BlackBerry’s Product Manager Michael Clewley has confirmed some of the features coming with the BlackBerry 10.2 update.

Google has updated the Google Drive app for Android with some sweet new features. First of all, there is a new UI for the app, with a convenient drawer on the side for some of the menus. The app also lets you set a thumbnail view for the documents instead of a simple list view.

One of the major additions in this update is the ability to scan receipts, letters and documents with the camera and then save them as PDF files on Google Drive. The app then OCRs these documents and lets you search for the text within the PDFs. You can now also download documents for offline viewing on your device. Read more »

Google recently updated the desktop version of its Google+ social network and the accompanying Android app. Those who check Google+ through the browser on their smartphone can now enjoy the new design too.

The new Google+ mobile page uses the search giant’s new favorite UI element – the card. Now all posts in your stream are displayed as cards and they feature easy to use +1 and Share buttons. Read more »

Back in March, Opera released a brand new version of the Opera browser for Android. Unlike the previous version that ran on the Presto engine, the new version was running on the more ubiquitous WebKit engine and also brought with it several new features and a new UI.

Flickr has gone through a major redesign that completely changes the look of the homepage and your photostream. Your homepage now has large photos from your friends as well as from other Flickr users that you can like and share without even having to open the image.

Your photostream also has received a major upgrade. You now have a large cover image up top and your photos span the entire width of the screen in a tiled pattern. Open an image and it takes up a major portion of the screen and the image information is placed below while giving more prominence to the image, the way it should be. Hot off the Google I/O 2013 announcements, the search giant has implemented Google Now reminders feature from Knowledge Graph search results.

From now on whenever you’re signed in with your Google account and make a search that returns a Knowledge Graph entry containing a future date, you’ll get a “Remind me” button. Read more »

Sony is readying the Xperia Tablet Z for global launch in a few days, but the guys behind the CyanogenMod are already ready with a Release Candidate of CM 10.1 for the slate.

Google uncovered the redesigned Maps service featuring a slew of new features and capabilities at its Google I/O keynote yesterday. Alas, you will only have to wait until the summer to experience the new Maps in its full glory. Despite that, Google has set up a page for you to request an invite to experience the beta version of the service.

The new service sports a new user interface that’s centers only on the map itself. The map imagery itself is also slightly touched and is now completely vector-based. The search giant boasts the new Maps to be ‘tailored-made’ for you that gets better and more personal the more you use it. Read more »

A few days ago we reported on the release of the brand new YouTube app for Windows Phone 8. Unlike the previous ‘app’ that was basically a link to the YouTube mobile site, the new app developed by Microsoft was a proper client that let you watch videos within the app itself.

It seems, however, Google isn’t particularly fond of this app and has asked Microsoft to take it down. The point of contention is the lack of ads in the app, which Microsoft has disabled. As you may know, Google earns its revenue from ads, as do some of the content creators who earn revenue from the YouTube videos through AdSense. Read more »

Leaks of the redesigned Maps spoiled the Google’s surprise, which was supposed to be the official release of the revamped service at Google I/O. Launching in the summer, the new Google Maps will sport an updated user interface as well as deeper Google+ synchronization

The desktop version of Google Maps got some very cool features from Google Earth such as flyover immersive images, 360-degree viewing and even taking a peek inside buildings. Read more »

Realmac software, the creator of the popular Clear to-do app, has launched a new iPhone photography software called Analog Camera.

The newly built photography app features a simple user interface and comes with a set of filters for post-processing. The application is built on the existing Analog for Mac program, but with a much simpler and smoother UI. Read more »

The Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9500) international version – has received an early nightly build of CyanogenMod 10.1.

The version in question is based on pure Android 4.2 but the ROM, being a nightly, will likely have lots of bugs and may not be suitable for a daily driver. Read more »

CyanogenMod’s official statistics page shows that the custom ROM platform has surpassed the 5 million installs mark.

A new update to popular news-consuming application Flipboard brings about a handful of new features. Magazine curators can now make fuller standalone profiles and readers can easily find what magazines their friends have created thanks to the new Friends category in the Content Guide. But that’s not all.

HTC HD2 has been one of the most developer friendly devices for a long time now. The smartphone was launched with Windows Mobile on board and later, the device was hacked to run everything from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, through Ubuntu to Windows RT.

Now, the developers have ported the recently launched Firefox OS to run on HTC HD2. Unfortunately, the ported OS has a few issues with SIM not being detected, low volume, camera and mass storage for now. Read more »
