As its name clearly suggests, the HTC Titan II is the rather quick sequel of the original Titan, whose sales began back in October. The AT&T exclusive newcomer has added LTE network connectivity, and a massive 16MP camera sensor to the spec sheet of its predecessor, with the rest of it left unchanged.

Well, people, it looks like that massive marketing budget, backing the AT&T exclusive Nokia Lumia 900 is starting to pay some serious dividends. No other but Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak might have picked one up, according to his own tweet from earlier today.

While this is not the first time Steve has had a chance to sample the competition (he got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus as a gift when he visited Google’s HQ a few months back), I can’t recall any reports of him actually waiting for a store to open for anything other than an Apple product. Read more »

The materials for Nokia’s flagship and blockbuster Lumia 900 cost $209, according to iSuppli’s preliminary teardown assessment.

That, iSuppli reckons, is a result of the Lumia 900′s cost-reduced design and the close cooperation between Microsoft, Qualcomm and Nokia, which mimics Apple’s approach to device development. Read more »

Microsoft’s controversial Smoked by Windows Phone challenge has now been extended till April 12. If you want to pit your smartphone against a Windows Phone, all you need to do is hop down to the nearest Microsoft store and if you win, you will get a $1,000 special edition Hunger Games laptop and a $1,000 gift card.

The Smoked by Windows Phone challenge recently came under fire after a Microsoft store denied a blogger his prize even after he won the competition fair and square. Eventually Microsoft stepped in and righted the wrong, giving the guy his laptop as well as a free Windows Phone, but the damage was done and a few things about the competition came to light, such as the way the Windows phones used in the test are already set to gain an advantage in that particular test and by profiling the competing handset and then avoiding tests in which the Windows Phone might end up on the losing side. Microsoft just announced that it has updated the Windows Phone SDK. As the latest version of Windows Phone, 7.5 Refresh, gets ready for public release, the new version adds support for those lower-spec’d smartphones with just 256MB of RAM.

The WPSDK 7.1 is also said to be the version that developers should use if they have Windows 8-running machines. Other than extended compatibility, the new SDK doesn’t really add anything. Read more »

You may have heard about the Smoked by Windows Phone competition by now. In these events, a Windows Phone device is pitted against any other smartphone and both are made to do a simple task, with the winner being the one who completes it first. The task is usually something as simple as taking a picture and uploading it to Facebook or finding directions to a place. But as it turns out, this challenge is not as fair as Microsoft makes it out to be, as Sahas Katta of Skatter Tech found out the hard way.

Katta was in a Microsoft store where he wanted to take part in the competition. He was armed with his new Galaxy Nexus. The challenge given to him was to bring up the weather of two different cities as quickly as possible. Read more »

If you like being a guinea pig and you’re a fan of Nokia, there’s every chance you’ve already signed up to Nokia’s Beta Labs and the latest app to enter this unique testing area is Nokia Play To, which is hoping to make it as the native DLNA client that’ll grace the Lumia Windows Phone family.

The Play To app already offers the ability to throw pictures, movies and music onto various connected devices around the home, with plans for Media Server support in the near future adding Xbox 360 and PS3 friendly functionality in due time. Read more »

Remember when we told you that Tango, the latest update to Windows Phone 7, supports up to eight running applications in the background? Well, this turns out not to be true, as HTC HD2 developer HD2Owner over at XDA Developers proves.

The HTC HD2 is probably the most versatile smartphone out there. Why? Well, not only there’s an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich port and a Windows Phone 7 ROM available, but the HD2 can even dual boot them. And if that wasn’t enough, you can add Ubuntu to the boot equation.

The Nokia Lumia 800 has one of the most solid cameras in the Windows Phone realm (or at least until the HTC Titan II comes out). However, this doesn’t mean Nokia is done improving it or has already moved on – in fact, the company just confirmed that there’s a cool new feature coming up for it.

The news came from the personal Twitter account of Damian Dinning – the head of the Nokia camera division. Apparently, the native panorama app is already on its way and we can probably count on it coming with the next software update. Read more »

The default Bing search on Windows Phone has always been awful (at least in my experience) but there was some respite in the form of the Google Search app. However, compared to the Search app on Android, the Windows Phone app was noticeably bare bones.

Now, however, Google has updated the Search app for Windows Phone 7.5 devices, which brings some much needed features. Read more »

Nokia revamped their mapping apps for their Windows Phone handsets and added one more app to the list of Lumia-exclusive apps. Nokia Drive has gained full offline functionality and is joined by the new app, Nokia Transport, so you can navigate a city with public transport instead of a car.

Nokia Drive for Windows Phone had one big problem at launch – it couldn’t plot a route in offline mode (even if you have downloaded the map for the region). The latest update fixes that and adds other improvements. Read more »
