month due to the rising royalty costs

The popular internet radio service Pandora has announced the implementation of its new 40 hours per month limit on mobile listening. However, the new limitation is expected to affect less than 4% of the total monthly listeners (probably, the abusers) as the average listener spends approximately 20 hours a month listening to Pandora.

Pandora’s per track royalty rates has been on the raise and according to few reports the royalty rates have increased by more than 25% over the last 3 years and have invoked the company to implement the new limits. Read more »

Chrome for Android update brings improved scrolling performance, background audio playback

Google has updated the Android version of Chrome with several new features. Now at version 25.0.1364.123, the latest update concentrates mostly on improving the performance, with some useful new additions.

The list of improvements in this update includes improved scrolling performance, increased responsiveness to pinch-to-zooming and the latest version of the V8 javascript engine, which results in faster interactive pages. Read more »

Real Racing 3 sees a wider release on iOS and Android

After curiously launching only in New Zealand on the App Store, EA has now finally released Real Racing 3 globally for both iOS and Android devices. The game is free to download and weighs in at 716MB on iOS.

For those who are not aware, Real Racing is a series of (fairly) realistic racing games that first debuted on iOS and then arrived on Android with Real Racing 2. In the latest iteration, EA is promising even more realism than before. Read more »

Google Play Books now available in India

The Google Play Store has been available in India since its inception, but so far, the only content you could purchase were apps and games.

Google has now added a second category to the store with the introduction of Google Play Books. You will see the new addition immediately after launching the Play Store app on your Android device. Just like the apps, the books are arranged into various categories as well as groups such as books below ₹100, books below ₹50, etc. Read more »

Samsung officially launches Wallet, a rival to Apple’s Passbook

In its annual Developer Day, held at the Mobile World Congress, Samsung has officially launched a ticket and coupon management application called Samsung Wallet, which is said to be quite similar to the Apple’s Passbook app.

Samsung Wallet allows you to store and manage event tickets, boarding passes, cards and coupons all under one roof. The South Korean manufacturer has also released an Application Programming Interface for its newly launched Wallet allowing partnering service providers to integrate their applications with the Wallet.
