Unreleased HTC 8X promo video confirms its support for 4G LTE

In its latest official, albeit unreleased, promo video, HTC has confirmed that its Windows Phone 8X smartphone will indeed boast 4G LTE connectivity.

As great as this may be, it’s not all that surprising, as the device sports the Snapdragon S4 chipset, which has built in 4G radio and is expected to hit AT&T and Verizon. Read more »

Apple iPhone 5 display compared to Nokia Lumia 920, has its “Most advanced” title snatched

Back at the Apple iPhone 5 announcement event, Phil Schiller claimed that the new iOS flagship has the world’s most advanced display yet. It appears, however, that this might not be entirely true, as one Nokia fan is keen to point out. He did a spec-by-spec comparison of the iPhone 5 and the Lumia 920 and the latest Apple smartphone didn’t really manage to impress there.

Nokia takes a jab at the competition, claims to have the best location services in the business

Hot on the heels of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 launch, Nokia has also taken the fight to the competition in the location based services field. The Finnish company has released a table, comparing its own Maps application to the likes of Google Maps and Apple’s own brand new Maps service.

WP8 concept smartphone looks super cool, does a funny thing to the Windows button

Design is the one of the areas where we feel WP smartphones do pretty well. The Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 were considered by many (us included) as two of the best-looking handsets the industry has seen and virtually all of the recently announced WP8 handsets look equally as impressive.

Yet when we saw the latest concept design posted on Yanko Design, we just fell in love with it. Inspired by the Windows Phone UI, the colorful handset is not only a great looker, but also really different from anything we have seen so far. Read more »

Microsoft’s Ben Rudolf goes hands-on with the new HTC 8X and 8S

Microsoft evangelist Ben Rudolf took to the Windows Phone Blog to talk about the new HTC 8X and 8S that were announced yesterday.

Ben talks about the slim shape and the curved glass body of the two devices and how they manage to fit perfectly in your hands. He also makes a note of the ridiculously vibrant colors that the two phones come in. Nokia Lumia 920 image sensor pictured, sized up against the 808 PureView

A reporter of Hungarian tech site MobilPort was able to obtain a Nokia Lumia 920 camera module while over at the Carl Zeiss booth at Photokina 2012.

It turns out that there were some other interesting pieces of imaging tech and able at the booth and we got some photos of the Lumia 920 camera next to the monstrous sensor inside the Nokia 808 PureView and theN93 one. Read more »

Essential call-enabling update for Viber gets stuck in the Windows Phone Marketplace

Ever since the popular messaging and voice calling app Viber hit Windows Phone devices, it only supports messaging. Happily, the Viber team has worked closely with Nokia to iron the issues out and add voice calls as well.

However, there’s a problem. Today, Viber posted a Facebook status explaining why the app update hasn’t been pushed – it’s been delayed by the Microsoft publishing process for the Windows Marketplace. Read more »

Microsoft gives away Surface RT tablets, Windows Phone 8 devices and Windows PCs to employees

Microsoft just decided to go Santa Claus on all its full-time employees. At the annual Microsoft employee event, CEO Steve Ballmer announced that each of the 90,000 or so full-time employees will be getting a host of freebies, including a Surface RT tablet, Windows Phone 8 device and a Windows PC.

This is not the first time Microsoft decided to lavishly appraise its employees. The last time they did this was when Windows Phone 7 was announced and each employee received a free device. Read more »

Microsoft has officially scrapped the Windows Phone Marketplace, folks. The new go-to place for the software giant’s mobile OS applications will be called Windows Phone Store from now on.

Apple just announced its latest flagship smartphone and everyone is already wondering how it will fare against its high-profile competitors. Screens compared: iPhone 5 sized up against the competition

So, the new iPhone 5 is official and is the first iPhone to break away from the 3.5″ screen size and the 3:2 aspect ratio. As expected, the new Apple smartphone has a 4″ screen with a 16:9 aspect. Where does that put it in terms of size?

Lets break out the old calculator and see how much more screen real estate you’re getting. The new screen bigger than the older models, but not by as much as the diagonal difference suggests, due to the change in the aspect ratio. The resolution has also been bumped up to accommodate the new screen, so the pixel density remains unchanged. Read more »
