HTC Flounder/Volantis premium specs leak again, confirmed by South Korea certification authority

The upcoming HTC Nexus 8 tablet has visited the rumor mill again with uprising Twitter leakster @UpLeaks sharing some of its key specifications. The slate, which has been called Volantis and Flounder before, is called by him the T1 and appears to have gone through a certification process in South Korea.

As far as specifications go, the HTC T1 will be one of the first to feature the 64-bit Nvidia Tegra chip, 4GB of RAM and will run Android L out of the box. Read more »

Beats now has its own page in the Apple Store

Beats now has a prominent position in the Shop Accessories portion of the Apple Store, a week after the deal officially closed. Beats comes second only to Apple-branded accessories and the page offers everything from headphones through wireless speakers to accessories or the accessories.

Android YouTube app now supports 1440p resolution

Google recently introduced the option to select the resolution of the video you are watching in the Android version of the YouTube app. Depending upon the device you are using, the maximum resolution option would differ, although it is known to get confused at times.

So far, the maximum resolution option available in the app was 1080p, even if you have happen to have a smartphone or tablet with higher resolution. But to address that minor inconvenience, the app now goes up to 1440p on select devices. Read more »

VSCO Cam for Android updated to v3.0

VSCO has updated their VSCO Cam app for Android to version 3.0. The update was released on iOS months ago but it took them quite a while to bring it to Android.

The main feature in this update is the ability to find and follow other users of VSCO Grid. VSCO Grid is a social network where you can upload images from the VSCO app. So far, the only way to view and follow the profiles of other VSCO users was from the website or the iOS app but now you can do it from within the Android app as well. Microsoft pulling the plug on old versions of IE

Windows 9 will retire the Charms bar, add virtual desktops

Microsoft’s next big Windows release, codenamed Threshold, but which will probably be called Windows 9, is set to drop yet another controversial feature introduced in Windows 8. We’re talking about the (in)famous Charms bar.

On a touchscreen device, this slides in from the right of the screen, and it’s reasonably easy to use (though not obvious that it’s there). If you’ve got a keyboard and mouse situation, however, you need to take your mouse pointer to either the top or bottom right side of your screen, let it hover there and then the bar “magically” appears. HTC One (M8) Duo Camera effects can now be shared online

Today HTC’s published an update to its Gallery app in the Play Store. This update enables owners of the One (M8) to use the new Duo Effects Gallery, which is a Web viewer that lets you share the interactive viewing experience of the Duo Camera’s effects with anyone.

This Web interface lets people you’ve shared your works of art with change the focus point in an image, as well as choose which part of the picture has effects applied. UFocus, Foregrounder, and Dimension Plus effects are now shareable with whoever you like. Read more »

Samsung Gear Solo standalone smartwatch said to be launching alongside the Note 4

Remember Samsung’s telephony-enabled smartwatch called Gear Solo? It got leaked back in April, and now it looks like we’re very close to its actual release.

Nokia HERE Maps for Windows Phone gets updated data

Nokia’s HERE Maps for Windows Phone has received a hefty update of its underlying map data. It brings with it better mapping in certain countries, nicer looking 3D landmarks in some cities, as well as point address rendering in more places.

The latter means you’re able to see at a glance where addresses and buildings are are on each street. Seeing exact addresses on the map is obviously helpful, as long as the feature is available in enough places and is accurate. Read more »

CyanogenMod 11 (Android 4.4) ported to Nokia X

The original Nokia X trio will not see an update to the second version of the platform and the platform itself is on its way out. If you did get a Nokia X, though, you’ll soon be able to join the Android 4.4.4. KitKat crowd with CyanogenMod 11.

“Soon” because the current version of the ROM lacks three key features: Wi-Fi, camera and storage. Read more »
