We made ourselves comfortable yesterday on the balcony of a hotel overlooking the crowds, the Thames and Millbank Tower in London to watch Nokia’s Lumia Live event, featuring famed DJ Deadmau5.
Nokia certainly did promote the Lumia 800 in style last night and it’s purely a case now of seeing whether its sales figures reflect the hype. Deadmau5 played an excellent set and despite his rise to international DJ fame, he remains very humble when he’s away from the DJ booth. Read more »
We’ve just witnessed the first taste of DJ Deadmau5 kicking off what should be an absolute spectacle as a visual extravaganza is set to take place on the south side of Millbank Tower, London for Nokia’s Lumia Live event.
As you’ll see from the photos, the crowds are already five rows thick lining the edge of the river and mysterious projections have already started to appear on the side of the adjacent tower. Read more »
A Windows Phone flagship from Korea is on our hands. The Samsung Focus S for AT&T Wireless is closely related to the original Galaxy S II – the two top dogs share design and quite a few internal parts.
Proud owners of a new Nokia N9 are probably more than happy with its unique, quirky and individual OS MeeGo, but for some, that just isn’t enough.
This unusual looking lime green N9 has been demoed on video showcasing its ability to switch between not just one, but seven different mobile operating systems. Of course it’s not some special edition or in house unit leaked from the Finns but in fact a peculiar shanzhai/’Nok-off’ straight from the back streets of China. Read more »

Ever since the Nokia Lumia 800 went on sale, there were sporadic reports that the smartphone battery life is less than stellar. Nokia obviously did some investigation on the matter and they found that the poor battery life wasn’t caused by software glitches, but rather by the user behavior.
So the Finns will be releasing a couple of updates over the next couple of months, which should improve the battery performance as a whole. The first update will come in December and will focus on the power efficiency of the device, while the second will come in January 2012 and will tweak the charging of the 1450 mAh battery. So far we’ve put five smartphones through our new battery test, but the HTC Radar is the first to fight under the WP flag. The Mango-running smartphone will give us the first indication on how the Microsoft platform fares against its competitors in terms of power efficiency.
The HTC Radar comes with a 1520 mAh battery and a 3.8″ LCD screen, so it had a reasonable fighting chance. In fact it is one of the most favorable battery-to-screen-estate ratios we’ve seen so far in our test. Read more »
If you just bought a Nokia Lumia 800, you might want to check this one out. The Finnish company released a series of photos depicting the different stages of the making of the smartphone.
The photo story isn’t focusing so much on the process of adding the different bits and pieces together to create a smartphone, but more on what happens next. There are some cool photos of white glove-wearing Nokia employees who put the assembled Lumia 800 through a few tests to make sure everything’s working fine. Read more »
“Exclusive” is really a word that the XDA community really can’t stand. That’s why it’s no surprise that the Nokia-developed Maps application that was supposed to bring extra value to the WP smartphones of the Finns is already freed and made available to anyone with an unlocked (as in dev-unlocked not as in SIM-free) WP device.
Some helpful members of the hacking community got their hands on the Nokia Maps XAP file and they were kind enough to share it with everyone. The XAP file is all that you need to install Nokia Maps on your non-Nokia WP smartphone, so the app exclusivity seal is really broken. Read more »
