CyanogenMod 10.1 officially coming to HTC One

Good news, HTC One users – the official CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2 Jelly Bean based) will soon become available on your smartphones.

The CyanogenMod 10.1 will support the GSM version of the metallic beauty along with the Sprint variant of the device. The ROMs are still in the alpha stage and the Nightly builds will be ready for download very soon. Read more »

Flipboard updates Android app, adds custom magazine feature

Flipboard recently updated their iOS app when the service reached 50 million users. That updated introduced the custom magazine feature, which let you create magazines out of content you find within the app.

Flipboard has now updated their Android app, which finally joins in all the custom magazine creation action. It works the same as it does on iOS; you create a custom magazine with a name of your choice and then when you see an article on Flipboard that you’d want to add to it, you tap on the + button. You can then share these magazines with your friends and also subscribe to those created by others. Read more »

Samsung’s SideSync melds a Windows computer and an Android phone into one

You have to hand it to Samsung – it really, really cares about features. The Samsung Galaxy S4 for one is the most feature-rich phone ever and Samsung just keeps coming up with new features. SideSync allows a computer and a smartphone to work as one.

When you hookup a Galaxy phone to a computer running SideSync, files on the phone will be backed up and then the magic starts to happen. Read more »

Microsoft enables full-res photo and video backups to SkyDrive in all markets

Microsoft has commenced a global rollout of full resolution video and photo uploads to its SkyDrive cloud storage service.

Google allows iOS developers to use Chrome instead of Safari to open links from their apps

After the launch of Google Now for iOS (check out our full review), Google’s charge on Apple’s mobile platform continues with the little, but important piece of code that allows developers to open links from their apps in Chrome instead of Safari.

The new feature is dubbed iOS links and iOS developers can utilize it to open links in Chrome; something that Google has been doing with its YouTube, Maps and Gmail apps for quite a while now. Read more »

Windows Phone YouTube app gets a major update, no longer just a link to the mobile site

If you happened to install the YouTube ‘app’ on your Windows Phone device, you’d have been disappointed to learn that it was nothing more than a link to the mobile version of YouTube and not an actual app, such as the one you’d find on Android or iOS.

Microsoft has now updated the app and now it behaves the way it’s supposed to. First of all the app has been redesigned and now sports a completely redesigned UI. You can now access your videos, playlists and subscriptions from within the app and also pin them to the Start screen as a Live Tile. Read more »

CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly available for Samsung Galaxy S4 for T-Mobile

Lead CyanogenMod developer and creator Steve Kondik has made an important announcement that will make Galaxy S4 owners leap with joy. The custom ROM project is currently available in an experimental, nightly build for the T-Mobile version of the Samsung flagship smartphone.

Kondik also unveiled that CM10.1 is coming for the international GT-i9500 model in the near future. Its development has been postponed for a little while since the team doesn’t have an actual unit to fiddle with. Read more »

Barnes & Noble adds Google Play Store support to NOOK HD and NOOK HD+

Barnes & Noble have announced that they will be adding support for the Google Play Store on their NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ Android tablets. So far these devices have been restricted to downloading content only from Barnes & Noble’s content store but are now open to the entire Google catalog as well.

Along with the 700,000 apps and games, NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ users will also be able to access music, movies, books and magazines from the Play Store. Other than that, Barnes & Noble is also adding the Google Chrome browser and Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube and Google Search. Read more »

Instagram 3.5 update brings photo tagging, minor UI changes

Instagram has released v3.5 of their mobile app for iOS and Android and along with that introduced a new feature to the service. Now, you will be able to tag your friends in your photos and see all the pictures you have been tagged in in your profile.

To tag someone in a photo, click on the ‘Add People’ option after you take a photo. You will them be asked to tap anywhere on the photo you want to tag someone and then type their profile name. You then select the ID and the photo gets tagged. You can not just tag new photos but also existing ones by clicking on the options key in the bottom right of each photo. Read more »

CyanogenMod 10.1 on its way to the Snapdragon Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile only for now)

Steve Kondik, creator and leading developer at the most popular custom ROM project – CyanogenMod – went on Facebook with a very important screenshot. It shows a Samsung Galaxy S4 model SGH-M919 (for T-Mobile) sporting CM 10.1.

The Galaxy S4 in question is the one yielding the Snapdragon 600 chipset and despite being an exclusive (and early) port it could mean all Snapdragon-equipped S4s will eventually get the CyanogenMod treatment. Read more »

Original Angry Birds with updated content now free for a limited time on Windows Phone

The original Angry Birds, the game that made Rovio famous, is now available on the Windows Phone app store. And if that wasn’t good enough, the game is free for a limited time.

Despite being available for Windows Phone 7 for a long time, Rovio failed to include all of the updates that it launched for the game’s iOS and Android counterparts. The new version fixes this and is available for both Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8. Read more »

Google finally delivered its Google Now service to iOS. First there was a leaked video then Erik Schmidt vaguely told people to ask Apple when to expect Google Now on iOS. And yet here we are – using it on iOS already.

Coming from an Android device you’ll immediately recognize Google Now. The design scheme is left unchanged with simplistic UI elements, clean tile-like cards of information, the font, etc. but there is also an unmistakable iOS feel to the app which users might appreciate. Read more »

Refocus is quite an interesting camera app compatible with all Windows Phone 8-running smartphones. It has one major feature – it lets you refocus after you snap a picture.

‘Switch to Windows Phone’ app helps you find your favorite Android apps on Windows Phone

Microsoft has been asking users of other platforms to switch to Windows Phone for a long time now but so far the biggest hurdle has been the lack of a good quality apps on the platform. Or at least that’s what it seems like. Things aren’t that bad in reality, though, and there are Windows Phone versions of several of the popular apps out there right now.
