There’s little doubt that Nokia N8 is a pretty great photography tool, but one feature it notably lacks out of the box is Panorama shots. Luckily the Finns are going to add that with a separate app that should hit the Ovi store soon.

The HTC Legend was one of the prettiest handsets out there even before but now it closes on perfection. HTC has just announced a new “Phantom Black” color option for the Android-running device and the official shot really makes me drool.

The aluminium unibody is as sleek as always but now the back is in unison with the plastic patches on top and on the bottom. Read more »

The Ovi Store was suffering a bit of a crisis at the beginning of the year with its downloads standing still in a moment when all the competitors were taking huge leaps forward. But apparently Nokia managed to put its app distribution service back on the right track as the store is now welcoming 200 000 new members each day.

Other encouraging numbers are the 2.3 million downloads per day and the 70 developers who have already passed the 1 million mark. Read more »

LG seems more focused on Windows Phone 7 than Android recently but it doesn’t mean they have forgotten about their Google OS devices. In fact they just released the official Android 2.1 update for what seems to be their most successful handset this year, the LG GT540 Optimus.

It’s only available for the handset in the Baltic region at this stage so the rest of the world will have to wait a while longer. Or they could take matters in their own hands and use a third party tool to flash their handsets with that Baltic ROM. Read more »

Android comes with a great default browser and many people will be happy to use it. But more tech savvy users might be interested what third party browsers have to offer. RIM might be having a bit of hard time adapting their smartphones to the rapidly changing market but it might turn out that it’s all because they have been focusing their efforts elsewhere. The company just entered the tablet market with a bang, announcing their 7-inch BlackBerry PlayBook, running a new BlackBerry Tablet OS.

Coming with a SVGA (1024 x 600 pixels) multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, the PlayBook is the first tablet to sport a dual-core 1GHz CPU. And it makes quite good use of it too – both the front-facing and the primary camera of the device are capable of recording full HD video (yeap, that’s sweet 1080p footage) and on board the PlayBook has what RIM calls “true multitasking”. And with 1GB of RAM you are unlikely to have “out of memory” issues either. Read more »

The good news first – HTC’s CEO Peter Chou confirmed there will be Sense UI into the company’s upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices, it just won’t be the way we are used to. Here is his full statement:

“I don’t think we would do complete Sense UI on Windows Phone 7. However, I will say that we will innovate differently to improve the experience and to get some HTC unique and differentiated experience on Windows Phone 7 in the future.”

Aldo Liguori from Sony Ericsson UK spoke to BusinessWeek and said that the company has no plans of creating any more Symbian-based devices.

It does not sound conclusive, but it seems Nokia is alone for now. Let’s hope Symbian^3 and its successors will have the power to draw back some of its fans.

Long story short. Facebook is building something secretly from its employees and only the high-level management is familiar with the project. The secret project is about software development and Joe Hewitt and Matthew Papakipos are working on it. Hewitt previously created the Facebook iPhone app and the Facebook iPhone website plus the popular Firefox extension Firebug. He’s also worked in Netscape during the creation of Firefox. Papakipos on the other side is a former member of the Chrome OS team (HTML5 was his specialty) plus he’s been involved in some hardware projects.
