Samsung exec disparages Windows 8, says it’s no better than Windows Vista

Ever since its launch, Windows 8 hasn’t exactly seen an overwhelmingly positive response, with many criticizing the new direction Microsoft took with the UI design of the OS. We have even seen companies like Acer, ASUS and Fujitsu bemoan the lack of demand for Windows 8 products.

Now, Samsung’s head of memory chip division – Jun Dong-soo – has joined the rank of people complaining about Windows 8, saying it’s no better than Windows Vista, an OS known best for being one of the biggest failures in the history of technology. Read more »

Microsoft has officially released the final version of the latest Internet Explorer to Windows 7 users. The Internet Explorer 10 is available in 95 languages and Windows 7 users will all get the update to the latest version of IE automatically in the upcoming days but eager users are able to download it manually.

Microsoft confirms Windows Blue upgrade for desktops and smartphones

Microsoft’s upcoming OS update scheme named Windows Blue, which will allow the company to have a low-cost Windows platform on a yearly update schedule is supposed to get underway later this year. Now, Microsoft has more or less confirmed the arrival of the upgrades through a job posting on its careers site.

Real World Racing Beta now available, allows you to race on real streets

The open beta version of the Real World Racing is now available for all the race gaming fans. The title brings a whole new dimension for gaming as it is built using real satellite images, which lets you to race on the real streets.

If you are an Android or an iOS user, you’ll be familiar with the Speaktoit’s Assistant for sure. It’s a third-party assistant like Apple’s Siri and Google Now and does an excellent job.

It’s a really nice alternative (sometimes even better) than the default voice assistants and I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that the app is now available on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 as well. Read more »

Microsoft Surface Pro’s 64GB version will come with 23GB of available memory out of the box

For those of you who are getting ready to shell out $899 for a Microsoft Surface Pro on February 9, there’s a rather unpleasant surprise waiting for you. It turns out that the 64GB version of Microsoft’s über tablet will come with only 23GB of available memory out of the box.

The 128GB version of the slate will come with 83GB of available storage. All in all, it looks like the Windows 8 OS, together with the built-in apps and recovery partition take up a cool 40+ gigs of the tablet’s built-in memory. Read more »

The Microsoft Office 2013 and Office 365 are finally on sale. The Office 365 Home Premium is currently available for $99.99 a year as expected. For that kind of cash you get to install the software on up to five PC’s or Macs.

Nokia updates its maps – supports more countries and roads

Nokia has updated the map data, which is used on its navigation apps – such as Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive for Windows Phone, as well as the here.com web service.

Microsoft reports final quarter of 2012 results: Windows sales up, but income is down

Microsoft had an interesting final quarter for 2012 – the three months period that saw the launches of both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. As a result, the company is reporting record revenues but also a slight decline in operating income.

Sales of Windows saw a 24% increase from the year ago quarter, but the Windows 8 launch is behind the Windows 7 launch, which boosted sales by 76%. Even Vista brought a 65% jump in sales, though in terms of monetary value the Windows 8 launch brought in more cash (Vista replaced 5 year old XP, while Windows 7 is still relatively recent).
