The iPad Air is now $100 cheaper than usual if you buy one from Best Buy. The price cut takes the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi model to $399.99, which is the lowest amount you’ve ever needed to pay for it.

Waiting for a battery to charge is the second worst thing you have to do (after filing taxes, I guess). Thanks to the engineering prowess of Shawn West, however, the former task could be done in just 26 seconds.

West has created a battery that can replace normal AA, AAA, C and D-sized batteries with super fast rechargeable ones. He also says that tech this could be adapted to work in mobile phones as well. Read more »

Wikipedia is now available as a full-blown app on the Apple App Store, following its release on the Google Play Store more than a month ago.

Previously, Wikipedia relied on wrapping its mobile website in an app format, but now the largest online encyclopedia is available for the two most popular mobile operating systems as a native application. Read more »

Motorola announced the Android Wear running Moto 360, but was mum about a lot of details, including a launch date. The company also showed a bunch of photos of the smartwatch, on which it appears to be made of metal. Well, not so fast with the conclusions.

The latest rumors have it that the phone will actually be made out of plastic. Additionally, because of the wireless charging feature, the Moto 360 is rumored to be 13.5mm thick. In comparison, it’s brethren the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live are 9.9mm and 8.9mm thick, respectively. Read more »

The Wireless Power Consortium has outlined the new Qi v.1.2 wireless charging standard, which comes with support for greater charging distance. The current Qi standard is only capable of charging at a distance of 7mm, while v1.2. promises to increase this to 45mm.

The consortium says that five different member companies are already demonstrating charging at 45mm distance using prototype receivers. It also quite possible that charging station will become cheaper, as the new standard enables them to use a single inverter to power multiple coils.. Read more »

The G Pad gets the usual set of improvements that come with the KitKat update, both under the hood and in terms of UI. It also gets the useful Knock Code feature found on LG’s newer smartphones (and something you won’t find on the GPe). Read more »

Three UK just announced inTouch – an app for Android and iOS that can route your calls and texts over a Wi-Fi network. This isn’t like Skype or Viber, no this is for regular calls and texts that would normally go through the GSM network (they even come out of your monthly plan).

The iFixit team has decided to do a teardown on the Galaxy S5′s little brother and see if the similarities on the outside continue with the internal design too.

The round smartwatch field may heat up very quickly – Motorola is taking its sweet time to put the Moto 360 on sale, while Samsung has already patented three round smartwatch designs. OnePlus may also throw its hat in the ring as there are already 3D renderings for promo material of the OneWatch.

Shazam has released a desktop version of their popular mobile application for the Mac. The app has so far been limited to iOS, Android and Windows platforms.

The Mac version of Shazam works similarly to the mobile version, except you can now have it running all the time in the background. It will constantly look out for music or other media such as TV shows or even advertisements in the background and will show a handy notification for you when it recognizes it. Read more »

Samsung trademarked the Gear S name. The Korean giant filed the paperwork for the moniker in the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) earlier this month, on July 22.
