Microsoft employees drop Surface tablet on hardwood floor in the name of reliability testing

Well, it’s good to know that even Microsoft guys aren’t above throwing gadgets just to see what will happen. Okay, officially it was presented as a reliability test for the Surface tablet, but you can see way too many smiling faces for this to be a boring, repetitive durability test.

The Windows 8 RT-powered slate was shooting 1080p video at the time of the test, which consisted of falling 30″ (76cm) on a hardwood floor. Check out the video of the Surface taking a plunge after the break. Read more »

32GB Microsoft Surface sold out in the US, is still available in other countries

The Surface tablet pre-orders has started a fire in the US and as a result Microsoft has already sold out all its US stock of the base 32GB model (without Touch Cover). If you pre-order this version now it will only be delievered to you in three weeks, while the other two available models are still scheduled to arrive on October 26.

Microsoft Surface RT pricing and availability surfaces, takes after the iPad (Updated)

A slip-up at the Microsoft online store has finally lead to the unveiling of the Surface tablet’s pricing. Scheduled to hit store on October 26, the pricing of the Microsoft Surface starts from $500 without the cool Black Touch Cover with keyboard. However, chances are that you’ll want the cool accessory, which basically transforms the Surface into a fully-fledged notebook replacement. In that case, you’ll need to shell out $600. Both prices apply for the 32GB version of the slate.

Acer has unveiled its latest all-in-one solutions running Windows 8, the 23-inch Aspire 5600U and the 27-inch 7600U.

Microsoft releases Windows 8 teaser ad

With the release of their next operating system release just over a week from now, Microsoft is working hard to advertise the product and create public awareness. If you’re in the US you may have already seen Surface ads all over the place by now.

Microsoft has now released an ad for Windows 8 that will air on national television, shortly followed by several others. It’s a teaser ad that quickly goes through some of the Windows 8 features, such as the new Modern UI, multi-touch functionality and the ability to run applications side by side. Read more »

Dell announces new Windows 8-running PCs, lets you preorder now

Dell is introduced its lineup of upcoming PCs, running the new Windows 8 operating system.

There’s the new tablet-slash-ultrabook called XPS 12, the XPS 13 ultrabook has received an Ivy Bridge update, while the XPS One 27 and Inspiron One 23 All-in-Ones got touch-enabled screens. Windows 8 prices revealed, you can pre-order it with or without a computer starting today

Today we finally get to see all price options for Microsoft’s next-generation computer OS – the Windows 8. The OS will launch on Oct 26, but you can pre-order it on a DVD right now, if you absolutely need to have a disc. For the rest of us, the update would be available online for download and purchase via the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant for a cheaper price. The full Windows 8 Pro OS will be downloadable as well when you purchase the license separately.

Oh, yes, and the prices, of course. An online upgrade from Windows XP, Vista or 7 to Windows 8 Pro will cost you $40, as we’ve seen before. That’s a time-limited offer, valid only until January 31, 2013. But there are other options, too. Read more »

Angry Birds Star Wars coming on November 8 to devices near you

The last few days Rovio released a couple of teasers about a Star Wars-themed Angry Birds title. There was even an event in New York and, long story short – a new Angry Birds is coming, along with board games and dedicated merchandise (plush toys, etc.).

Microsoft event on October 25 will launch Windows 8 and Surface tablet

Microsoft will be holding a special event in New York on October 25, where it’ll officially introduce Windows 8 and the Windows Surface tablets.

After the event, which starts at 10:00AM, the guys from Redmond will announce the launch of the highly anticipated Surface tablet. The actual availability is said to start right at midnight on October 26 through the company’s special pop-up stores. Read more »

Steam starts selling software through its online store

Back in August, Steam announced its plan to expand its online store. The plan was to move beyond selling just games and also offer useful software for your computer. Sticking to that plan, Steam has now added a software section with a handful of apps now available for purchase.

The list of software currently includes GameMaker: Studio, 3D-Coat, ArtRage Studio Pro, 3DMark Vantage, 3DMark 11, CameraBag 2 and Source FilmMaker. Other than the first and the last, all other are paid applications and Steam is offering a 10% off discount for the first week. Read more »
