Google is rolling out a new feature to its Google Play store dubbed People. You know how you see your friends’ +1s on certain apps in the Play Store? Well now those apps have their separate own tab.

The People tab utilizes Google+’s recommendations in the Play Store in its mobile form and has its very own certain style – shown above. On the web Google Play store you can see the same reviews and ratings by your friends with the “From Familiar Faces” option. As expected, Amazon took the wraps off its own set-top box today. Dubbed Amazon Fire TV, the $99 gadget will compete with the likes of Apple TV, Google Chromecast, and Roku 3 in today’s competitive marketplace.

Google has added an option to check your profile and content views on its Google+ social network. The counter sits just under your profile picture, next to the follower count and accumulates the hits to your profile, pictures, posts, etc.

The feature has automatically rolled out to users and is on by default but can be turned off by unckecking the “show how many times your profile and content have been viewed.” field if you’re not completely sure about sharing the information. Read more »

Dropbox has done a lot of work to keep its service safe from copyrighted material, and subsequently having to deal with the authorities. One of the ways Dropbox has to avoid trouble is by automatically scanning the files you’re sharing for copyright infringement.

This little known feature of Dropbox has been brought to light on Twitter when one of Dropbox’s users got a DMCA takedown notice in one of his personal folders. Read more »

If there ever was a time to go for the $12 a year premium membership for LastPass it’s now. The form and password-filling service that’s so popular for web browsers has gotten a great new update for Android, allowing it to auto-fill your account log-ins on Android.

This means that aside from working to log you in hassle free in Chrome on Android LastPass will eradicate the need to remember app log-ins as well. Read more »

Apple is considering new ways to takes its iTunes music collection to users, and also to some new users. According to the sources at Billboard, Apple is considering releasing a on-demand music streaming service that will compete with Spotify and the new Beats Music service. Apple is currently in talks with senior label executives regarding this move.

More intriguingly perhaps, is Apple’s decision to take the iTunes store to Android. The same sources have also revealed that Apple is considering releasing an iTunes app on Android, that will allow existing and new iTunes users to access Apple’s vast library of music. Read more »

About a year ago, Twitter announced their #music service that allowed users to stream music from the dedicated #music iOS app and follow your favorite artists on Twitter.

After a lukewarm response from users and prolonged lack of development on the app side, Twitter finally announced that they are killing the service. The app has been pulled from the App Store and those who downloaded it will be able to use it till April 18, which is when the service completes its first and final year. Read more »

Samsung is teasing a website-slash-service, which will launch as design.samsung.com. The video teaser shows a lot of Samsung design ques like the nature inspired Galaxy S3 body, which we’re seeing molded from liquid polycarbonate.

The website will launch on March 27 and will have Samsung-inspired design sections by the looks of the video. “Make it meaningful” looks to be the title of the project. Read more »

It seems Google will soon be adding it’s excellent voice dictation feature to Google Drive. This will let you dictate, say, notes without having to type them in manually.

The voice dictation feature has been present in Android for quite a while now but there was no way to use it on the desktop version of Google Drive née Docs. This will put a handy voice button on the Drive menu and speak your text out loud. And Google’s voice recognition feature is virtually flawless so I can tell this is going to work out very well. So long @facebook.com – with its latest update Facebook is shutting down its email service after more than three years.

The service never truly took off the ground and Facebook didn’t update it that much, seemingly favoring its Messenger service. Now Facebook Mail users are getting a notification letting them know that the service is shutting down and will be forwarding their emails to the primary provided email address on their accounts. WhatsApp has released a new update (v2.11.169) for Android that brings with it some new privacy options. You can now choose who can see your ‘Last seen’, profile photo and status message. You can let everyone see it, only your contacts see it or set it so no one can see it.

The iOS version of WhatsApp has had the ability to hide the Last seen status since forever but it’s only now that the Android version received it. But along with it, it also got the ability to hide the profile photo and status message, that iOS version does not yet have. Read more »

eBay is already a one-stop shop for many internet users out there, but the company is still working hard to enhance the shopping experience it provides. The online retailer has acquired startup company PhiSix, who specializes in creating virtual changing rooms.

There, you’ll be able to try on all the clothes you like without leaving your computer. PhiSix’s work enables patterns and pictures of clothes to turn into 3D models. All you then need is to create your avatar and give it your basic measurements. Read more »

After opening up a beta for its Max data-saving app at the end of last year for US Android users, Opera is now broadening the reach of the app with a pre-registration for its upcoming beta for users in Western Europe as well.

Google acquired today Israeli startup company SlickLogin. Five months ago, the company made its debut on the internet password security scene offering an interesting alternative – sound-based passwords.

The announcement of the acquisition sits on the company’s homepage, where the small team says that now they’ll be making the Internet safer for everyone. Presumably, Google has decided to replace its 2-step verification with a better authentication method. Read more »
