Android 4.2.2 update brings notification toggles, new sounds

Google started rolling out the Android 4.2.2 update for some of the Nexus devices a couple of days ago. Although there was no official list of improvements released for the new version, we are now seeing reports from people who managed to get the update on their device.

Android Police has made a short list of new changes that were made in this version of Jelly Bean. The major one seems to be the ability to use the notification screen shortcuts as actual toggles, something that was not possible before (it would take you to the particular option in the Settings app). Evasi0n’s jailbreak tool hacked 7 million iOS devices in four days

It looks like the recently launched iOS 6.1 jailbreak tool evasi0n has been doing quite well, people! Cydia’s creator Jay Freeman told Forbes that the tool has been used to hack 7 million iOS devices since its release a few days ago.

The abovementioned number includes 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads, and 400,000 iPod Touchs – quite an impressive number given the fact that evasi0n has been out for only four days now. Read more »

Skype 4.5 makes its way to the iPhone and iPad

Skype has updated its iPhone and iPad app to version 4.5 bringing some needed new features as well as the usual bag of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Now whenever a call is dropped, Skype’s automatic call recovery will kick in and redial the contact for you. The order in which instant message conversation appears is now correct, too. Read more »

Twitter updates Android and iOS apps, brings search and UI changes

Twitter has released updated versions of their mobile apps, with the Android version getting the bulk of the changes. Among the list of improvements common to both iOS and Android versions is a new Discover view, which shows a single stream of tweets, trends, activity and accounts to follow.

The search has also been update and now presents you with accounts, tweets and pictures relevant to your query. The Connect tab has been updated to show only Interactions view now but you can switch it to show only mentions from the Settings menu. Read more »

One of the team members, David Wang, a.k.a. @planetbeing, who was one of the two people who were personally responsible for finding the exploit in Apple’s code, sat down for an interview with fellow tech journalists and explained the whole process.

The evasi0n jailbreak was launched only 2 days ago. More than 1.7 million iOS devices were jailbroken in the first 24 hours, according to Cydia’s download stats. What’s more – the half of that number was reached in mere six hours of the release of the jailbreak tool. Read more »

Carbon for Twitter finally released on the Play Store

Twitter users on Android have been waiting for this day for a long time now but it’s finally here. After being teased for almost a year, the developers of Carbon have finally released the Twitter client on the Play Store.

The app was shown off on Twitter last year and then an early alpha was released for a few users. After that the app was delayed indefinitely because the developers could not release it as a paid app on Play Store as it wasn’t supported in their region. After that it was announced that the app would be released as a free app but even that got postponed indefinitely. Read more »

Epic Games releases Epic Citadel for Android with built-in benchmarking tool

Almost three years after the launch of Epic Citadel for iOS, Epic Games has finally released the Android version of the app on the Google Play Store.

For those who are not aware, Epic Citadel is based on the Unreal Engine 3, and back when it was released on iOS, served as a way to highlight the capabilities of the engine on the mobile platform (it was later put into use in Infinity Blade). On the Android version, however, Epic Games has built-in a benchmarking utility, which helps gauge the performance of the hardware as well. Read more »

Temple Run 2 is the fastest growing mobile game after reaching 50 million downloads in 13 days

Angry Birds Space just got stripped from its fastest growing mobile game laurels. Imangi Studios’ Temple Run 2 snagged the title away from Rovio by hitting 50 million downloads in 13 days – a cool 22 days quicker than what it took Angry Birds Space.

The popular Speaktoit Assistant is now available on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8

If you are an Android or an iOS user, you’ll be familiar with the Speaktoit’s Assistant for sure. It’s a third-party assistant like Apple’s Siri and Google Now and does an excellent job.

It’s a really nice alternative (sometimes even better) than the default voice assistants and I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that the app is now available on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 as well. Read more »

RIM slashes minimum app price in BlackBerry World, tries to attract more developers ahead of BB 10 launch

The minimum app price in the BlackBerry World store has been slashed from £1.00 to £0.75 in UK and from €0.99 to €0.89 in the rest of Europe.

Speaktoit Assistant, or just Assistant, is one of the most popular virtual personal assistants for Android out there and today it has received a major update full of cool new features.

The app’s briefing mode can now not only read the latest news to you, but also tell you which of your Facebook friends have a birthday today. You can also assign your friends different nicknames, so you are not tied up on always saying their full names when you need to contact them.
